The Dumpling Paradox - S1-E7

Trivia: Sheldon tells Penny not to sleep with her head close to the door because a headboard is always oriented away from the door; yet in later episodes, we see Sheldon in the exact sleeping spot that he told Penny not to sleep in. At this point I am referring to Pennys' sleep over whilst on Sheldons' couch.

Suggested correction: Sheldon's headboard (and head) is against the wall on the wall opposite his door.

LorgSkyegon

The original poster could be referring to one of the many times we see Sheldon sleeping somewhere else other than his bed. Perhaps an example from the original poster?

Ssiscool

Correct on the couch when she had the sleepover.

The Paintball Scattering - S12-E11

Other mistake: When Penny and Leonard are in the paintball shack, Leonard won't shoot Penny because they are too close and it would hurt. Penny doesn't believe him, but eventually, he shoots her in the chest, and she says in pain, "You're right, we're way too close." But Penny should already know what this feels like; she was shot in the chest from close range in a paintball shack by Sheldon in one of the earlier seasons when she shot his cushion with a paintball. So this feeling shouldn't surprise Penny in S12.

Suggested correction: There are 10 years between the 2 episodes. It is easy to assume that over a decade someone can forget how something felt.

The Agreement Dissection - S4-E21

Corrected entry: Amy has a monkey in her apartment smoking a cigarette for a study. At one point, he asks for another cigarette. Amy gives him one and walks away without lighting it, but a few seconds later, he's puffing smoke.

MovieFan612

Correction: Watch closely, while she's talking to Sheldon, you see her lean and light the cigarette. There is also an occasion where she gives the monkey a cigarette but comments on not lighting it.

Ssiscool

Correction: However, Penny's father might not know that. Also, it could be a case that since he works as a theoretical physicist that he may have to work weekends, like when he worked nights.

Suggested correction: Couple of points here, 1. Raj talking in front of Penny is already listed. 2. Raj doesn't pick the plates up until Penny has left after the Halo game. 3. He then stays in the kitchen area while we see Penny come back and settle down to go to sleep and Leonard and Sheldon go to bed and turn the lights out. Raj then creeps out the apartment and scares Penny.

Suggested correction: If he was acting normally (for Sheldon), he wouldn't. However, Sheldon isn't acting as he normally would due to lack of sleep, and his obsession with solving a problem.

Andy Benham

The severity of his phobia would not be minimized by lack of sleep.

MovieFan612

Sheldon's mind is distracted by the problem he is trying to solve. He grabs other people's food, he allows Raj to touch his food, he handles dirty cutlery at the cheesecake factory, All characteristics that would be present if he was acting normally. The fact that he is in the ball pit is simply an extension.

Ssiscool

Severe sleep deprivation could certainly affect how Sheldon reacts to phobias. The brain requires sleep to function and with a severe lack of sleep, the brain is no longer able to send the signals that alert Sheldon to his fear of germs.

Suggested correction: Lying to Penny but not to his sister, not inconsistent with the characters and his relationships.

LordKelvin

There's been several episodes showing Sheldon is not a good liar.

Bishop73

Yes and no. If you consider S1 E7 I think it is where he creates a very elaborate situation to avoid telling Penny she's a terrible singer. That takes a good amount skill to establish all that. But as you say, there are episodes where he can't.

Suggested correction: Sheldon doesn't develop this trait until S2 E18.

Ssiscool

That I beleive is the first episode with the triple knock.

Ssiscool

First time he knocks 3 times is in Episode 2 of Season 1. First time knocking 3 times followed by saying the name is episode 10 of Season 1. The ritual of 3 knocks and 3 times saying the name and then stopping is Episode 5 of season 2.

lionhead

My mistake. It's been several years since I've seen the early seasons. I was going off memory.

Ssiscool

Sheldon knocks three times because he once walked into his parents bedroom and saw his father with another woman. He's been doing the triple knock since he was a teenager.

MovieFan612

Yet, he didn't in the show till Season 2. Funny ain't it?

lionhead

Suggested correction: A one-time lapse in someone's usual behavior does not count as a "character mistake", even in the case of someone given to ritualistic behavior as Sheldon is.

zendaddy621

Ah, but in an episode he explains he had developed this particular ritual at age 13 after walking into his parent's bedroom without knocking and seeing his father having sex with another woman. He says he started knocking 3 times since then and would never forget. So its not consistent and a mistake as this is not the only example one can name.

Show generally

Continuity mistake: In the early episodes, Leonard is depressed and buys cat stuff. He comments that he has taken in to account Sheldon's asthma with a hyper allergenic cat. Later in the series it is Leonard with asthma and Sheldon who gets all the cats.

Suggested correction: Presumably Sheldon also buys non-allergenic cats.

And Sheldon is shown to have no courtesy or thought for other people.

Correction: Technically, when you use a network for the first time, there are many steps involved like creating a VPN, matching IP addresses, etc, hence the delay. Once you have connected and used it at least once, the go-betweens don't exist, hence there is no delay.

The delay wouldn't be that long.

Suggested correction: He's awoken by a door closing, not necessarily the front door. He could have heard Sheldon closing his door.

Bishop73

While that is possible, it is unlikely as it's clear Sheldon has already made a dent in the cleaning of Penny's apartment. Plus Sheldon would have simply replied to Leonard when he called out.

Continuity mistake: In the beginning of the series Sheldon knocks on Penny's door only once. Later in the series Sheldon explains he has always knocked 3 times because he walked in on his father with another woman.

Suggested correction: Sheldon goes through phases of his mannerisms. This is pointed out a few times across the show.

Ssiscool

Correction: He also may have gotten the idea for doing magic to get girls to his room, but actually started doing it to cheer up his mother.

LorgSkyegon

Correction: And Wolowitz is known to exaggerate the truth.

Ssiscool

Correction: When bringing her to lunch with the other guys, Sheldon specifically says "You may remember Dr. Nowitski" and they reply. They obviously do remember meeting her.

LorgSkyegon

Correction: As the other correction states he introduces her by saying you may remember. Sheldon is also very literal and skeptical of Penny's memory, having had to explain most things for a decade.

Ssiscool

Correction: Raj is whispering to the other two so Penny doesn't hear him.

MasterOfAll

He's not whispering and when he does whisper in front of Penny he covers his mouth.

The Rhinitis Revelation - S5-E6

Other mistake: When Mary is rubbing VapoRub on Sheldon's chest, she makes a comment that last time she saw that there was no hair, to which Sheldon replies "Yeah it filled in last year." In Season 1, Episode 11, Penny rubs VapoRub on Sheldon's chest and a very clear remark about chest hair was made. Season 1 for the show was 4 years ago.

Ashish_Agrawal

Suggested correction: Sheldon is probably joking when he tells Mary his chest hair filled in the previous year.

Sheldon doesn't make jokes.

Ssiscool

He doesn't understand sarcasm, hence, doesn't know when to be sarcastic.

ckbyers

If Sheldon didn't make jokes, the term "Bazinga" would have never came into play. Ever.

ckbyers

And nearly all instances of Bazinga are not used in a funny circumstance. Indicating poor judgement and lack of knowledge regarding jokes.

Ssiscool

They were funny to him. And to the audience.

lionhead

Google "how many times has Sheldon said "Bazinga" " - and it'll explain that he does, indeed - joke.

The Bad Fish Paradigm - S2-E1

Corrected entry: When Sheldon mentions to Leonard, Raj, and Howard that he is moving out, Raj asks Leonard "Did you pronounce the 't' in often?" This statement in context implies that it makes Sheldon angry when someone pronounces the 't' in often. However, Leonard and other characters do this multiple times throughout the series with Sheldon never commenting on it.

Ashish_Agrawal

Correction: Sheldon is also very particular about things in certain episodes. It's not out of character for certain ticks to disappear and reappear throughout.

Ssiscool

Correction: This is due to the multiple camera angles used in the scene. The straw doesn't change angle.
