The Ninth Gate

A sleazy book dealer Dean Corso (Depp) is hired by the obscure obsessive Boris Balkan to find the only other two copies of his rare book in existence. The book is called 'The Nine Gates of the Kingdom of Shadows', and Balkan wants to authenticate his copy of this 17th century occult work, said to have been written by the devil himself, but complications, both natural and supernatural, arise at every turn.

Continuity mistake: As Corso leaves Quinta Fargas, he barely dodges a speeding car aiming to ram him. Clasping his canvas bag tightly, never dropping it, he presses his back against a large tree. As the camera cuts to a close-up, the bag is suddenly a yard away from him, on the ground.

Question: Would the gas station still be called Shell and not the French word? Also, do they drive on the same side of car and street in France?

Answer: Shell is a Dutch petroleum company that may be better known in Europe than in America - its logo is the same worldwide. French cars have the steering wheel on the left, and you drive on the right in France.
