Continuity mistake: When the Cullens are in the kitchen making Italiano for Bella, Rosalie is holding a crystal bowl that Emmett has filled with salad. But when Edward tells them Bella has already eaten, just before Rosalie shatters the bowl, the bowl is half empty, and only a few lettuce pieces fall to the floor amongst the crystal shards. Continuity mistake: When Bella is telling Charlie that she is going out with Edward and he is at the house to meet him, her ponytail keeps changing position from hanging down her neck to behind her shoulder. (01:14:20)
Continuity mistake: Just before the Cullens begin to play baseball you see Edward running away and beginning to turn around to look back at Rosalie while he is running. But in the next shot you see him walk with his back turned to "us" and then turning around to look at Rosalie. (01:16:10)
Continuity mistake: At the baseball game you see Carlisle standing in the background with a bat when Rosalie is "up for the turn." When Bella calls her "out," he doesn't have the bat, and then he has it in his hand again. (01:16:10 - 01:17:00)
Answer: Edward is able to read anyone's mind "except" for Bella's. He cannot understand why and that confuses and frustrates him. It is learned later that Bella has an unknown ability to block any mental intrusion. That is why Aro could not see Bella's memories and why Jane was unable to mentally inflict pain on her in "Twilight: New Moon."
