Question: When Edward and Bella were by the lockers at school, how come Edward couldn't read Bella?
Answer: Edward can't read Bellas mind because of an invisible barrier that protects her from mind effects. After she became a vampire, she was actually able to transfer the barrier to protect people. However she had to train to control the power.
Question: When they are in the garage, before they split up to throw off James, Edward tells Alice to "Please keep your thoughts to yourself". I've read the book and I'm pretty sure it explains this but I can't remember. What is Alice thinking?
Answer: If Alice tells Bella that she will be a vampire she will be scared and shocked.
Answer: I thought Alice was thinking about how tasty Bella smells because they had to wear her belongings to confuse Victoria and lead her off Bella's actual scent. If not please do reply as I am curious about this.
Question: Near the end of the movie, at the prom, when Bella and Edward first walk in, Bella spots Jessica and signals something to her with her hand going across her chest. What was Bella signalling to Jessica?
Chosen answer: Earlier, when the girls were shopping for prom dresses in Port Angeles, Jessica commented that the low-cut dress she was trying on made her boobs "look good." She is wearing that same dress at the prom, and Bella is gesturing and then giving a "thumbs up" that Jessica's cleavage does look good. Jessica mouths back, "I know."
Question: In the movie Edward, Emmett and Jasper are wearing matching wristbands with a symbol and Rosalie and Alice are wearing the same symbol on necklaces, what is the significance of these items?
Answer: The amulets that are attached to the wrist bands and the necklaces are of the Cullen family crest. http://www.twilightcullencrestjewelry.com/.
Question: When the Cullen family are cooking for Bella, during Rosalie's speech, we can see Esme looking at Bella and Edward, with an increasing smile on her face. Why is she smiling this way?
Question: I wanted to ask that, when James had bitten Bella, then the venom/poison was left in Bella's arm and Edward had to suck it out later, but why didn't Edward leave the venom in Bella's arm? They both (James and Edward) sucked Bella's blood and James left venom, but Edward did not. How is that possible?
Question: Why is it that James, Laurent & Victoria cannot "hear" Bella's heartbeat as they are standing in the field? In all of the books it is made quite clear that the vampires hear Bella's heartbeat whenever she's in close proximity to them. Any ideas?
Answer: Simply put, because it better serves the story. There's no reason they shouldn't be able to hear it. One could argue that the thunderstorm masks it, I suppose, but vampire hearing is implied to be more precise than that or else the babble of noises would constantly drown out fainter sounds like heartbeats. Not to mention hearts beat continuously while the thunder does not rumble constantly. Oversights like this are just to make the story more interesting and to move the plot along.
Answer: In the books, it mentions that Edward is tapping his foot to mask her heartbeat.
Question: At the end of the movie, why doesn't Carlisle drain Bella's body of the venom seeing as human blood doesn't affect him anymore in the way that it does other vampires?
Answer: Because he is controlling the bleeding and doing other medical treatments. Also it is Edward's choice, he won't make that decision for him.
It's never said that Carlisle is no longer affected by desire for human blood - he was just able to restrain himself for the few people who became part of his family... Edward talks about how incredibly difficult that was for Carlisle to stop then, and (likely) still would be going forward. In the case of Bella, Carlisle asked Edward to do it because Bella's future was up to Edward's choice.
Question: At the end of the movie, when Bella and Edward walk into the prom building, the camera shows a shot of Victoria. She has her back turned, but the camera is on her long enough that there is no doubt it's her. Edward would know she is there because he can smell other vampires. Did they do that on purpose or is it a mistake? I can't find any online information about it.
Answer: The viewer is most certainly meant to see that it is Victoria. What the viewer is not meant to do is question her presence. In all honesty it was most likely a movie error by the writer. Although it is possible that Victoria knew this and somehow hid her smell because her ability pertains to hiding.
Yep. The viewers were supposed to see Victoria standing there and she can mask her scent to blend with others. But the thing is, Edward has a powerful mind reading ability, he should've heard or known that Victoria is nearby, especially given the strong feeling of revenge that Victoria was feeling at the moment.
Answer: There's never any answer given about this, but Victoria, knowing that Edward can smell other vampires, would have taken measures to cover her scent or positioned herself so he was unlikely to detect it. Also, if any of Edward's "siblings" also attended the prom, then their scent would be intermingled with Victoria's, helping to mask it. This is a large gathering and Edward is mostly focused on Bella. Other's individual thoughts and scents may simply go unnoticed.
Question: When Edward was talking to Bella, why did his eyes change colors?
Answer: Vampires' eyes change color according to their state of hunger. When hungry, their eyes are black. When sated their irises turn red, or in the Cullens' case, they become golden brown because they only drink animal blood. Bella notices that Edward's eyes have changed since she first saw him. Being physically close to Bella, whose blood scent is irresistible to Edward, may have whetted his appetite, causing a color change.
Question: In the beginning of the movie, when the Cullens walk into the school, it's sunny outside, but they don't sparkle. Why is that?
Question: In a flashback scene, we see Carlisle about to transform the then-dying Edward to a vampire. Shortly before Carlisle bites, he whispers something to Edward's ear. What could he have told him?
Chosen answer: He says "I'm sorry" - found out by looking at backstage videos and things like that.
Answer: Carlisle says "I'm sorry"to Edward because Carlisle knows how painful is to be a vampire and how hard it is to control the thirst of blood.
Answer: Irina was the Cullens' relative. So, of course, she knew their powers but she was in cahoots with Laurent, and Laurent is obviously going to tell James and Victoria the other vampires in town's gifts.
Question: What does Edward mean when he is in Bella's room and says that he's 'always wanted to try one thing' (or something like that)? It looks to me like he just kisses her, which he's done before.
Question: Why doesn't anybody notice how hard and cold the skin of Carlisle is? He is a doctor after all, who touches his patients.
Chosen answer: He's a surgeon. His patients are usually unconscious when he's actually touching them. Not always, of course, but it's just his hands he's touching them with and he'd be sure to be very gentle so they wouldn't notice how hard they are. A doctor with cold hands is kind of a running joke, really.
In addition to the other reply he is a surgeon, so he is most likely wearing gloves.
Question: Why is it when Bella sees Waylon's body does she have a flashback to Edward? What is the relationship here?
Chosen answer: When Bella sees Waylon's dead, pale foot sticking out from under the sheet, she has a flashback to Edward's cold, pale hand touching her in the car. Seeing the skin color of a dead body automatically made her think of Edward's skin and how cold it was. She finally realises then that Edward is not a 'living being'.
Question: I have seen the film Twilight four times now and I still don't understand why Edward doesn't just turn Bella, it is obvious that they are in love with each other (which I don't blame her) but he is still reluctant, I was just wondering why this was, because if Edward truly loved Bella he would turn her and they could truly like a very happy eternal life together.
Answer: Because Edward (and the other Cullens) are deeply moral and caring. They would never have chosen to become vampires and know the hardships that life incurs. Edward wants Bella to live her life and fully experience being human. He fears she will be cursed and lose her soul if she is turned. You do not wish that on someone you love. It would also inflict severe emotional pain on Bella's parents, who'd be losing their only child.
Question: When Edward, Rosalie and Carlisle are running in the forest to spread Bella's scent, when James decides to change course, how does Edward know? He says he can read the mind only at a certain distance, and Alice is in Phoenix. How then was Edward able to know the tracker's change of mind? It seemed as if he had been able to read his mind.
Answer: Edward is able to read anyone's mind "except" for Bella's. He cannot understand why and that confuses and frustrates him. It is learned later that Bella has an unknown ability to block any mental intrusion. That is why Aro could not see Bella's memories and why Jane was unable to mentally inflict pain on her in "Twilight: New Moon."
