Continuity mistake: When Pascal's henchmen infiltrate Buckingham Palace, and force the Queen to abdicate, if you look very closely on the abdication document it is dated the twentieth of March 2003. Yet in an earlier scene where Johnny English is photographed by the speed camera that has the date 21/03/03, obviously the abdication was filmed before the car chase, and therefore the dates get mixed up.

Continuity mistake: When Johnny interrupts the wrong funeral, and Bough saves the day with his 'loony' spiel, Bough takes Johnny's gun and helps him off the coffin. The gun disappears from Bough's hand between shots.

Other mistake: In the chase scene, where Johnny and Bough are chasing the hearse, when Bough and Johnny are discussing where the hearse went, Johnny says "They were heading south." Then he turns the steering wheel to his right, yet when it shows a view of the truck it turns to it's left.

Revealing mistake: At the start of the hearse chase, when we first see the bad guys pull a hand-brake turn through 90 degrees in a small London side-street, if you look on the ground you can see the skid marks from what must have been the previous take.

Continuity mistake: When Natalie Imbruglia and Rowan Atkinson are trying to enter John Malkovich's "chateau", when Natalie is climbing a ladder a tattoo is visible on her lower back. Later, when Pascal Sauvage (Malkovich) is being crowned, Natalie is seen fighting a sniper on the upper-level of the church. When the sniper pushes her away, the tattoo on her lower back is gone.

Factual error: When Johnny and Lorna are in the sushi bar, Lorna says 'cheers' in Japanese to Johnny before drinking Japanese sake. (An English subtitle is displayed). Johnny, obviously not knowing what he is saying replies in Japanese, and an English subtitle is displayed saying 'may all of your daughters be born with three bottoms'. The actual translation for what he says is 'May all of your daughters be born with a small penis'. (Not that any normal person would notice)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Johnny is in Sauvage's palace and drops down to take Sauvage prisoner, when the guards appear behind him the screen changes to Sauvage, and then back to Johnny, the guards have changed positions.

Continuity mistake: The first time the film of Johnny in the mirror is shown, look at the toothpaste in the bottom right corner. First you see the Aquafresh, then it cuts to Sauvage, and when it cuts back the toothpaste tube has moved. Then it cuts away and back again, and the toothbrush has moved in front of it.

Other mistake: When Johnny and Bough swap places in the truck, the truck continues to accelerate smoothly.

Life700

Continuity mistake: At the start of the car chase scene with the hearse and lorry, the hearse comes crashing through the garage door, and onto the road. After that follows English and Bough, and then a motorbike pulls up. It is red, but in the next shot, it is Lorna Campbell's pink bike.

Add time

Continuity mistake: In the scene in the garage shortly before Johnny is about to "strike like a coiled viper" he talks to Bough via his wrist walkie talkie – only he talks into his RIGHT wrist while the walkie talkie is on his left.

Add time

Other mistake: When Sauvage welcomes everybody to the meeting, he says "mesdammes et messieurs". On the subtitles, "et" is incorrectly spelled "est".

Revealing mistake: When Johnny enters Sauvage's party, after he broke into his building, a waiter gives him a glass of champagne, which he drops. When a second glass is given to him, the pre-made crack on the paw of the glass is visible, prior to Johnny breaking that glass.

Visible crew/equipment: When Johnny English is getting out of the truck, we see a wide shot. In the bottom of the reflection you can see what looks like a clapperboard.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Johnny English goes down the hole, there is a shot from within the hole of him getting in. He has only put one leg in. However, in the very next shot he is halfway through to having his entire body in the hole.

Add time

Factual error: When Johnny lands in the hospital instead of Sauvage's headquarters, there is a sign behind him which uses the American spelling of "Orthopedics" instead of the British "Orthopaedics."

Add time

Continuity mistake: When the DVD is put on during the coronation sequence, Johnny is holding the toothbrushes red above blue, while pretending to play the guitar. When the camera goes back to him, before he starts singing, the brushes have changed positions.

Add time

Deliberate mistake: When you see one of Pascal's henchmen turn off the power, he is wearing a black suit. In the reflection of the glass on the power box, you can see 'Police' written on the jacket. The filmmaker chose this suit because it was black, thinking no one would see the police logo on it.

Continuity mistake: When Johnny interrupts the funeral, he speaks to an old white woman but in the next shot, he is in front of a black woman.

Dr Wilson

Continuity mistake: When Johnny ejects Lorna Campbell from the car, then lands in the pool, you see Bough specifically uncross his legs and reach for his sunglasses, then when Lorna lifts her head from under the water you can see Bough repeat these actions in exactly the same way.

Add time

Factual error: After the Crown Jewels have been stolen Bough and Johnny arrive at what is supposedly the Tower of London (where the Jewels were stolen from). They actually drive up to the entrance of King's College London on Chancery Lane. Even if they couldn't get permission to film at the real Tower, why pick such a well known building as a replacement?

Factual error: Sauvage's headquarters are supposed to be in the City of London, but in one shot scanning from the top to the bottom of the building, a road sign saying "Canada Square" is visible. This is on Canary Wharf, in the Docklands.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Bough is telling Johnny and Pegasus about the two criminals working for Sauvage, he calls Vendetta "Klaus", and indeed, the screen in front of them shows this. However, the end credits put his name as "Carlos".

Visible crew/equipment: In the hearse chase scene, when Johnny is getting out of the car, on the side view you can see a very obvious cover up of the camera in the window reflection.

Add time

Revealing mistake: In the room where the intruder flips the main power switch, the light in that room starts to go off BEFORE he flips the switch and the indicator turns red. Watching the DVD in slow motion helps to notice this.

Continuity mistake: When Johnny and Bough are talking after Agent One died, you see that Bough's coat is pulled together, but when it shows the backside of him, it's apart. Then it's back to normal again.

Continuity mistake: When the foreign secretary smacks Johnny English in the face after he poured his glass of champagne over her at Sauvage's reception, you can see a Chinese man and a woman standing by the door looking at the incident, but in the next scene when Lorna catches Johnny, the Chinese man is seen talking to the woman next to him.

Add time

Character mistake: Sauvage declares that he is going to turn England into a prison, but the graphic he is displaying puts the prison walls around the entire island of Great Britain.

Continuity mistake: Watch Lorna's hair when she first meets and speaks to Johnny English in the Tower of London. A strand of hair is undecided whether to rest on her brow or above.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Pascal Savage is examining his family tree on the table, the tree can be seen when he tries the hat on. Then the scene cuts to the Archbishop. After this when the scene cuts back to Pascal Savage the family tree sheet is nowhere to be seen.

xx:xx:xx

Revealing mistake: When Lorna knocks out the two guards with the fire extinguisher in Sauvage's office, you can see the extinguisher actually misses the bald guard's head.

Add time

Other mistake: When Johnny asks about the tattoo on the archbishop's butt, the subtitles say "Do you or do you you [sic] not have tattooed on your bottom 'Jesus is coming, look busy'?".

Add time

Plot hole: At the end of the film, Trevor McDonald reads the news and says "the spy, who we cannot name for legal reasons..." Yet on screen, one of the newspapers that flashes up (I think it's The Times), has a headline congratulating Johnny English by name. He's not going to be a secret spy for long if they reveal that.

Add time

Factual error: All monarchs of England are crowned in Westminster Abbey; nearly every monarch since Edward II has been crowned while sitting on the coronation chair with a large stone known as the Stone of Scone (or Stone of Destiny) resting beneath it. This stone was stolen from the Scots in 1496 and given back to them 500 years later, in 1996, but will presumably be loaned back to the English for future coronations. The building in which Sauvage's coronation was being held was not Westminster Abbey, the throne he was sitting in was not the coronation chair, and the Stone of Destiny was not resting under the chair. Trivial points, perhaps, but factual errors all the same. They could have least have made them look the same.

Add time

Other mistake: When Bough tells Johnny to wait for his signal that he's disabled the alarm system whilst discussing their plan in the aeroplane, Bough says, "You then break into this window here." On the subtitles, it actually reads "You them break into this window here."

Add time

Other mistake: When Johnny takes his Bloody Mary from Sauvage at the Reception in the Tower of London, he asks him, "Could you rustle up some of those cheesy niblets?" On the subtitles, it reads "Could your rustle up."

Add time

Continuity mistake: When the congregation gasp in horror at seeing the Archbishop of Canterbury's bottom at Sauvage's Coronation, you can see in a wide shot of the congregation a woman wearing a white hat and she is putting her hand to her mouth. When we see a close-up of the woman in the next shot, she puts her hand to her mouth for a second time.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Johnny English and Bough watch Klein and Vendetta escape in the funeral hearse, Bough asks Johnny what they should do, to which Johnny replies, "Watch and learn, Bough". At this point, you can see that Johnny's face is dirty, but when he is driving the truck a few shots later, his face appears completely clean.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Johnny is in the hospital, a doctor comes out of his office and is joined by two nurses who stand behind him, but in the next shot the nurses are now in front of the doctor.

Add time

Audio problem: When Johnny spills his glass of champagne over the foreign secretary at Sauvage's reception, she says "What in God's name?" but her mouth doesn't match what she is saying.

Add time

Factual error: Whenever a new heir to the throne is appointed KING or QUEEN they face opposite ways on a stamp. The Queen faces on the left on stamps. So if Pascal became King, how come he also faces left on the stamp? This is a British tradition so they can't have "forgotten" this tradition.

Add time

Continuity mistake: When Johnny meets Lorna in the Tower of London for the first time, we see a close up of Johnny's face and Lorna can be seen taking a sip of her champagne. In the next scene, the glass is away from her mouth and she is taking a sip of her champagne for a second time.

Add time

Factual error: At the end of the film, after Johnny has foiled Sauvage's plot and the Queen has been restored, a news announcer says that Sauvage has been charged with high treason, which still carries the death penalty. Assuming the film is set in 2003, this is incorrect since the death penalty in Britain was abolished for all crimes, including treason, by the Crime and Disorder Act passed by Parliament in 1998.

Lorna Campbell: You obviously haven't met our host, Pascal Sauvage.
Johnny English: Oh! Thank God! You know, I think I'd rather have my bottom impaled on a giant cactus than exchange pleasantries with that jacked up Frenchman. In my opinion, the only thing the French should be allowed to host is an invasion.
