Best comedy movie mistakes of 1986
Continuity mistake: The Bird of Prey is the one captured by Kirk's crew in ST III That ship's bridge showed Klingon Cmdr Kruge in his elevated command chair with his helmsmen arrayed circularly below him, and nothing else. ST IV has this same ship, however the bridge now resembles The Enterprise layout with Kirk's command chair behind Sulu and Chekov at their rectangular helm, with Spock, Scotty and Uhura at their usual positions.
Continuity mistake: When Walter is watching the fire go through the electrical system in the walls of the kitchen, watch the blender. One shot shows thick, chunky, white/orange stuff flowing out over the edge of the counter. The very next shot shows the blender toppled, but very clean. There is no trace of the chunky stuff in the blender or on the counter.
Factual error: When Steve Martin dies with the mask on, the inflation bulbs (the little black bags that inflate and deflate) deflate completely. Actually they should INFLATE completely and stay that way. The gas is still on full blast and Steve is no longer inhaling (which would cause them to deflate). It was done only to emphasize Steve Martin's demise but it's factually incorrect.
Continuity mistake: Early in the movie, we see "Woody" driving a 1969 or 1970 Red Mustang. At the end of the movie, when he is driving his friends over to the mayor's house, he is driving a much older Mustang, either a 1965 or 1966. It is red like the first one, but the car's body style is obviously very different.
Factual error: At the very beginning of the film, Gunny Highway learns that he's being reassigned to the 2nd Marine Division. The 2nd Division, located at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, is situated on the NC coast; there are no mountains in the immediate vicinity. However, when the Gunny trains his platoon, he does so in the hills of another Marine training camp located in California. There is a big difference between California and North Carolina.
Continuity mistake: When Jack Burton and the rest of the gang escape from the Wing Kong Trade Centre the first time, the guards fire at the left side of the bus breaking the windows and making holes in the bodywork. When we see the bus a few seconds later as it is driving away, it appears undamaged.
Continuity mistake: In the opening scene the camera pulls back from a bedside locker to an over the shoulder shot of Kathleen Turner's character doing her make up in the mirror. Close inspection shows that the shoulder in the foreground is actually that of a double who doesn't quite match Turner's movements.
Deliberate mistake: This film contains the most stupid scene ever filmed. Linda Koslowski dips her canteen in a creek and a full grown crocodile grabs it and tries to drag her into the water - and she holds it off in a tug of war until our hero Mick arrives and kills it. Nonsense. A slightly built woman has a much chance of holding her own against a 1200kg croc as I have of flying to the moon. She'd be croc food before he even heard the splash - a croc that big could take a 1000kg buffalo without pausing for breath, never mind a small woman.
