Continuity: When Dumbledore first introduces Lupin as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teahcer, the camera pans to the Gryffindor table. You can see that Ron and Hermione are sitting opposite each other with their dinner sets in front of them. Then Malfoy insults Harry, then when it cuts to Ron saying "Shove off Malfoy" Ron is now sitting opposite the girl who was beside Hermione and not Hermione herself, and the girl couldn't have just moved across because all of her dinner set is in front of her too, perfectly set out.

Continuity: The position of the pile of books next to the 'Monster Book of Monsters' book changes between shots. The top one moves quite noticeably, and there is no violent shaking between these shots.

Continuity: In the scene where they're having their first Defence Against The Dark Arts lesson and Harry is facing the boggart, Lupin jumps in front of Harry because he thought it would turn into Voldemort, as he later states in the movie. But the boggart had already turned into a Dementor before Lupin makes a move.

Continuity: When Harry goes back to Hogwarts and they stand before the Fat Lady portrait she refuses to let them in because she's trying to show them she can break a glass with her voice. When she cannot she smashes it upon a brick wall behind her right shoulder. Later in the movie after the students gather around the Fat Lady's painting after it's slashed the wall is missing.

Continuity: While everyone is in the Dursley's dining room, before and after Aunt Marge's inflation, the plates, cutlery, food, etc., on the table and kitchen counters change positions in subsequent shots, depending on the camera angle, not due to anyone touching them.

Continuity: When Malfoy and his friends run away after the invisible Harry beats them up, in a wideshot Hermione and Ron stand quite far apart yet in the following closeup they are standing side by side.

Continuity: When Potter and Hermione is following back in time down to Hagrid's you see Hermione leaning against a column before putting her arm down. When it cuts back she is still leaning against the column.

Continuity: After rescuing Sirius, Harry and Hermione return to the hospital wing as the bell starts to chime. They make it up there before the bell is done, despite having to run up at least five stories. Don't you think that's a bit too fast?

Continuity: When Harry attacks Malfoy, he pulls Crabbe's pants down. When Malfoy and Crabbe start to run up the hill, in one shot, Crabbe's pants are down by his ankles. In the very next shot, his pants are up near his waist and he wouldn't have had time to pull them up between shots.

Continuity: When Harry arrives at Lupin's office the tall dark ornate chair sits directly in front of the corner of Lupin's desk, with one of its chair legs right beside the desk leg. However, in the wide shot when Lupin explains that he resigned, the chair is much further away. Then after Lupin leaves, when Harry walks towards the door, the chair is beside the desk again.

Continuity: As Harry is about to drop his shoe on the floor in front of the Monster Book of Monsters, there is a closeup of Hedwig sitting on the chair. When it cuts to a wide shot, you can see that Hedwig has moved to farther to the left on the chair.

Continuity: When Tom and Potter arrive in the Minister's office Potter goes straight to Hedwig. When Tom says, "He arrived here just five minutes before yourself." you see Potter touch Hedwig's beak. When it cuts he is touching Hedwig's cheek.

Continuity: After Neville's Snape/Gran Boggart, Lupin says, "Wonderful...to the back Neville. Everyone form a line." In the next two shots, first Neville heads to the back, then Malfoy shoves Neville to the side and Crabbe pushes the line of kids forward. Yet in the next shot from the front of the line, Neville already stands at the back of the line and then in the next shot, Neville walks towards the back of the line, where more kids are gathered now.

Revealing: After Ron has been dragged down the hole by the Grim, you see both Harry and Hermione get hit by The Whomping Willow and they fly backwards and land on the ground. Notice when Harry places his left arm in the ground, the ground is unnaturally soft.

Continuity: When Trelawny says "Look at the cup, tell me what you see" to Ron, the way Ron holds the cup changes between shots.

Revealing: When they look at the newspaper about Sirius being sighted you can see the picture of Sirius on the newspaper doesn't move at all.

Continuity: Outside Hagrid's, when Fudge says "We must search the grounds," the way Dumbledore holds his staff changes between shots.

Continuity: At the start of Hagrid's lesson, he coughs and says, "Ta-daa!!" for all to see Buckbeak. In the next wide shot Goyle stands at the back and his hood and robe lie flat. In the next close-up Goyle's hood is positioned completely differently, then in the next wide shot it's flat again.

Continuity: As the Monster Book of Monsters falls to the floor and chases Harry's feet, the ripped seat cloth of the chair Hedwig sits on is visible. This ripped seat cloth changes significantly a total of four times in the following shots.

Revealing: The angles, length and position of Harry's scar on his forehead, change considerably throughout the film.
