Continuity mistake: Just where was that evidence locker? Randy borrows a big screen TV from the evidence room and pushes it upstairs toward the ground floor office, indicating the evidence locker is in the basement. But when Natalie arrives and walks through the office, she goes up the stairs instead of down to find Randy with the TV wedged in the stairwell, indicating the evidence room is on the upper floor. The TV wedged itself tight on his way up the stairs, so he hasn't moved it in the meantime: he's in exactly the same spot with the same picture on the wall. (00:40:30)

Other mistake: At the end when Bob Costas is signing off, the mic is in his right hand with the window on his right). When it switches to Natalie watching the upside down TV, the image on the screen is a flipped image (so that the mic is in his left hand and window is on his left). The broadcast wouldn't be a flipped (or mirrored) image than what we see, otherwise, everything the viewer is watching would be backwards (like the writing and numbers).

Revealing mistake: When Monk steps in front of the limo to stop it from leaving, on the bottom right of the screen there's a black line that doglegs to the right (seen over Monk's coat sleeve). It's like the camera was cracked or something was stuck to it. When the camera angle changes it's gone, but is there where the camera is back on Monk.

Continuity mistake: When the bartender walks away after Monk's unsuccessful attempt at bribing him, Natalie's hand instantly changes positions between shots. (00:13:30 - 00:15:00)

Continuity mistake: When Monk and Natalie are arguing at Monk's apartment, Natalie is wearing a ponytail. However, when the scene cuts to them standing in Fendle's hotel room, Natalie's ponytail is gone, and does not reappear for the rest of the episode. It's the same day, however, since she's still wearing the same dark black coat in both scenes. The most likely explanation is that the scene in Monk's apartment was filmed concurrently with Natalie's scenes in "Mr. Monk Makes the Playoffs" - the black-collared shirt Natalie is wearing in the second half of the episode appears to be the same one she wears in the previous episode, where her hair is in a ponytail for most of her scenes. When the camera is on the bear, he's close to the stumps and Monk and Brian are several feet away. Revealing mistake: The car that explodes isn't sitting in a striped parking lot space. In fact, it's very obviously parked out in the middle of the lot's traffic lane, well away from any other vehicles, precisely because the special effects crew are about to blow it up.

Continuity mistake: Near the end when Monk is doing his usual "Here's what happened" speech, he hands an envelope to the dad. A few minutes later he walks away from the dad, who still has the envelope in his hand. Immediately, the shot changes and Monk, who is not near the dad, has the envelope.
Continuity mistake: The shots don't match when Monk gets out of bed to go out and confront the UFO enthusiasts. The position of the bed covers changes noticeably between the close-up and the wider shot. (00:36:20)
Continuity mistake: When Mr. Monk enters the Sheriff's office, he is seen straightening out the shades on the front door, so that they are both even about half way down the window. When the Sheriff opens for the woman that was concerned about her relative, in the first shot the right window shade is now pulled all of the way down. Then, when the Sheriff closes the door, both of the shades are now even once again about half way down the window as before.
Continuity mistake: When the gunman is shooting at the Jeep, he hits and deflates the near side rear tyre. His only shot after this wounds the sheriff. Yet when Monk is walking next to the Jeep, both tyres on this side are flat. Then when Monk starts going for help, the two tyres on the other side are now flat.

Continuity mistake: After the FBI agent asks Monk to go undercover, Stottlemeyer puts his hands on Monk's and Natalie's shoulders and starts escorting them to the door. When the shot cuts to a wider angle, he does this over again. (00:06:05)

Answer: The two men are trying to work out a secret deal between them without involving the union, which means the workers' interests aren't being represented and defeats the whole purpose of a union. The mayor would lose labor's support and Cusack's union troubles would just be starting.
