Flashback - S2-E25

Visible crew/equipment: At the start of the episode Reese and Malcolm are teasing Dewey with the ball, after it rolls into the gutter the camera goes back to the three boys. To the left of the screen is the massive lighting equipment for the sunlight. (00:00:10)

Flashback - S2-E25

Visible crew/equipment: When Lois goes into labour with Malcolm, she runs outside taking Francis and Reese with her. When Francis says, "You're a liar, you're a liar," watch the back window of the car and you will see the camera and camera operator's reflection.

Emancipation (2) - S3-E2

Other mistake: In this episode Malcolm's new teacher begins a league table for the Krelboyne class, and since Malcolm shows that he is better than the whole class, the teacher creates a new highest rank for him which he calls "1 to the 11". However mathmatically, "1 to the 11" is still 1, so it seems rather strange that the teacher would go the trouble, and that none of the class would notice this.

Book Club - S3-E3

Factual error: It's very very unlikely that police would chase all those women through town (even take helicopters to arrest them) just for making noise on someone's property for couple of minutes.

Cliques - S3-E21

Visible crew/equipment: When Hal rebuilds the track of dominoes, he walks out and slams the the door. This starts the dominoes falling. When it comes up to a shot of the American flag in dominoes, if you look closely to the left of the screen you can see a hand pushing it over.

Professor Lazarus

Zoo - S4-E1

Continuity mistake: When the Tarantula is put on Hal at the zoo, the shot is only of a yellow shirt with the tarantula crawling on it. When the shot changes to where they show the whole Hal, you can easily tell that the tarantula is fake - it is larger than it was and is in a different spot on Hal's shirt.

Humilithon - S4-E2

Continuity mistake: When Hal starts to fight with Lionel with the mop at the school when Hal turns his back you can see it is wet from the mop a few scenes before he hit them and then the frame before Lionel strikes Hal with the mop his shirt is dry again. (00:17:05)

Stupid Girl - S4-E4

Visible crew/equipment: When Hal is driving the steamroller at night alone in the car park - just before Dewey shows up - in the first shot there is a crewmen standing smiling in shorts to the side of the roller who then slowly walks out of view.

Kicked Out - S4-E12

Continuity mistake: Malcolm's seat belt changes from on to off the first scene with him and his mom in the car. When it's a shot from the front it's on, but when it's a shot from the side (from the driver's/mom side) you can see that the part of the seat belt that's going across is now behind Malcolm, instead of on him like it was a second ago. This changes back and forth.

Kicked Out - S4-E12

Plot hole: Malcolm mentions how his parents would flip if they knew he was still dating his lying girlfriend. But in the episode before (while in the car with Lois, at the end) he mentions how his girlfriend has him guessing what she wants to do. The way he says it, makes it known that he is still dating her. He says it in present tense. Therefore, they already know for sure, from his own mouth.

Opening theme song: Yes, no, maybe, I don't know, can you repeat the question? You're not the boss of me now, You're not the boss of me now, You're not the boss of me now, and you're not so big. You're not the boss of me now, You're not the boss of me now, You're not the boss of me now, and you're not so big. Life is unfair.

Tutoring Reese - S2-E19

Question: This question could be for many American TV shows not just this one, but are American schools so strict about cheating on one single test? Because here in Europe if you are caught cheating you will most of the time get an "F" for that test, plus "official warning", and you need like 3 or 4 warnings like that to be Kicked Out of school. But, I saw on many American TV shows situations when a character cheated once and he was like "they are gonna kick me from school" (one example, Family Matters when Steve helped Edward during the test and he was almost expelled).

Chosen answer: I work in a student conduct office. Students are not expelled after one academic misconduct incident (there are rare exceptions in higher academia). A first time offense usually results in a "0" grade on the test or assignment in addition to a sanction of a warning or probation. Repeated offenses can lead to being suspended for a period of time and even permanently dismissed. Students often cheat or commit plagiarism because they are struggling in school. The goal is to help students get the help and resources they need. Students who are caught committing a misconduct often tend to panic and believe the worst will happen to them. TV shows tend to exaggerate the circumstances for dramatic or comedic effect.

Answer: They used to do this. Cheating was a violation of the honor code and you would get a mandatory suspension. American schools vary a ton from place to place. During the late 90s and early 2000s they were incredibly strict about a lot of things. The rules have changed because of a lot of scandals in the troubled teen industry. After the school shootings in the early 90s there was a huge moral panic about schools not being strict enough and millennials like the kids in this show paid for it.
