Continuity mistake: In "The Te Of Pacey", Pacey's birthday takes place in winter - it is snowing and everyone is wearing heavy clothes. The other episode featuring his birthday, season 2's "Crossroads", takes place in summer (everyone is wearing shorts and light shirts).
Continuity mistake: During this episode, Jack injures his left shoulder playing football and has to wear a sling the entire time. Every single time Jack is shown, he is wearing a blue sling on his left arm, with the supporting strap across his right shoulder (to provide diagonal support), except once. During the party scene when Jack is talking to Dawson - the blue sling is suddenly over his right arm, with the supporting strap across his left shoulder. This scene was actually shot with the sling on the correct arm, but was "flipped" to make it fit with the direction of the next scene to follow.

Plot hole: Dawson mentions to everyone on the beach, that he and Jack have to go paint their 'last home of the season', implying they have been earning money by painting homes around Capeside. However, when Dawson and Jack stop by the hardware store to get supplies, Dawson picks out a metal handle for the paint rollers. Paint and new rollers makes sense, but if they have indeed painted other houses that Summer, he probably wouldn't need a more substantial piece of equipment as the heavy duty metal paint roller handle. He would already have one.
Plot hole: While out at sea, Jen and Pacey get slammed by the storm. So Pacey decides to take shelter at a small cove that he and Dawson had once used to wait out a storm. Pacey and Jen make it safely to the cove, and wait on the boat in fear of being capsized or drowning. If they are in a cove, and close to shore-why wouldn't they go on land to wait out the storm where they would be safer than in a boat that could be capsized or flooded? They could have probably swam a few feet to get to the shore, since they were already in a small cove that was near land. When Pacey was steering the boat into the cove; there was a noticable man-made jetty they were very close to, so obviously they were within close range of solid land.
Continuity mistake: Gram's kitchen in previous Seasons had orange walls, and the cabinets were painted with avocado green and orange centers. (Except for the Pilot Presentation, where the cabinets were painted all green). However, in this scene the walls are still orange but the cabinets have been suddenly changed to avocado green and yellow centers.
Plot hole: When the storm hits the Capeside Yacht Club, Andie takes charge and tells Mrs. Valentine to write down two phone numbers and call Dawson's parents, and Jen's grandmother. But she forgets completely about Joey and Pacey, both of whom are in harm's way, especially Pacey. Seems illogical she would have Mrs. Valentine call about two of the people out at sea, but not the other two. Joey's family and Pacey's family would also be concerned.
Plot hole: When Pacey and Andie are talking at the Senior Party, she excitedly mentions that he will be in the Caribbean that Summer. Pacey says that Andie would be in Florence, Italy. This doesn't make sense, because at that point in the episode, none of Andie's friends knew she was returning to stay in Italy. In fact, later during the graduation ceremony, Andie is talking to her brother Jack. He is the first person she tells the news to, and even says, "I haven't told anyone else this". So how would Pacey know the night before that Andie had decided to stay in Italy longer?
00:30:45 - 00:37:25
Continuity mistake: When Joey and Pacey are on the boat coming home, look closely at Pacey's hair under the cap he is wearing. It is longer/thicker hair, and appears to be layered somewhat on the sides and back of the neck. A little later when Joey and Pacey have docked in Capeside and are getting off the boat, Pacey's hair is suddenly cut very short/close to the head, and does not look like it did under the cap on the boat.
00:00:50 - 00:05:05
Audio problem: When Dawson's father hands the baby to Joey, so he can take a picture of her and Gretchen before the Prom, you can hear a noticable "Ahhhhhh" in a female voice from the background, that sounds very much like Dawson's mother. But this wouldn't make sense, as Gail had just gone off to find her shears and cut roses for the corsages.
Revealing mistake: During the scene when Dawson and Gretchen are talking on the bridge, two couples walk by in the background. An older couple passes from left to right, and a younger couple walks from right to left. The younger couple is a woman with blonde, curly hair wearing a green top and beige/white skirt, and a guy wearing a green or blue top and white pants. During the same scene, the same younger couple again walks by in the background from right to left two more times. Then the older couple walks by again from left to right. Then one final time, the younger couple walks by yet again for a fourth time from right to left. Guess they were using the extras a lot that day.
00:27:15 - 00:28:50
Continuity mistake: When Jen and Jack are talking in her room, Jack asks "Have you finished your applications yet?" Jen is rubbing her hands together in front of her. But the next shot, suddenly Jen's arms are stretched back behind her. Too sudden to be a realistic transition.
Plot hole: Dawson and Jen are in a small 'darkroom', developing photos and speaking at a normal level. This darkroom is located just behind the main stairs, and very close to the living room where Dawson's parents are 'getting busy'. Therefore, the parents normally would have heard their voices so close to them, and known they were in the house and not been so surprised by them.
Continuity mistake: At the end of the episode, when Pacey is telling Joey about his school problems; her hair changes dramatically between shots. Just as she says, "Whatever it takes, we're gonna fix it", her hair is blown back off her right shoulder, away from her face with only the hair ends resting on her shoulder. The next shot of Joey, as she says, "I'm not going anywhere without you", her hair is suddenly down in front of her right shoulder, and close to her face again. When Pacey asks her, "Joey?" and she replies, "Yeah?", her hair is still fully down by her face on the right side, in front of her right shoulder. But then the next shot of Joey when she says, "I'm not that much smarter, Pace", her hair is suddenly swept far back off her right shoulder, away from her face with the hair ends resting on her shoulder again. It looks like they filmed this scene two different ways, and edited it together.
Plot hole: During the Leery's Christmas party, Jen asks Jack which colleges he applied to in her name. He replies: Bard, Brown, Columbia, Emerson, Sarah Lawrence, and BU (Boston University). But later in this season, Jen goes to visit NYC because she was accepted into the University of New York. How could she have been accepted there when she never applied? Jack didn't apply for her there, and she didn't fill out any college applications herself.
Plot hole: After Drue has spent the night at Jen's house, Grams explains to Jen that she had a nice talk with Drue right after Jen left for school. But this doesn't make sense, because why would Jen have to be at school a certain time, and Drue not go to school at the same time or at all? His attendance at school would have been required as well.
Plot hole: When Dawson goes over to Joey's house to talk to her about Pacey's school problems, he mentions that Pacey had missed that entire day of school. Joey apparently didn't know this, as she is surprised at the news. Since Joey and Pacey are closely involved - wouldn't she have noticed his absence at school that day already? Surely she would have noticed Pacey missing for an entire day of school.
Plot hole: Mrs. Valentine almost fires Joey, after discovering that she lied about knowing the Owens. Drue steps in and saves Joey's job by claiming he did see the Owen boy. But Joey keeps her job throughout the rest of that season. Since the Owens were said to be in Paris only until the 1st of the year - wouldn't Mrs. Valentine have found that Joey lied about knowing them as soon as they returned to Capeside? Surely Mrs. Valentine would have mentioned Joey to the Owens; thinking she was their good friend, and because she was new on staff at the Country Club they were members of the board for. And once she found out Joey had indeed lied, why did she not fire her at that point?
Continuity mistake: When Joey and Dawson are talking at her house before the party, there is a shot of Joey with her hair swept back behind her right shoulder, and the ends curled up as if blown by the wind. She says, "Doing what?" Then the next shot of Joey, as she says "I know," her hair is suddenly completely down around her face, in front of both shoulders, and not curled up on the ends or wind blown. Then the next shot of Joey when she says, "Oh it was nothing, it was great," her hair is once again swept back behind her right shoulder, and curled up on the ends from the wind.
Plot hole: During Pacey's phone call to Joey at the end of the episode, Pacey lies about being on a fishing trip and mentions having caught a "91 pound marlin" which is a pretty big fish. This doesn't make sense for him to say that, as a fish that large would be noticably missing when he and Doug returned home. And they wouldn't have likely thrown a fish that large back into the sea. It would reveal he was lying if he returned home without the fish.
Revealing mistake: This scene of Dawson and Joey in the parking lot of the "Dive-In" was not really filmed in the same location. The show only had the location of the "Dive-In" for a limited time, and had to film all other related scenes in the parking lot of the studio in Wilmington, NC. Any scenes that don't show water in the background; and are just palm trees, lighting etc. were actually shot several weeks later in the parking lot, which was recreated to be part of the beach at the "Dive-In".
Continuity mistake: When Jen and Grams are arguing in the kitchen, Jen says "Why don't you donate to someone who cares". At this point, Jen turns to face away from Grams. But the next shot shows Jen suddenly turned towards Grams, facing her. Later in the scene when Grams says "Why don't you take the time to fill out a couple of your college applications", Jen is turned towards Grams. But the next shot suddenly Jen is facing away from Grams again. Apparently this scene were filmed two separate times, and edited together.
Plot hole: When Pacey and Joey are unloading the groceries from the car for her party, Pacey makes a remark that he has to go to Joey's garage to get a dolly to haul in the charcoal. But Joey's house doesn't have a garage. During the entire series; there has never been a visible garage on their property, and the large blue truck is always parked out front in the open.
Plot hole: During the 4th act of this episode, Dawson and Joey spend an evening together as friends. When they are walking out of the coffee shop, they suddenly laugh and switch their coffee cups as if they had each others. This doesn't make logical sense, as they wouldn't know they had the wrong coffees without tasting them first, and if they had tasted them already inside the shop or knew they had the wrong coffees, they probably would have switched the cups then without waiting until they got outside. And usually the coffee is handed to the individual who ordered it, so they wouldn't be switched.
Factual error: When Joey and Pacey go down to the Basement to talk, they catch Dawson and Gretchen kissing on the basement couch. They are lying on the bottom cushion of a couch raised above the floor. But when Pacey is talking to Gretchen about it in the kitchen during dinner, he says something about "Catching her and Dawson making out on the Basement Floor". He definitely uses the word floor, but Dawson and Gretchen weren't down on the floor - they were up on the couch.
00:23:25 - 00:26:05
Plot hole: This scene reveals that Joey has brought Dawson a special gift from her sailing trip with Pacey. It's a brick from the foundation of Ernest Hemingway's home in the Florida Keys, symbolic to 'build the foundation of a friendship' between her and Dawson. In reality, it's highly unlikely that anyone would have allowed Joey to damage a foundation wall by prying out a large-sized brick; and steal it from the premises of a famous, historic home and landmark.
Continuity mistake: Right before the graduation service, Dawson is joking with Joey to get her mind off her speech. The wind has blown Joey's tassle so it's caught partly on her left ear facing the camera. But in the next shot of her, the tassle is suddenly hanging normally in front of her ear. She hadn't appeared to move her hands.
Continuity mistake: When Joey and Pacey are talking at the table on the Promboat after the 'brutal breakup'; her arms keep changing position too quickly between shots. As Joey says, "You break my heart into a thousand pieces," her right arm is folded across her, and the right hand is resting on her left sleeve just below the bare shoulder. The next shot, from behind Joey you can see her right hand still gripping her left shoulder, but the sleeve is further up and ruffled on that side. Then just before she says "Just leave me alone", the next shot again shows Joey from the front; and suddenly her left arm is raised up, hand by her face, and the right arm is down on the table with the hand curved up in the air. As she says "Just leave me alone"; her left arm is still up and hand resting by her face, and the right arm is laid sideways across her, hand on elbow. Then the next shot of Joey shows that suddenly her pose has changed; and her left arm is raised up diagonally, hand across her right shoulder, and her right arm is still laid horizontally across her, hand by her elbow. All of these transitions are far too abrupt and fast to be realistic.
Continuity mistake: During this scene towards the end, Bessie insists on putting lipstick on Joey for Graduation. She dabs it on quickly, and there appears to be a noticeable smudge or mark on Joey's upper right lip from the lipstick. But the next shot of Joey, the lipstick suddenly appears normal and perfectly applied, and the smudge is gone.
Plot hole: At the end of the episode, when Pacey and Joey finally sleep together, there is a moment before when they are both standing in front of the mirror talking. To the right of the mirror, there is a large window looking directly into the bedroom they are standing in. The curtains are pushed back, and you can see the outside through the window. Pacey and Joey make their way slowly towards the bed, making it clear they have one thing in mind. They don't seem to notice the window which would give full view to their bedroom and bed, and neither of them makes any attempt to close the curtains. Noone seems to care that anyone walking by would be able to look directly in on them while they are 'busy'.
Revealing mistake: When Dawson arrives home after his evening with Gretchen and friends, his Mother is seated on the couch waiting up for him. As she talks to him, she stretches back, still seated on the couch; and you can see on her stomach the outlines of the padding she is wearing to make her appear pregnant when she really isn't.
Plot hole: When Jen introduces Joey to her father in his office, she calls her "Joey Potter from Capeside". But later when they are at dinner, Jen's father suddenly refers to Joey as "Josephine" which seems strange as he wasn't told that was her legal name, and only those who know her well would know that. Joey is not necessarily a nickname only for Josephine, so it wasn't just a logical deduction.
Revealing mistake: When Jen and Jack are having coffee at the coffee shop, Jen walks outside and turns to bang on the outside window of the store to get Jack's attention. When she hits the window, you can tell it isn't a real window made of glass. It's obviously some sort of plastic, as it flexes too easily and moves too much to be a real store window. This was probably done to make the window safer for the actors during this scene.
Continuity mistake: When Dawson is coming down the stairs to talk to his parents in the living room, there is a shot of Gail and Mitch on the couch together. Gail is sitting in such a way that her legs are draped over Mitch's legs, and her right leg is specifically hanging over his right leg touching it. But in the next shot, they show Gail and Mitch from the other side of the couch; and suddenly she is sitting with her legs up, bent at the knees and Mitch has his right leg up. There wasn't enough time between shots for anyone to move.
Revealing mistake: When Grams is in the Kitchen with Jen and Jack, her sweater isn't buttoned right. When she walks close to the table you can see that the bottom edges of the front of the sweater don't match. It appears to be about one button off-one side is higher than the other.
Plot hole: When Pacey and Joey run into Jen and Jack outside the restaurants, Jack suggests they all go to the pizza place near them. Joey and Pacey agree, and it is implied that all four of them are going to the same place to eat dinner together. But the next shot of inside the pizza restaurant only shows Joey and Pacey seated at a large table with Drue, Anna and the other guys. Jen and Jack are nowhere in sight. It isn't likely Jen and Jack wouldn't be seated with or near Pacey and Joey for dinner, since they suggested they all go there to eat.
