Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Lies My Parents Told Me - S7-E17

Revealing mistake: When Spike tells his mother that he's become a vampire, she asks him if he's drunk. He responds with "Little bit." Just after he says this, someone can be heard coughing off-camera. It could be his mother because she isn't supposed to be well, but it seems odd that the camera wouldn't be on her during this. And a cough wouldn't really be necessary for the scene.

Other mistake: Robin uses the song that Spike's mother sang to him to provoke him into attacking him. The song is played on his computer through Apple's media program "iTunes". He clicks his computer's mouse to start the song, but when we see the monitor the cursor isn't placed on the Play button. Robin doesn't jostle the mouse when he presses it, it remains completely still on the desk. And the only way to play a song through iTunes using a single mouse-click is by clicking on the Play button.

Dirty Girls - S7-E18

Revealing mistake: In the opening scene, where Caleb picks up the potential slayer in his truck, there is a brief shot of the two from the hood that pans slightly to the right. In doing so it reveals the edge of a screen showing a fence and trees passing by, revealing that the car is in fact stationary and in a studio. (00:02:40)

Empty Places - S7-E19

Continuity mistake: During Anya's pep talk to the Potentials, Andrew draws crude illustrations to visualize what she is saying. One the second page that uses to draw a picture of the sun, the top of the previous page that's folded over the back of the board changes from being folded straight to folded at an angle between shots.

Visible crew/equipment: When Dawn and the Potentials try to get past one of the police officers at The Bronze, Kennedy says that he'll have to shoot them all to stop them. As he responds with "It doesn't really bother me", the shadow of a boom mic can be seen on the wall behind him in the top right hand corner of the screen.

Touched - S7-E20

Continuity mistake: In the previous episode, Empty Places, Kennedy had a cut across her nose and two more between her eyebrows in the last scene. In the first scene of this episode, which takes place a few minutes later, the cuts are completely gone.

Touched - S7-E20

Revealing mistake: When Giles slashes the Bringer's neck in the basement, you can tell that there is no entry wound and that the fake blood was merely applied to the actor's neck to give the impression of it being slashed.

Touched - S7-E20

Continuity mistake: Anya's hair changes from straight in the previous episode to curled in this one, even though it is set directly after.

End Of Days - S7-E21

Continuity mistake: Towards the end of the episode whilst Buffy is fighting Caleb with the scythe, right after he says to her, "You're not slipping out of this fight, girl. Can't you see? You can't stop me. I can just keep going back for more. It's like being reborn," and throws her into a wall, the position of the scythe changes constantly between shots.

End Of Days - S7-E21

Revealing mistake: When Buffy finds Faith and the Potentials in the sewers she throws an Ubervamp across the room. When we see the Ubervamp from behind you can also see the actor's blue boxer shorts sticking out of the Ubervamp costume.

End Of Days - S7-E21

Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the episode when the Potentials are fighting the ubervamps, when they see the second one they move away from it. You can see in the bottom right hand corner of the screen that the ubervamp already has a Potential. In the next shot you see it jump down and grab a Potential.

Chosen - S7-E22

Revealing mistake: Early in the final fight, Vi makes a flying kick to knock an Ubervamp off the cliff. As she lands, she swings back and twists slightly, suspiciously like one would do if suspended on a wire. There is no way she could gain this motion by kicking straight off the vamp as shown. Chosen - S7-E22

Continuity mistake: Towards the end of the episode, when Buffy lands on the school bus she's wearing pointed toe pink shoes, but in the next shot where she's jumping off the bus roof, she's wearing brown Timberlake boots. (00:39:11 - 00:39:40)

Touched - S7-E20

Spike: You listen to me. [Kneels in front of her.] I've been alive a bit longer than you, and dead a lot longer than that. I've seen things you couldn't imagine, and done things I prefer you didn't. I don't exactly have a reputation for being a thinker. I follow my blood, which doesn't exactly rush in the direction of my brain. So I make a lot of mistakes, a lot of wrong bloody calls. A hundred plus years, and there's only one thing I've ever been sure of: you. [Buffy looks away; he reaches toward her face.] Hey, look at me. I'm not asking you for anything. When I say, "I love you, " it's not because I want you or because I can't have you. It has nothing to do with me. I love what you are, what you do, how you try. I've seen your kindness and your strength. I've seen the best and the worst of you. And I understand with perfect clarity exactly what you are. You're a hell of a woman. You're the one, Buffy.
Buffy: [Quietly.] I don't wanna be the one.

Question: Can someone please explain how exactly a Watcher knows who the chosen one is? In the season 2 episode "What's my line" Kendra explains that her parents gave her away to her watcher when she was young because they believed it would be best for her. How did they know about the slayer mythos and how did they know Kendra could be one? I always thought that when a new slayer is born it could be anyone; and that was no discernible factor in who would be the next one to become the slayer.

Azureth

Chosen answer: From what we see in the series, certain girls are identifiable as potential Slayers - Kendra clearly fell into this category. The identification method is presumably mystical in nature, but the Watchers' Council are pretty effective at that sort of thing, so they're quite good at tracking down the potentials ahead of time. Not perfect, though - it does appear that Buffy herself may have slipped through the net - certainly she had no inkling of what she was until she'd already taken on the role of Slayer. It is possible, however, that this was actually cultural - an American family would hardly be likely to turn over their daughter to some strange man for 'training', so the Watchers might have chosen to keep an eye on her covertly, whereas some other cultures (like Kendra's Jamaican parents) might be more willing to believe.
