In 1971, a man identifying himself as "Dan Cooper" (later misidentified by the media as "D.B. Cooper", which ended up being the more popularised epithet) hijacked a plane and jumped out of the plane in mid-flight with over $200K (equivalent to over $1 million in 2017).
