Shopgirl (2005)

Continuity mistake: When Steve Martin is talking to Claire Danes (I forget the exact time; she's wearing a tan sweater, I remember), she's sitting on a bed. At one point, she leans forward. The very next shot is of Steve Martin standing in front of a mirror opposite the bed - and in that mirror, Claire Danes is sitting *back*.

The Book of the Dead

Continuity mistake: In chapter 63, Pendergast is mixing chemicals and accidentally spills a few drops of sulfuric acid on Smithback's hand. At the bottom of page 357 (of the hardcover edition), Pendergast grabs "a small box of baking soda, ripped off the top." In the very next paragraph, "Pendergast shook baking powder over the burn mark." Baking soda and baking powder are VERY different chemicals; the soda would have been the option for a burn, because it would neutralize the acid, while baking powder would do nothing. A simple but obvious error.

Continuity mistake: When Charlie asks for the check in the restaurant, the check is brought and he reaches for it with his left hand. When Tony protests that he'd take care of the check, there is a shot from in front of Charlie and his *right* hand is trying to grab the check. It continues to switch between shots until Harriet grabs the check and pays for it herself.

Continuity mistake: After Tacy and Nicky have gone to Tacy's family with the long, long trailer, Nicky tries to park the thing in the family's driveway, breaking things and knocking things over. At one point, Tacy's uncle yells to Nicky - but he distinctly calls him "Ricky."

Vlad (2003)

Continuity mistake: When Adrian is in his car, a thug climbs in and makes him drive at gunpoint. At one point, Adrian drives the car off route from where the thug wanted him to go, and he struggles briefly, throwing the gun at the window and shattering it. However, at the end of the chase, Adrian jumps out and runs away, and there's a quick shot of the thug opening his door and giving chase - and the window is fully intact now.

The Court Jester (1955)

The Court Jester mistake picture

Continuity mistake: During the big swordfight with Ravenhurst at the end, Hawkins gets cornered by a row of candles. To show off, Ravenhurst slices through a candle near himself. Hawkins slices through the row to one-up him, and at first appears not to have cut them. Ravenhurst laughs, and then Hawkins blows at the candles, and they all fall apart, the cut bases angling downwards away from Hawkins. There's a shot of Ravenhurst being insulted, but then watch the candles in the next shot of Hawkins - the angled bases of the candles are all now *facing* him. A few of the cut-off pieces also reappear on the tabletop.

White Chicks (2004)

Continuity mistake: After Karen (Busy Phillips) tells off a longtime crush-turned-jerk, "Tiffany" (Marlon Wayans) comforts her. Tiffany puts (his) hands on the sides of Karen's neck and tells her a little line about "guys not seeing the beautiful thing right in front of them," or something to that effect. Watch the shots here carefully - facing Karen, Tiffany's hands are on both sides of Karen's neck. From the shot behind Karen, however, one of Tiffany's hands is on her shoulder. Both hands are back on her neck in the next shot.

Elmer Gantry (1960)

Continuity mistake: In the scene when Lulu Bains is prancing around in the dressing room, there is one steady shot of her. In this shot, as she moves around, the right strap on her outfit begins to slip off her shoulder. The shot ends by her side with the strap completely down her mid-bicep; however, in the very next shot, which is from the front, her right strap is back up, and it's her left strap which is halfway down. The print wasn't reversed to this effect, either.

Boys on the Side (1995)

Continuity mistake: As Alex is walking up the hallway in the hospital at one point, watch carefully. As he first enters in one shot, he puts both of his hands in his pockets. In the very next shot his hands are still swinging by his sides, and then he puts them in his pockets again.

Happy Gilmore (1996)

Continuity mistake: When Happy swings the club at the beginning (and astonishes the two men), watch his arms. In one shot, he's holding the club with both hands, and in the next, he's only using one arm.

Love Actually (2003)

Continuity mistake: After one of the interruptions (phone calls from her ill brother), Sarah and Karl sit on adjoining sides of her bed. In the wide shot of the two of them (closer to and facing Sarah), we can see Karl's hands are pressed together as if in prayer. However, in the following, slightly overhead shot, Karl is sitting with his hands in a different position.

Rat Race (2001)

Continuity mistake: Tracy throws a wrench and other things onto her (soon-to-be-ex-) boyfriend's truck. Several dents appear, including on the roof. She also drops a can of orange paint which spills up the windshield. However, for the remainder of the movie after this scene (as her boyfriend drives it away and later Tracy throws him out and takes it herself), there isn't a single dent left on the truck. Not just as she chases her boyfriend, but for the rest of the film.

Rat Race (2001)

Continuity mistake: There is a shot of Blaine as he lays on the Cadillac's roof during the balloon/cow/keymaker/car chase. This shot is specifically for when Blaine snaps the hood ornament off of the Cadillac by accident, then stares at it in his hand. In the next shot of the car, the ornament is back on, and it stays on for the remainder of the scene.

The Mummy (1999)

Continuity mistake: As the sun is rising, Hamunaptra is revealed (a literal trick of the light). However, long before the sun is fully up (let alone directly overhead), Dr. Chamberlain is seen holding an umbrella over his head, blotting out the sun which is now shining directly *down* on him.

Rocketeer (1991)

Continuity mistake: When Cliff and Peevy anchored the statue into the ground in the field to watch the rocket in action, they use a wired switch to activate the rocket. However, there's something wrong with this: there is no wire visible leading to the rocket/statue.

Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Jabba pulls Leia's chain, there is a long shot as she leaps up onto his throne, and he is holding his wine goblet in his left hand, and pulling her chain with his right. However, in the very next shot (in which he says "Soon you will learn to appreciate me"), the entire frame is reversed. This is evident in Jabba's holding the wine in his "right" hand, his higher-placed nostril (which is normally on the left on his face) is now on the "right," Leia's reversal of her armlet, etc. (00:29:20)

Bowfinger (1999)

Continuity mistake: How does Afrim "lose" his arm in the face-melting scene? He takes off his sunglasses and uses both arms to fold the sunglasses and throw them into the police car (he even uses his left hand to throw them in), and yet somehow his left arm drops off as it "melts."

Bowfinger (1999)

Continuity mistake: In Kit's restaurant confrontation scene, Carol's wig is being put on. In this shot, we see Daisy's arms are both up at her sides, as if she's twiddling her fingers (or something similar). In the next shot, Daisy's arms are behind her back, her hands clenched.

Bowfinger (1999)

Continuity mistake: When Kit is reciting "Keep it together" at his MindHead session, he holds his hands up in one shot to gesture at each word, but in the next shot, his hands are in his lap, folded close.
