Continuity mistake: The kitchen walls are completely different than the rest of the episodes. Also, there is no way to look into the living room from the kitchen at the sink. (They fixed that in episode 2 though).
Continuity mistake: In the 1st episode there are about 20 pictures behind the writers desk. Next episode... Gone, replaced with a giant bookshelf and a bunch of scripts. The bookshelf was behind the couch in the 1st episode.
Continuity mistake: The whole kitchen is completely different from episode 2 onward till the end of the series. (Episode 2 onward it looks the same except for the outside behind the sliding glass door but the background is also flat. The house(s) and trees are flat, there are also no birds out there making any noise).
Factual error: Rob tells this lady that the guy that passed away was his great-uncle and that the last time he saw him was when Rob was 12 years old... This is the same Grandpa that was also seen in the episode "What's in a Middle Name" (in this episode in season 5 Richie would be 10 or 11. But the other episode he was supposedly 8).
Suggested correction:You seem to be confused about Hezekiah's relationship to Rob. He is Rob's great-uncle which means he's the brother of Rob's grandfather, the character from "What's in a Middle Name?" (And by the way, the scene in that episode took place before Richie was even born. The fact that they were arguing over his name should have been a clue).
Deliberate mistake: The movie director tells everyone "ACTION!" Yet Rob stands outside the door and doesn't come in, then he says "uh...action?" Then Rob pokes his head in and asks Leslie "Did you say something?" In "Somebody Has to Play Cleopatra" Rob is the director of the play. He says "Action!" and then Harry (Bob Crane) does not come in on cue several times. Rob also calls Leslie "Liz".(00:15:35 - 00:16:20)
Revealing mistake: The great-grandfather Petrie was just Rob Petrie dressed as a really old man. The lamp in the movie is also one that has been in Robs house and Sally's house in a few of the episodes.
Revealing mistake: Laura and Millie are inside the "house" and Rob is outside the "house" the door and windows are all closed... Yet we can still hear Rob just as if he was in the house rather than outside.
Other mistake: Rob said he hit the plumbing (with a shovel) yet if you hit the plumbing (accidentally poke into a plumbing tube) usually water would shoot all over the place (which never happens in this episode).
Other mistake: Buddy's dog is also the same dog for everyone else. They are all German Shepherds. Except for Millie and Jerry's dog we have never seen him/her ever. Yet they say that they have a dog too.
Character mistake: Rob is reading the news or his lines and instead of saying "the stay awake record of 100 hours" he says "stay away record of 100 hours."
Suggested correction:Of course he does. He is punch drunk from the lack of sleep. That's the point.
On hour 24 Rob couldn't even say the rhyme at all, he also sounded slightly drunk, also his lower eye lids got dark. I have been up for 48 hours before and my eye lids never turned that color also I didn't act slightly drunk like that either. So it's not actually true to life here.
1) You can't assume your personal experiences is typical of everyone's. 2) I doubt your experience was very funny. In a comedy, stupidity overrides "true to life."
More like dumbness overrides "true to life." I'm pretty sure that falling down the stairs is funny to some people (which is what I did).
Other mistake: The record that is to Rob's right (our left) isn't spinning while the base part under it is, until Rob puts the ceramic coffee cup on the record. Notice that ceramic coffee cup is also the same coffee cup that Rob threw away in the episode "Your Home Sweet Is My Home"
Suggested correction:So you are claiming that they somehow rigged the turntable so it would spin without spinning the record until he put the cup down on it. For what reason? No only does this error defy common sense, it is obviously wrong if you watch the episode. The record is spinning. You can see the variations in the highlights on the surface as it does so. Also, it is not a ceramic cup, it is a paper cup, complete with a folding paper handle. And it in no way resembles any cup used in "Your Home Sweet Home is My Home."
I did great! I forgot which episode I saw the same cup in.
Character mistake: Rob is telling Laura why he's in jail. He says "Monica Doorwell! She must be Millie and Jerry's babysitter." The babysitter's last name is "Darwell".(00:02:00 - 00:04:00)
Continuity mistake: Donna goes back to the den to get her coat to show Arthur. Laura yells at Rob in the kitchen "Rob! Did you lock her in the Bathroom!?" It's a den in most of the episodes... Turns out in this episode it turns into a bathroom with carpet on the floor. (Supposedly when Laura is yelling at Rob in the kitchen).
Other mistake: Laura is doing some work on when to have Richie's birthday, and Rob tells Laura "I thought we decided that about 8 years ago." Yet Mrs Billings has asked Rob to do 2 plays (1 each year for the PTA meetings) In the Happy Birthday... (Feb 1964) episode that would have made Richie about 10 due to the fact that Richie was 8 when "What's in a middle name" (Nov 1962) aired.(00:01:00)
Continuity mistake: In a different episode the Alan Brady show writers were on a different floor than Alan Brady and Mel Cooley. Yet in this episode they're on the same floor because we can hear Alan yelling at Mell while Rob is in the writers room where Sally and Buddy, currently furious reading the magazine article.(00:14:37)
Other mistake: While Jerry and Rob are furious, Jerry asks the sailor "What's the matter with the lights?" and the sailor says "power failure on the line, they can't locate it." If there's a power failure then the room would be completely dark just like it is outside. Yet Rob and Jerry have shadows on their hats, jacket, shirts etc. as well as a shadow from the bunk bed. These shadows are caused by the non-working lights or the lights behind the camera.
Deliberate mistake: Rob is about to leave his room, and he opens the bedroom door to the noise of a loud music box that was originally being made by Laura's music box that holds jewellery in it.
