General questions

There was a movie about a mad scientist who was trying to create a clone of his dead wife. He had a handsome young lab assistant. When the assistant's girlfriend falls into a coma after an accident, the scientist offers to clone her as well. The assistant declines, saying a clone wouldn't be the woman who fell in love with him; the girlfriend later recovers. The scientist realises he'll never be able to recreate the past and ends up marrying a much younger woman.

Brian Katcher

Answer: Sounds like the 1985 film "Creator", starring Peter O'Toole, although I can't be certain about the lab assistant and his girlfriend. But a young woman who agrees to donate her egg and the scientist fall in love. There's also the 2017 film called "Andover" where a scientist clones his dead wife, although that film has less in common with your description than the first.

Bishop73

Yep, 'Creator' was it. Thank you.

This has been annoying the hell out of me for years. I'm thinking of an early 1960s (?) black and white American movie that features numerous cameos by A-List Hollywood actors who are so heavily made-up (with wigs and latex facial prosthetics) that they are all thoroughly unrecognizable. At the end of the film, as a complete surprise, there is a sequence of each of these otherwise unremarkable cameo characters removing their makeup for a big reveal. For example, a plain, middle-aged woman who only appeared for a few seconds onscreen grandly removes her latex face to reveal none other than Burt Lancaster. I believe Robert Mitchum and Tony Curtis were also among the reveals. What is this film?

Charles Austin Miller

Answer: "The List of Adrian Messenger" (1963). Burt Lancaster, Robert Mitchum, and Tony Curtis, along with Kirk Douglas and Frank Sinatra, remove their heavy makeup during the epilogue to reveal who they are. Although Lancaster and Sinatra didn't actual portray the characters they claimed to have been.

Bishop73

Thank you. The name of this movie has been on the tip of my tongue for many years.

Charles Austin Miller

Love this movie as a kid. It's rarely shown on TV anymore, but it is (or was) available for free on YouTube.

raywest

Lancaster, Curtis, Sinatra, and Mitchum did indeed portray those characters in heavy make-up. However, their voices (except for Mitchum) were dubbed over by other actors, Otherwise, the audience would have recognized their actual voices, spoiling the surprise reveal at the end.

raywest

Incidentally, director John Huston (who also made a cameo appearance in the film) tried to convince Elizabeth Taylor to play a disguised part in this movie; but, when Taylor learned that her lovely face would be completely hidden under heavy latex, she turned down the role.

General questions

I just remembered seeing a trailer for a movie years ago that I was curious about but never got to see. I just can't remember the name of the movie or even who was in it now. I think it was either a late 90's film or an early 2000's film. And possibly Patrick Swayze was in it? I can't remember for sure. I may be getting it mixed up with Ghost. Anyways, I remember in trailer that this guy was able to see numbers on people's foreheads. And these numbers indicated when that person was going to die and who was next. Like the lower the number, the sooner they were going to die. I don't really remember much else about the trailer. Does anybody know what movie this was?

Quantom X

Answer: You may be thinking of the 1996 horror-comedy "The Frighteners," directed by Peter Jackson and starring Michael J. Fox, Jeffrey Combs, Dee Wallace, Jake Busey, and a host of others. Michael J. Fox plays a shady psychic medium (performing fake exorcisms for money) who starts seeing glowing numbers on people's foreheads shortly before they die under mysterious circumstances. Turns out it's the malevolent ghost of a mass-murderer (played by Jake Busey) who is still trying to get the "highest score" of victims, marking them with sequential numbers before he kills them. Michael J. Fox must engage in supernatural battle with Busey to stop the carnage. "The Frighteners" was a technically superior film that didn't do so well at the boxoffice but went on to become a cult classic.

Charles Austin Miller

I looked up a trailer for that, it's not it. But thanks.

Quantom X

Answer: There's an episode of "Medium", s06e09 "The Future so Bright", where Allison sees numbers on people's forehead that tells how long they have to live and all the dead people have "0" on their foreheads. It might not be what you're thinking, but maybe you can look into if "Medium" got the idea from the movie you're thinking of.

Bishop73

Answer: There is a 2012 short titled "Numbers" directed by Robert Hloz that premiered at Cannes Film Festival in which a young man sees numbers floating above people's heads and then meets a girl with the same ability (it's not in English and might not be what you're thinking of so I won't give away any spoilers). There is also a 2007 film, starring Nathan Fillion, called "White Noise: The Light" (sequel to "White Noise") where the main character has premonitions of when people are going to die and tries to save them. But he doesn't see numbers on their heads, as far as I know.

Bishop73

I checked those. Not them either. :/.

Quantom X

Unfortunately, "The Frighteners" is the only movie with that plot.

General questions

I just remembered a movie I saw a few years ago. I want to say it came out in the mid 00's but it might have been later or even earlier. I think it was about some kids living in an underground civilization in a city that was built to help them survive long enough for the nuclear waste lands that were now the Earth's surface to become inhabitable again. But for some reason they had stayed underground for thousands of years longer than they were supposed to and the city was starting to malfunction and becoming a danger. I seem to also remember giant mutant moles causing them problems also. And in the end of the film they get to the surface and are surprised to find that it's covered in green plant life and perfectly suitable for life now. What movie was this?

Quantom X

Chosen answer: "City of Ember", a 2008 film based on the 2003 book. Considered a box office flop.

Bishop73

Ah! That is the one. Thank you. I had forgotten about this film till it suddenly popped into my mind again. I remember liking it a lot and wanted to find it again.

There's an horror film, 80s maybe, with a weird bald dog, with bulging eyes. It looks revolting but the cast don't treat it as a threat until it bites someone, and they kill it. I thought it was Brain Dead, but haven't got a copy to check and can't find an image which matches it.

Answer: So there is an Australian film called "Braindead" (that was re-released in the U.S. as "Dead Alive") where a creature's bite would turn people into zombies. But I don't think it was ever treated as a non-threat. But it wasn't a dog, it was a Sumatran Rat-monkey. But it's an ugly, bald creature that could look like a dog. http://non-aliencreatures.wikia.com/wiki/Sumatran_Rat-Monkey Here's a link to a page that has a picture of the creature so you can see if it's what you're thinking of.

I've been quoting a movie for years now. When I stop to think about it... I can't remember what movie the quote is even from! So I'm trying to find out of anybody can name the film that this quote is from. But someone is in a public bathroom of some sorts, possibly a truck stop and is hiding in one of the stalls. I think they may have been on the phone, but I'm not sure. An old man comes in and does his business then gets up and whips and you just hear him speaking through the wall. "Corn? Why is it always corn? I didn't even eat corn!" I've quoted that line as a joke many times now over the years but I can not remember what movie, TV show, or possibly YouTube video that was from. Google search doesn't help me it seems.

Quantom X

Answer: You're probably thinking of Mike Myers as "Fat Bastard" in the 2002 comedy "Austin Powers in Goldmember." We see the silhouette of Fat Bastard against the paper wall of a geisha house, peering into the toilet and exclaiming, "Oy, I dinna have any corn!"

Charles Austin Miller

I looked up the quote. And while it is similar, I don't think that's exactly the one I'm thinking of. I remember the movie saying the quote that I remember being almost word for word how I mentioned it. I almost want to say it was in a Jackass movie or similar. I just can't remember for sure.

Quantom X

This is the Mike Myers "Fat Bastard" scene. Look familiar? https://youtu.be/f71VqFgwPy4.

Charles Austin Miller

Nah. I said I looked up that scene and don't think that was it. I actually have never watched the Austin Powers movies.

Quantom X

Answer: There is a scene in Senseless (1998) where Darryl (played by Marlon Wayans) is listening in on the two girls in the bathroom and Tonya (I think) says the line "Corn? I don't remember eating no corn." Although, it's obvious that the corn-in-poop joke is common toilet humor, so I'm sure a dozen other movies have had the joke and similar lines.

I watched a movie after 2010 about Watergate and the two journalists but I don't remember the name.

i_harfoush

Answer: The two journalists who broke the Watergate story are generally considered to be Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward. The only two movies with both reporters, that I can think of is, "Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House" (2017), and, "All the President's Men" (1976).

Answer: This is done because according to animators, it's easier to draw hands with three fingers instead of four. This is a practice that dates back to the early days of animation; characters such as Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny. And Popeye were usually drawn with three fingers, thus setting the precedent still in use today.

zendaddy621

Answer: The answer is pretty complex and there's YouTube videos delving into the many reasons. It started in the 1920's and the idea behind Mickey Mouse, in 1928, having 4 fingers is the style he was drawn in, with rounded shapes, making 5 fingers too crowded. Walt Disney allegedly said with 5 fingers Mickey's hands would look like a "bunch of bananas." Additionally, there's a theory called the "uncanny valley", which basically states that humanoid objects that look almost, but not exactly, human tend to make people have uncanny feelings of eeriness (think of life-like dolls or why some CGI looks strange to us). For some reason, 4 finger characters make us recognize they're human-like, without that eerie feeling. There are several other theories and ideas behind the 4 fingers (such as many characters being anthropomorphized animals.) Although Japanese anime often have 5-fingered characters for cultural reasons (in fact some 4-fingered characters have been edited with 5 fingers when released in Japan), so it's not always based on saving time or money, but tradition. With the aid of computer generated animation and people breaking from tradition, the future of cartoons may include more and more 5-fingered characters being the norm.

Only saw the ending to this movie a couple times. A black teenager is sitting in a chamber about to be killed by lethal injection. As the process starts, the phone rings and a woman picks it up. She immediately screams to stop the execution but the kid has already died.

Answer: It may not be what you're thinking of; but it sounds similar to "True Crime", starring Clint Eastwood and Isiah Washington. Near the end, an innocent black man, Frank Beecham (Washington), is undergoing lethal injection, which is a 3-stage process (although he's not a teenager). A reporter, Steve Everett (Eastwood), is able to convince the Governor that Frank is innocent and the Governor calls to stop the execution, but it may be too late as stage-1 had already begun. As they try to revive Frank, his wife is banging on the window and yelling for him to wake up. It seems the call was in fact too late. However, the end shows Steve out shopping when he comes across Frank, showing Frank to be alive and well, and free.

There was a TV movie that had Hilary Swank. In the movie, she plays a woman whose husband was arrested and charged with the murder of an elderly couple that he knew. During the trial, flashbacks show what happened. The husband had a sleepwalking episode where he drove to their house and began fixing an air conditioner. When they noticed him, they tried talking to him but with no luck. Eventually, the old man touches the husband on his shoulder and he suddenly goes berserk and kills them both. The ending of the movie has the husband found not guilty and Hilary's family disowning her.

Answer: The movie is The Sleepwalker Killing. It's based on a true story. In it, Swank plays the wife of a man who kills his mother-in-law and seriously injures his father-in-law (her parents). His defense is he was sleepwalking and she's torn between believing her husband and staying with him or siding with her family. She decides to stay with her husband, causing the riff in the family after he was acquitted of murder and attempted murder.

From what I vaguely remember it's about a woman in a fancy big house. There is a party going on. This guy is being nice to her and they are flirting. She says she has to go somewhere. He begs her to stay with him - she promises to come back, then she goes off, races back, and when she comes back the house is old and some person tells her no one lived there for over 100 years. I think if she had stayed the spell would have been broken. If someone has any ideas please put me out of my misery.

Lozza2016

Chosen answer: It sounds like you're thinking of "Brigadoon". A Scottish village is under a spell where it only appears for one day every 100 years (which was done to preserve the way of life of the villagers.) When two men find it, one falls in love with a woman villager and if she were to leave the village, the spell would be broken and the village of Brigadoon would disappear forever, along with everyone in it (if he stayed he'd have to leave the real world behind). There's been a lot of adaptations of the story, so not sure which version you saw. Two versions I know of are a 1954 film and a 1966 TV movie.

Bishop73

The movie described in the question is not "Brigadoon." For one, the entire village disappeared and there was no old house with someone in it that remained in the intervening 100 years. Also, in Brigadoon, it was the man who came upon the village, not the girl.

raywest

Possible, but I've noticed when people only have a vague memory of things, they confuse what they saw with another film or mix up some points. The key points of 1 day and 100 years and a broken spell pointed to "Brigadoon." But there's been adaptations of the film that the person might have seen which may have alternate minor plots that I'm not familiar with, which I mention so the person could have a reference to look for in case I was wrong in guessing what they saw. I've noticed with these general questions that the original posters sometimes reply if the suggest film is not what they were thinking of.

Which series had a scene where a man had come up with a supercar which could change color, completely camouflage and could talk. The man was killed and the daughter, a lecturer, was being chased by unknown people who wanted to kill her. She was joined by a handsome guy and they were being chased down by I think FBI, and were wanted dead. I watched it in 2010.

Answer: In 2008 they made a TV movie/pilot of "Knight Rider" which turned into just 1 season. This series was a sequel of sorts to the 80's Knight Rider. Charles Graiman built K.I.T.T. 3000, a Mustang Cobra car that could talk. It was reported he was killed, and his daughter did come to identify the body, but it turns out he had actually survived. There was a movie that had Stephen Baldwin in it. In the movie, Stephen has a job as an actor who helps recreate crime scenes for a television show to help catch criminals. Eventually, Stephen himself kills a woman and while reenacting the crime for the show, he starts walking up some stairs. He then turns to the director and says that he can't go upstairs. When the director asks why, Stephen responds, "Because that's not how I killed her."

Answer: There is a British film starring Stephen Baldwin called "Crimetime" in which he plays an actor hired to reenact crimes of a serial killer. To prepare for the role, Baldwin gets all the grisly details from the cops, etc. However, due to the popularity of the show, it's the real life serial killer that begins killing again, to gain headline news, and so that the reenactment show can continue showing his crimes.

Don't know if this movie had Steve Martin in it, but, it was about a man who traveled to a city who I think was going to con its citizens out of their money. The end of the movie shows that the money he collected he used to create a Little League baseball field for the kids to play at.

Answer: My Blue Heaven stars Steve Martin. Martin plays a mob informant living in a suburban town under witness protection. There he commits petty crimes as well as a scam to raise money for a new ballpark. When his scam is found out, he acts quickly to actually have a ballpark built. There was a movie about a teenage boy and his girlfriend going on some sort of trip. The boyfriend, while doing something, is bitten on his left arm by a snake. His girlfriend takes him to a hospital for treatment. While asleep in the hospital bed, a nurse notices his left arm is moving in an unnatural way. When she removes the bandages, she is shocked to see that his entire arm has turned into the head and body of a snake, which then kills the nurse. The end of the movie has the boy standing in a field in the rain begging his girlfriend to help him. Suddenly, his mouth opens extremely wide and a snake comes out. The girlfriend is left with no choice but to kill the snake with a shotgun blast to the head. This isn't Anaconda, but I know it was from sometime in the 80's.

I am looking for the title of a movie about a group of about six 20-ish year old friends who become stuck in a Cessna that they are unable to land after a pin (or something like that) becomes dislodged and gets stuck on another part, preventing that from moving so the plane can descend. They end up having to toss as much as they can out of the plane in an attempt to lessen the amount of weight in the plane to conserve fuel. The film starts with a somewhat flashback to when the female pilot was a child and the Cessna she was in (I think) with her parents and it has a mid-air collision with another plane. I believe this film is a Canadian-made film made in about 2009.
