Casino Royale (2006)

Corrected entry: The supposed police officers from Montenegro wear shirts with the Serbian flag, not the Montenegrin one.

Correction: A similar mistake has already been corrected - Montenegro only gained independence from Serbia in 2006. Hence, when the movie was being filmed, it would have been quite correct for the officers to be wearing the Serbian flag. Not really a mistake.

Casino Royale (2006)

Corrected entry: At the end of the movie, M wonders if the discovery of Vesper's motives have now cleared Matthis' name. Matthis was never doubted until LeChiffre himself told Bond that "Matthis is my friend".

Correction: This was well after the case had been resolved - plenty of time for Bond to have reported to M that Mathis was a double agent - he even has Mathis arrested himself. Thus, her wondering if in fact he was innocent is a logical conclusion following the revelation of Vesper's motives.

Amelie (2001)

Corrected entry: After the woman hands the pay-phone to Nino, at the funfair, she walks off, and in this shot the pay-phone is completely bathed in sun. In the next shot of Amelie, we see the pay-phone in total shade. (01:10:00)

Hamster

Correction: That's because the payphone Nino uses is facing the opposite way to the one Amélie uses. It stands to reason that if the sun is shining on his, hers, which is facing the other way, would be shaded by the surround we can see on the phone.

The Doctor

Corrected entry: In the final scenes of the film, a George Cross [or 'England flag'] is flying from the French-occupied Castle Aaaaargh. (01:21:00 - 01:23:00)

Correction: This is simply a ploy by the French to trick the English into thinking the castle is allied. Not a mistake, exactly.

Gladiator (2000)

Corrected entry: The use of cavalry in the opening battle is wildly inaccurate, and not reflective of Roman cavalry practice.

Correction: This depends on both the type of battle and the era. In the Aurelian era cavalry were used in all of the Germanic battles. The battle conditions also made a surprise cavalry attack the ideal option.

Gladiator (2000)

Corrected entry: Although many like to quote it, few have apparently read "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" by British historian Edward Gibbons. For it clearly describes a Roman general named Maximus Quintillian. He may or may not be the person portrayed in the movie, but there was a Roman general named Maximus who defeated the Germanians and was a favourite of Marcus Aurelius. He was killed by Commodus.

Correction: Actually, if you watch the documentary on the VHS called 'Blood, Sand and Celuloid', it clearly states that Maximus was the only fictitious character in the film. If you read 'The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire' and other related texts properly, it is quite clear that Maximus Quintillian was a favourite of Marcus Antonius Aurelius, not Marcus Aurelius. It is true that Quintillian was killed by Marcus Antonius Aurelius' son, but he was called Antonius Commodus. As such, this was an entirely different father and son, though the names are similar. There is no record of a general called Maximus at the time of the early Aurelians, the time of Marcus Aurelius and Commodus.

The Doctor

Do you mean Marcus Aurelius Antoninus? The Gibbons reference about Maximus Quintilian doesn't say anything about him being a general.

There are about 14 Emperors named Marcus Aurelius. Including Commodus, being of that line. The First Marcus Aurelius full title was Caesar Marcus Aurelius Antoninus Augustus. Commonly refered to as Marcus Aurelius. There is only one the first and that was the one portrayed in the movie. Commodus became Emperor Caesar Marcus Aurelius Commodus Antoninus Augustus. Also portrayed in the movie.

lionhead

Corrected entry: When Sir Donald is telling Bond all about the diamond smuggling problems, he repeats parts of his speech twice, eg. "the industry prides itself on the loyalty and devotion of its workers".

Correction: This is intentional. It is done to emphasise the irony of what he is saying. Watch the film the second time the words are repeated - as Sir Donald is praising the loyalty and devotion of its workers, the footage is of a guy smuggling gold out of the mine by hiding it in his tooth. Thus it is ironic that there is NO loyalty and devotion among the workers. This is why the speech is repeated.
