Rosemary's Baby (1968)

Question: When Rosemary gets into the Castavets right at the end, she walks past a man, and then the man says something. She then replies "Be quiet, you're still in [some location]" What was that about...?

Hamster

Chosen answer: Roman Castavet is trying to get Rosemary's attention, and she says "Be quiet, you're in Dubrovnik, I can't hear you". That was in reference to the fact that Roman and Minnie were supposed to have gone to Majorca or Dubrovnik after she found out that Roman was supposedly dying (which was just a lie Rosemary was told so she wouldn't suspect them when her baby was taken). Roman and Minnie got in a cab and pretended to go to the airport, but never left town.

General questions

I remember a television sitcom as a kid (I'm now 30), about a family. The dad is a doctor and I do not remember the actor. The mom is a lawyer played by Patty Duke. They had two teenage kids. Anthony Edwards played the son and Helen Hunt played the daughter. Grandma lived with them. Anyone else remember this sitcom?

fan before the site

Chosen answer: Yes, the series was called "It Takes Two", and also starred Richard Crenna. It aired from 1982-1983. More information can be found at http://imdb.com/title/tt0083431/.

Question: In the earlier episodes of Friends why is Ben Gellar credited as John and Christoper Allen and then when he next appears, he is credited as Jack and Charlie Allen? Was the character of Ben played by quadruplets before the part was recast?

Answer: The twins who played Ben Gellar were named John Christopher and Charles Thomas Allen. John Christopher was the one credited initially, and the "Jack and Charlie Allen" credit was for both twins (Jack is a nickname of John).

Question: On the DVD (UK, not sure about anywhere else) there is a feature called 'the secret of esrever', which tells you to look for very subliminal hidden images in the film - I have looked so many times and there is still one I can't find - does anyone know where the 'water' one is? The only thing I can see is what looks like an owl's head made out of the trees in the scene where the woman is drowning a baby in the lake. If this is it how does it relate to the film? Also is there a message in the images? There are a few words but I can't make a sentence out of them.

Answer: In the scene where the baby is submerged in the water, watch the lower right-hand side of the screen. You'll see the shadow of a stickman emerge and come higher into the frame.

Question: When Joey is talking to his 'hand twin' in the bathroom he says "...And you know NASA's gonna want to talk to us." If he does in fact say NASA, then what does he mean? Why would they want 'hand twins'? Thanks.

Answer: It's just one of the nonsensical things Joey says, it's not as if NASA would really want hand twins. He just thinks they might because NASA researches a lot of stuff.

Question: In the trivia section it says "A trait of J.K. Rowling is to make up names that are pertinent or descriptive of their object/person (eg. Diagon Alley, Voldemort, etc)." I understand Diagon Alley = Diagonally, but what does Voldemort describe?

Question: Is it ever explained why the characters cannot use magic to protect themselves from the werewolf (Lupin)?

Answer: No, it's not really explained, though one could argue that it's simply because nobody wanted to harm Professor Lupin. Potions can be used to help subdue the beast, but it was too late by the time Lupin transformed.

Annie (1982)

Question: Is Miss Hannigan Annie's actual mother? I know she says that her real parents were killed in a fire but there seems to be overwhelming evidence that this is a lie. Any thoughts, references, that might clear this up?

synthetikrose

Question: During the scene when Jesus is being crucified he looks towards "Heaven" and asks something like "why have you forsaken me?" What does he really say and does this mean to imply that even Jesus questions God at times?

Answer: Even in his anguish, Jesus still resorted to Scripture to fight his battle, and Psalm 22 is a messianic text which depicts the suffering of the Messiah.

Answer: According to the King James version of the bible, Jesus cried from the cross "My God, why hast thou forsaken me?" Most people believe he cried these words in desperation and anguish, others who study Aramaic believe he meant it as an understanding exclamation (i.e. he's grasping that it's his destiny).

Question: This movie confused me. I know that when Evan blacked out was actually when he went back, but what I don't get is how he got back or why the hemoragging happened. I also don't get the whole scar thing. Wouldn't he have hemorrhaged from having the scars or is it only at major changes that he hemorrhages?

Answer: He hemorrhaged because his brain had a hard time adjusting to all the memories of an entirely new lifetime. The doctor explained it when he showed how very little memory space Evan had left near the ending of the movie (the brain scans). The scars would've healed by the time he got to each new reality.

Question: Is David Lynch a Roy Orbison fan? He seems to use Orbison's songs in most of his films. If he's not a particularly avid fan, can anyone tell me why he uses the songs with such frequency?

Answer: He's a fan now, but David Lynch only first heard "Crying" by Roy Orbison just before shooting "Blue Velvet", and wanted it in that movie. However, he bought Orbison's Greatest Hits CD and liked the song "In Dreams" so much that he ditched "Crying" until Mulholland Drive.
