General questions

I remember a television sitcom as a kid (I'm now 30), about a family. The dad is a doctor and I do not remember the actor. The mom is a lawyer played by Patty Duke. They had two teenage kids. Anthony Edwards played the son and Helen Hunt played the daughter. Grandma lived with them. Anyone else remember this sitcom?

The Village (2004)

Question: Does anyone know the alternative endings for this movie? I can't wait until the DVD. Was this the ending the M. Night Shyamalan wanted in the theaters?

fan before the site

Chosen answer: According to Shyamalan, the ending we saw was the only ending created for the film. He has stated numerous times that the rumors of any alternate endings were untrue.

Answer: The only "alternate" ending was one of the movie ending with Ivy climbing over the wall. There was a stolen script, and M. Night Shyamalan didn't want the movie spoiled by it being leaked, so he added everything after that originally intended ending.

I watched a version of the movie that had added scenes, not necessarily an alternate ending, and have been trying to find it ever since. It had, for example, a scene where Ivy finds huge chimes hanging in the forest that give voice to "those we don't speak of." Any info on that?

Gothika (2003)

Question: I understand the shower scene, but why was Rachel beating up Miranda in her cell? She knew that Miranda didn't have anything to do with her death or how her husband was abusing her.

Chosen answer: It was just a reason to get the guards to come to the cell and open the door to check on her. Rachel beats up Miranda so that the guards would see Miranda throwing herself all over the cell and think she was trying to kill herself. She had all three people in the cell with her and everyone was occupied when she threw them offguard by jerking awake. It was easier for her to escape.

Runaway Jury (2003)

Question: Rachel Weiss's mom said that one daughter was dead and she hasn't spoken to her other daughter in so long, it's like she's dead too. Why didn't she keep in touch with her mom? Was that part in the book and cut out of the movie?

fan before the site

Chosen answer: Remember, in the book, the lawsuit is against tobacco companies and not gun manufacturers. In the book, Marlee's mother died of smoking-related lung cancer, thus the motivation for revenge against the tobacco companies. In the movie, the reason to avoid Mom is to maintain the stealth of Marlee and Nick's movements as they tried to "fix" a jury.

Runaway Jury (2003)

Chosen answer: Hackman's team was closely monitoring what Hoffman was doing in regards to the tampering, as evidenced by their taping of his conversation with Weiss when he decides not to pay. Cusack and Weiss probably anticipated this so were forced to offer the deal to Hoffman to keep up the illusion.

Answer: The short answer is because the viewers did not yet know their intentions so, from the viewers point of view, they should be asking both sides for money. Also, even though it was revealed much later they were on the side of the planting, it doesn't mean they were not greedy, and they would have taken money from either side or both sides.

The Italian Job (2003)

Continuity mistake: During the chase scene in the tunnel, the two motorcycles were always pretty close to each other through most of the scene. When the first motorist was knocked off, it should've taken out the second one right away. (01:36:00)
