Other mistake: In the courtroom scene, when Chief Sunday tells Brashear to stand up, the tenders go to help him up without question, and when Captain Hanks overrides him, saying that he has to stand up himself, even they look confused and surprised. They wouldn't be just some random enlisted sailors doing this, they have been trained in being a tender, and would reasonably know what the policies are. (01:56:50)

Factual error: As it says at the very end of the movie, the year is 1969. In the near ending when Carl is in his room getting ready to go to the court hearing, which re-inlists him into the navy, if you look out his bedroom window there's a flag with 48 stars. In 1969 the flag was already 50 stars.
