The Matrix

Continuity mistake: When Mouse is in the room with the brick window, he drops one long box that is assumed to be full of guns. The scene cuts to Tank and then Mouse again. When he gets out the guns, he pushes 2 smaller boxes off the long box which weren't there before. (01:16:15)

Continuity mistake: When Neo comes back from the conversation with the oracle, a part of the cookie, which he has got from the oracle, is bitten off. A few seconds later he wants to eat the cookie and there is no sign of a bite anymore. (01:14:15)

Continuity mistake: When Tank comes in to talk to Neo about training in Neo's cell, the strap on Tank's shoulder moves from being on his skin when he's in the doorway to on his shirt in subsequent shots. (00:44:55)

Continuity mistake: Neo and Trinity kill all those soldiers on the roof before the agent comes to fight them. The agent shoots at Neo and during the whole dodging bullets scene every single corpse is gone. More to the point, Trinity's disappeared too! (01:45:36)

Continuity mistake: When Neo is fighting the agent in the subway, he wipes his blood on the back of his hand, but when he puts his fists up the blood is gone. (01:51:45)

The Matrix mistake picture

Revealing mistake: When it is Neo's turn to make the Jump he takes a run up, and the camera changes to a brief sideshot of him running across the top of the building with the sky behind him. There is a big fuzzy blobby outline around him which should have been edited out. (00:52:20)

Audio problem: In the lobby shootout scene, when Trinity starts kicking one of the guards after he goes to reload and reaches for a new clip, you can hear her yell the first time she kicks him, but the next two times, although her mouth opens the same way, the audio's been silenced. (01:38:20)

Other mistake: When Morpheus and his crew rescued Neo from the Matrix, how was it possible that Neo's real self had his ear pierced? (00:35:55)

Continuity mistake: When Morpheus first takes Neo into the Construct and is explaining it all to him, you can see Neo's reflection in his glasses, but when the camera shows Neo, he is wearing different clothes and standing in a different position and moving. (00:39:55)

Continuity mistake: As Neo fights the guards in the main floor of the government building, he does a one handed somersault while shooting at the guards. If you watch closely on a shot behind Neo, he is aiming his gun way off to the right side yet still manages to shoot the guards. (01:39:15)

Continuity mistake: When Neo is on the ledge outside of the office trying to follow Morpheus's instructions, he wraps his hand around the pillar to attempt at making a pass. If you look, you can see multiple hand prints from where Reeves had repeated the shot over and over. (00:15:45)

Continuity mistake: In the subway fight scene, the shot where the agent is holding Neo down while the train is coming, you can see the Agent's tie in front of his arms, in the shot just as Neo is getting ready to jump with the agent you can see the agent's tie neatly pinned back with a tie clip. (01:57:48)

The Matrix mistake picture

Continuity mistake: In the scene following Neo's death and 'rebirth' he stops the bullets fired by the agents and they fall to the floor. However when we see Neo walking forward, the bullets have disappeared along with the blood stain on the wall from when he was shot. (02:00:45)

The Matrix mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Neo and Morpheus are in the hallway to see The Oracle, the shot of Neo's hand on the knob shows Morpheus with his sunglasses on. Morpheus is in shot the whole time when the door's opened, and he doesn't move an inch, but in the front shot as he walks through the door, his sunglasses have suddenly been removed. (01:07:40)

The Matrix mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Morpheus is being interrogated by the agent alone, the camera switches from behind Morpheus, to just forward of him and back a few times. If you look at the agent's hand on Morpheus' head, you can see that his fingers switch from behind his ear to both sides of his ears as the camera changes. (01:36:25)

Continuity mistake: When Neo gets the phone from the delivery guy, he goes to open the package as the guy is leaving. You can see that when the guy leaves the shot Neo is about to reach in to get the phone, but when the delivery guy is gone completely, Neo is only moving his hand over to start opening the package. (00:12:40)

Revealing mistake: When Trinity's being chased by the cops in the first scene and she makes her first jump from one roof to another when being chased by the cops. One of the cops that is chasing her doesn't quite make a complete jump to the other roof. During his failed attempt when he hits the lip of the roof of the adjacent building it makes the whole building shake. (00:04:00)

Continuity mistake: After filling a room full of holes with the machine gun from the helicopter, the Agents abandon their current bodies and take control of ones that were standing outside the door to the room Morpheus was held in. Where were these guys the whole time the gunfire was happening in the next room? The Agents were standing in relaxed positions as soon as they took control. Wake up guys. (01:44:10)

The Matrix mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Neo is waiting under the bridge to go into the car with Trinity, Switch and Apoc, watch when the car pulls up, you see the back door open completely and then it cuts and then you see Trinity open it again. (00:21:45)

Visible crew/equipment: When Neo is at the office, while in his cubicle, he gets an express delivery. As he signs for it you can see another arm laying on the desk behind him. In the next shot he hands back the clipboard, you see it is only him and the delivery man. [Only visible in 4:3 format.] (00:12:35)

Agent Smith: I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species, and I realised that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment; but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply, and multiply, until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer on this planet, you are a plague, and we...are the cure. Trivia: It's been said that Neo is an anagram for "one". I think it's more important to realise that Neo means "new". His real name is Thomas Anderson. He is called Thomas at the beginning of the movie, when he doubts the truth -- that the world as he knows it is not real. Thomas is the "doubting" disciple in the Bible. Moreover, Anderson means "son of man". Hence, Neo Anderson is the New Son of Man. The biblical references go on and on... Trinity, Nebucadnezzar (the name of the ship -- in fact, the name plate on the ship makes reference to a verse in Mark chapter 3), Zion... So not only is Neo "the One", he has gone from being the doubter to the new son of man.

Question: I get that people in the matrix, who have not been freed, are not ready to be freed, and I know at one point when Morpheus is explaining the matrix to Neo (I believe during the woman in the red dress test) he says something along the lines of: The matrix is a system, that system is our enemy. The matrix is filled with minds we are trying to save, but until we do they are still part of that system and that makes them our enemies. Many of them are so dependent on that system they will fight to defend it.- I am paraphrasing, but it is something like that. As I'm sure everyone knows he also says "The body cannot live without the mind." And therefore if you die in the matrix you die in the 'real' world. My question is, do they ever address the ethical questions that could arise from the fact that they kill mind after mind of police officers, SWAT teams, security guards, innocent humans just doing their jobs? I understand that sometimes it may be necessary, and that Neo doesn't have much choice but to fight agents and kill their hosts at times. But things like Mouse, knowing he is going to die so he grabs machine guns and takes out as many people as he can. Or when Neo and Trinity, on their way to save Morpheus, cover them selves in guns and take out that whole building of guards and pretty much end up with one gun each. The guards were completely prepared to let them enter the building freely if they passed the metal detector, could they not have went empty handed and just taken out two guards later, and used their weapons? It just seems like a pretty bad way to go about a mission to save people. Unless perhaps I missed a speech about sacrificing some minds for the cause or the needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few type deal. Just wondering if that is ever addressed.

Chosen answer: No, they don't address it, other than Morpheus' speech during the test. It's not something that they have any realistic choice about, so they just have to accept it and do what they need to do. Mouse, yes, he chooses to defend himself when cornered, but who wouldn't? These may be innocent victims of the Matrix he's shooting at, but they're still there to kill him - he's hardly going to stand there and accept his fate meekly. There's also no indication that the guards were "completely prepared" to let Neo and Trinity into what's clearly a high security building, undoubtedly they would have been asked for identification, what their purpose was there and so forth and turned away if, as seems likely, their answers weren't satisfactory. Shooting their way in from the start is likely their only option. Yes, it's absolutely ethically unfortunate, but if they're going to resist the machines successfully, it's not something they have any choice about. A necessary evil.
