The Man with the Golden Gun

Visible crew/equipment: As Bond slides himself past the curtain in the hotel room, just before placing the champagne on a table, in the lower right corner of the picture you can see three points of reflection of light on a glass or chrome object on the board (an ashtray?). The left one of these suddenly turns dark, indicating some movement behind the camera. Bond cannot have caused that as there is no light behind him, all light comes from the right and from behind. Continuity mistake: The red AMC Hornet X that Bond steals from the car dealership alternately does, and does not, have an interior rear-view mirror mounted on the windshield.

Continuity mistake: At the start, when the gangster is preparing for the showdown with Scaramanga, there is a rope hanging with a knot in it, however, when Scaramanga comes in the knot in the rope has been tied.

Other mistake: At the end when Bond returns to the bedroom after the glass bottle fight with Nik Nak he says "hope you got all the glass out of the bed" but he just walked across the room in bare feet without a care in the world, which was completely covered in broken glass. Goodnight didn't have enough time to clean this up aswell in the time given.

Continuity mistake: When Scaramanga is talking about the laser gun to Bond, the water is next to his airplane but when he shoots on it, the level is lower. There's only little waves so it's impossible to change that fast. (01:36:55)

Plot hole: Scaramanga kills his boss Hai Fat in cold blood inside Hai Fat's massive estate in Thailand, but even after Hai Fat's attache runs inside and sees Hai Fat dead, murdered by Scaramanga, the attache and Hai Fat's security personnel in the heavily guarded complex permit Scaramanga to leave without being apprehended for the murder of their boss with Scaramanga glibly stating "Mr Fat has just resigned. I'm the new chairman of the board" as he walks out of the room untouched. (01:04:50 - 01:05:25)

Revealing mistake: During the intro, the first Bond "dummy" and the second one when Scaramanga fires are different. They're either real and dummy or both dummies, but the first one has a concentrated look, and the second one looks in awe.

Continuity mistake: When Scaramanga is driving his car into the garage to become a plane, there is no attachment on the side of the car for the wings, but once he enters the garage, one magically appears on the driver's side behind the door. (01:27:00)

Factual error: Q says the golden bullets are caliber 4.2mm. But when we see them they are much larger - more like 9-10mm. 4.2mm is like a hail in an air pistol.

Audio problem: The voice of Lt. Hip, Bond's assistant in Asia (played by Soon-Tek Oh) changes during the film, usually depending on whether it's an inside or outside scene. In all the outside scenes, his voice is much higher and shriller, so it was probably dubbed by a different actor.

Character mistake: James Bond states that the man that fell in the liquid helium would raise the temperature. Since humans have a body temperature of only 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, falling into a tank of liquid helium at -456 degrees would bring his body down to the same temperature as the surrounding helium in no more than five seconds. (01:49:20)

Audio problem: In the teaser we see the hitman load his gun when he gets ready to kill Scaramanga. When Scaramanga walks into the room, the hitman aims for him. The gun makes a loading sound. Upon the hitman's arrival to the room he racks a bullet into the chamber therefore no other action would be required to make the gun ready to fire. A loaded gun does not make a sound when you aim it - and why would he have unloaded the gun while waiting for his victim? When you load the gun, the hammer is back and the gun is ready to fire. No further actions are necessary. And a professional hitman does not wait to turn off the safety on his gun until his victim has arrived.

Visible crew/equipment: As Bond hides behind the door between the two living rooms you can see a gold-colored (metal?) object suddenly entering the mirror in its lower left corner, then it moves a bit as the camera doesn't pan anymore. It has to be something moved or held by a crewmember. (00:27:35)

Continuity mistake: When Bond is picked up by the Sumo wrestler in the garden Bond is upright hitting the wrestler. When they cut to the wrestler front (Bonds backside) Bond is already down over the wrestler's shoulder doing something to the wrestlers backside. They cut back to Bond front side and he is still up and reacting in pain and then bends over the wrestler's shoulder.

Revealing mistake: Scaramanga's woman is taking a shower. When Bond gives her a towel you can see she's not naked but wearing a skin-colored top. The top is also visible when looking at the reflection on the mirror to the right of them. (00:28:35)

Continuity mistake: When the Hong Kong police are chasing Bond, they use three black and white AMC Matador sedans. When they arrive at Scaramanga's hanger, we find that two of the three Matador police cars have been resprayed in red.

Other mistake: Ms. Goodnight was surprised to learn that the car had become flying. There is no way she wouldn't have heard the jet engines and felt the take-off. Also the noise in car's boot must have been loud, but she talked into the walkie-talkie and it came out fine.

Continuity mistake: During the car chase scene Bond overtakes a blue car partially off-road. We see Bond's car almost getting side-by-side by the blue car before we're getting an in-car shot of Bond's car being just behind the blue one.

Continuity mistake: When Bond goes into the belly dancer's dressing room, at first she does not have the golden bullet in her belly button, then she does.

Continuity mistake: During the belly dancer fight, Bond is pushed against a corner and the painting next to him remains unharmed. A shot later, from a different angle, it's skewed.

Francisco Scaramanga: A duel between titans. My golden gun against your Walther PPK. Each of us with a 50-50 chance.
James Bond: Six bullets to your one?
Francisco Scaramanga: I only need one.

Trivia: Although not well known at the time, the film would be the last Bond movie that Harry Salzman would produce.

Question: Where is the golden gun now?

Answer: I haven't been able to find any information on its whereabouts so my guess would be that ended up like most movie props do. Either as a souvenir for one of the people attached to the movie, (actor, director, etc.) in storage (in case it could be recycled as a prop in another movie) or simply discarded when it wasn't needed anymore.
