Factual error: When the new candidates report in to Rescue Swimmer School, one of the airmen is wearing the Silver Star ribbon. The person is too young to have served in another service, and there are no other service's ribbons worn - and the Coast Guard hasn't issued a Silver Star since Vietnam.
The Guardian (2006)
Ending / spoiler
Directed by: Andrew Davis
Starring: Kevin Costner, Ashton Kutcher, Sela Ward, Melissa Sagemiller
While rescuing Jake Fischer from falling into the raging sea, Ben Randall finds the lifeline can no longer support two people so cuts himself loose, plunging into the deep, never to be seen again
Suggested correction: Nobody is wearing medals except for the captain and Randall in the entire scene.
Maggie McGlone: If my muscles hurt, it just means I've used them. If it hurts to walk up the stairs, it's just cause I've done it a hundred times to lay down next to a man who loved me. My face may have wrinkles, but I have laid under hundreds of skies on sunny days. I look like this, well, because I drank and I smoked and I lived and I loved and I screwed my way through a pretty damn good life. Getting old isn't bad. It's earned.
Trivia: In the final scene when Jake goes back to pick up Emily at school (ala An Officer and a Gentleman), his short-sleeved dress shirt has no pockets, a strangely shaped collar and appears to be unbuttoned far too far. In the original script, Kutcher was wearing a "polo" style shirt and slacks, but the test audiences raised too many questions about his status: "Had he stayed in, gotten out, what?" that the director had a team CGI a nametag, collar devices, ribbons and proper colors to the clothes he was wearing. explaining the lack of pocket, odd collar and button issue. This is all verified on the dvd extras.
