Happy Gilmore

Trivia: The evil man at the nursing home is played by Ben Stiller, then a rising star, in an uncredited role.

Trivia: During one of the tournaments, a few of Happy's fans are visible in the background holding cut out signs of his face. This is the same but blown up picture used in Billy Madison to mark the grade he was in.

Suggested correction: I Googled the face sign from this movie while watching Billy Madison, and they are not the same. You can tell the facial expression on Happy Gilmore features a wider smile and arched eyebrows, whereas the cutout of Billy Madison is more straightfaced and his eyebrows are a little furrowed, as evidenced by the wrinkles between them.

Trivia: Bob Barker got paid more for his little bit in the movie than Virginia did for the whole thing.

Trivia: This is a small tidbit, but I thought it was a little bit interesting. When Happy is talking to Gary Potter for the first time there is an older gentlemen standing in the crown behind them that has a portable chair. At one point he drops it and wants to bend down to get it, but he pauses as though the directors might get mad. (00:35:09)

Trivia: Christopher McDonald wanted to sink the long putt on the 18th green himself, as he didn't want them to just cut to a close-up shot of a ball going in the hole. He was told he would be given seven tries to make it, which he did on the fifth try.

Trivia: Christopher McDonald revealed on the Rich Eisen Show that he came up with the finger guns celebration himself, stating that he went into filming having no idea why the character was named Shooter because he was never told.

Trivia: Happy's signature golf swing has been used by real-life professional golfers, who attest that it can indeed provide extra driving distance, though at the cost of accuracy.

Continuity mistake: In the final round, when Happy and Shooter McGavin are about to tee off on the first hole, they show a picture of the 18th green with the Volkswagen Beetle already crashed into the TV tower. However, this doesn't happen until Happy gets hit by the car later in the game. (01:09:25)

Question: After Happy sinks the final putt to win the tournament, Shooter grabs his jacket and runs. Mr. Larson catches up to him and off camera yells, "Face down." However, in the TV version, he instead yells, "Stay still." Why is this line changed?

Answer: It is an inuendo that Mr. Larson "violated" Shooter for stealing the jacket, which is changed for the TV versions to be cleaner. However, some people insist it's the same for both versions, so it's possible that later DVD releases were changed too.
