Visible crew/equipment: When Dr. Loomis arrives to the gas station the boom mic's shadow is visible on the ground. (00:19:02)

Visible crew/equipment: When Loomis looks out the window for Michael, you can clearly see the cameraman's reflection (best seen on the Limited Edition DVD).

Visible crew/equipment: When the sheriff and the officer are talking after getting the gun from his car, you can see a crew member in the background (doorway).

Other mistake: In the scene where Jamie is in the closet, looking at a photo of her mother (Jamie Lee Curtis). The photo looks exactly like the scene where Laurie is sitting waiting for Annie on the ledge in the original Halloween, which wasn't photographed at the time, it's clearly a still from the movie.

Trivia: Series creator John Carpenter actually co-wrote an early draft of the script and even considered directing, but his ideas were dismissed by producers as being "too cerebral" for audiences, and he subsequently dropped out of the project. His script reportedly was more focused on the psychological effect Michael Myers had on the residents of Haddonfield (and possibly inspiring other murders), with Michael only appearing in visions, dreams and possibly as a "spirit."

Answer: It's tricky to say, as the films have contradictory explanations, and there are different "timelines/universes" in the series. But in the context of this film, Michael is for some reason compelled to kill his family for reasons unknown. Presumably he's just finishing the job he started by killing his sister Judith decades earlier. (They try to give a more concrete explanation in the movie "The Curse of Michael Myers," but it's... flimsy at best. And is contradicted by the following film).

TedStixon

Answer: Because he's a psychopath. And purely and simply evil.
