Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Audio problem: Before the Tortuga bar brawl the musicians are shown playing their instruments. When Elizabeth says, "I just wanted to have the pleasure of doing that myself," it is quiet in the bar, but the violinist is seen happily playing directly behind her and no sound is heard. (01:08:20)

Audio problem: When Will sneaks into Davy Jones' chamber and tries to take the key from him, as Davy Jones' tentacles slip and hit the notes on his organ, they only fall on one or two notes, but we hear a full minor chord (which would require three notes at equal length from each to be played). (01:24:30)

Audio problem: Just as the waterwheel begins to roll away from the mill, watch Will and Norrington on top of it - the sounds of their swords clashing doesn't synch up with their actions. (01:47:30)

Plot hole: There are six metal bars mounted around the circumference of the water wheel's axle. In the wheel's interior, when Jack frees himself he lands on his feet, begins to run and promptly hits his head on one of those mounted axle bars, then falls out. Moments later, when Jack returns and runs in the wheel, he is shorter (way more than a foot) than all six of the mounted axle bars spinning with the water wheel, which would make that previous shot impossible, however humorous it is. Trivia: The incredibly short shot of Tortuga when it is first shown (with the man being dunked and such) was actually filmed on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disneyland. While the ride was shut down for remodeling, the crew actually went there and shot the scene with a mixture of live actors and existing animatronic props. If you look closely, many of the "actors" can be seen as fake. (01:04:50)

Answer: The jar was to put Davy Jones heart in. He can't touch dirt ever again since he failed to keep up his duties which means he wouldn't be able to get his heart back.

Chosen answer: Davy Jones cannot set foot on land for ten more years. The jar of dirt is to represent land. Jack carries it with him so that he always has land with him so Davy Jones won't be able to get near him, or so Jack is supposed to believe.
