Revealing mistake: During Alex's dance at the committee, the dancing doubles are quite clear, evident by the obvious wigs and change in height of legwarmers. (01:23:20)
Continuity mistake: While Alex dances to 'Maniac' the black legwarmer on her right leg disappears in some shots. In closeups of her feet it is not visible on her foot, but is then on in the next wideshot, etc. (00:13:10)
Continuity mistake: As Alex begins her dance in front of the committee judge's, the male judge with glasses has no cigar in his mouth in a wideshot, but suddenly has one in, in a closeup. He also reaches to take off his glasses twice. (01:22:50)
Continuity mistake: After unloading her laundry into her basket, Alex elbows the washing machine door shut, but it bounces back open. In the next shot you can see behind them that it is closed again. (00:22:15)
Answer: It states early in the film that Alex went to the ballet and was enchanted by it and started her love of dancing. Her girlhood dream was always to be a part of the conservatory and dance the ballet's one day. Her going to the conservatory was to LEARN that building on her knowledge. Besides, normally she wouldn't have gotten an audition with her lack of Point training, but for Nick's intervening.
