Trivia: Because of success people thought there would be a sequel, right? Wrong, director John Hughes refused to do another film for two reasons. One was because he and Judd Nelson had a terrible relationship, meaning they hated each other. Also because Molly Ringwald was trying to get out the role of the regular teen girl. Eventually she lost all ties with John Hughes when she started to pursue more adult roles.

Trivia: The original running time of "The Breakfast Club" was about two and a half hours. Thinking the film would not be a hit, Universal Pictures cut the running time down to 97 minutes. The studio then destroyed the negatives of the deleted scenes. Director John Hughes said in a "Premiere" magazine article that he has the only complete copy.

Trivia: Brian's dad is played by director John Hughes.

Trivia: When Andrew (Emilio Estevez) is telling his confession during the group therapy, that scene took three days to film.

Trivia: It's rarely ever seen during the movie, but Anthony Michael Hall is the tallest person of the cast. Since this does not suit Brian, Hall's height is often concealed by him sitting while the others stand or him sitting slumped when sitting next to someone.

Trivia: At the beginning, there is a nameplate on an office desk that says R. Hashimoto. Richard Hashimoto is the production supervisor.

William Bergquist

Trivia: The character of John Bender, the resident 'criminal' of the gang, inspired Matt Groening to name his law breaking robot 'Bender' in Futurama. John Bender also tells the high school principal 'Eat my shorts' at one point, which became Bart Simpson's catchphrase.

Continuity mistake: After Molly Ringwald does her trick, she puts the lipstick away twice. It has a shot of her putting it away from the front and then another one from the back.

Question: Why is it that in the scene where Bender is in the gym, he has a sneaker and boot on, but when he gets back to the library, he has replaced it with his boot? Was there a deleted scene where he loses his shoe or something? It just does not make sense that he would somehow find 1 sneaker, decide to wear it, then kick it off on his way back.

Answer: Bender found the shoe in the gym, and decided to wear it. When the principal kicked the basketball, Bender jumped out of the shoe. He left with his boot, and was wearing it when he arrived at the library.
