Revealing mistake: In the beginning scene on the Bak'u planet the stone bridge bends under the weight of the child. (00:04:15)
Revealing mistake: When the villagers are running from the attack on their village, they run across a bridge that gets blown up. If you look, you can see that just as it explodes, several people change the direction they are running so as they can plunge dramatically into the water. (00:55:40)
Revealing mistake: When the Bak'u are fleeing, and running across the bridge, you can briefly see the launchers that are used to propel the stunt people into the air.
Revealing mistake: When Picard and Ruafo are fighting at the end of the film, Ruafo gets blown off the ledge and hangs from a beam with one arm. You can see the support wire underneath his sleeve as he spins around. (01:32:40)
Revealing mistake: When Artim goes back into the cave to retrieve his little pet, we see that the creature is almost as big as his fist. When he grabs it, he closes his fist rather tightly, revealing that the creature is CGI, otherwise it would have been squished.
Character mistake: When Will Riker comes to Troi's office and kisses her, Troi says that she has never kissed him with a beard before, but in the third season episode "Menage a Troi", Troi does in fact kiss a bearded Will Riker, while on leave at Betazed, in the Fifth season "The Outcast", and again in season six's "Man of The People." (00:26:45)
Continuity mistake: When Capt. Picard, Data, and Anij are going to the holoship, they start off from the landing dock with (facing them) Data on the left, Capt. Picard on the right and Anij sitting. This is all well and good but after Data opens the door to the holoship, they magically switch places. (00:33:25)
Continuity mistake: When Artim goes back into the cave to get his little pet he picks it up with his right hand, when the camera changes, it is now in his left hand.
Plot hole: After Riker takes the Enterprise through the Briar Patch to communicate with Starfleet he returns to rescue Picard from the collector in mere minutes, even though it was supposed to be a 2-day journey.
Other mistake: When Data discovers the holoship in the lake he reduces the amount of water in the lake significantly (The ship is now clearly visible, standing out several meters). But even so the banks and the landing stage are still in their correct position. If the surface level had been reduced the landing stage should have been standing out of the water, too.
Continuity mistake: Picard has a cut on the right side of his head in the scene where he, Worf and Gallatin are on the Son'a bridge. It is most visible when he says to Gallatin "Take us into position". After Picard takes the rifle from Worf and Gallatin says "We're approaching the collector", the cut on Picard's head is gone. After he has beamed over to the collector, the cut is back and is bleeding a lot more than it did before.
Continuity mistake: Near the end when Picard beams over to the collector, he is transporting from the Son'a ship, but the transporter beam is a blue Federation transporter beam, not a yellow Son'a beam. (01:30:25)
Revealing mistake: During the opening sequence a Ba'ku woman is knocked over by one of the invisible Son'a and is caught by the man behind her. But if you watch the man behind her he raises his arms to catch her before she starts to fall. (00:04:25)
Continuity mistake: When Picard and his team beam down to the planet for the first time to "rescue" starfleet officers you see a couple of kids playing a ballgame. These balls were CG, however, in a next shot when Picard is talking to the Ba'ku people you see the kids still playing the game in the background, but without the CG balls. (00:22:10)
Revealing mistake: The scene on the bridge where Picard tells Riker and Troi they have two days to become experts on the Son'a was filmed towards the end of shooting. You can tell this because Riker's beard and moustache are obviously fake. Maybe that's why he doesn't have any lines - too worried about his moustache falling off. (00:13:20)
Factual error: Sunlight during the day and moonlight during the night illuminate the planet even though there is no visible sun or moon. If either were outside the Briar Patch the light would not be able to pass through the gas of the nebula.
Continuity mistake: When Data is reactivated in Star Trek The Next Generation episodes "DataLore" and "The Measure of a Man", it is shown that Data's power switch is on his back. Here, Geordi activates him at his neck, possibly due to the clamps holding Data. (00:28:00)
Continuity mistake: When Picard beams onto the collector, his phaser rifle is slung across his back with a shoulder strap. When he fires at Ru'afo one handed a moment later, there is no strap on the rifle. In the next shot, it has returned.
Chosen answer: A briar patch is basically a thorn bush. For insight as to what Riker meant when he said, "Let's use this briar patch the way Brehr Rabbit did," Take a look at http://www.otmfan.com/html/brertar.htm.
