Other mistake: As the first bus explodes on its way from the cafe, we can see a blonde pedestrian casually walk past a window with her ears covered. At no point does she even stop to glance at the burning wreck. It seems (from her perspective) as though the explosion were merely an inconvenient loud noise and nothing worth noticing. (00:27:55)

Other mistake: Tuneman's Jaguar has 127 miles accumulated on the odometer (brand new, effectively). It comes into view once when Jack notices that the bus is quickly decelerating to a very dangerous speed. However when we see Jack grab a mobile phone, there is excessive wear and tear on the center console beneath it, to the point where complete deterioration has occurred in the high stress areas - characteristic of a much older vehicle. Hard to believe such a thing would happen to a vehicle of that caliber in such a short length of time. So it's possible that the odometer we see moments before isn't even from Tuneman's Jaguar at all. (00:38:20)

Other mistake: The bus is supposed to maintain a speed higher than 50 mph to avoid disaster. But at one point where the baby carriage full of cans falls to the pavement and starts tumbling we can see part of the bus in the background, slowed to a crawl and certainly not traveling at least 50 mph. (00:50:20)

Other mistake: In the scene where Jack and Annie escape from the bus after they have gotten all the passengers off, when Annie is tying up the wheel, if you look closely, you can see that the gas gauge is at about 3/4 full. Isn't the gas tank supposed to be almost empty? (01:29:35)

Other mistake: Towards the end when Dennis Hopper is on the subway train with Sandra Bullock, he has a gun in one hand and the detonator in the other. However, when the camera cuts to a close-up of him handcuffing Sandra to the pole, both hands are empty. If he took his hand off the detonator, the explosives attached to Sandra should've exploded, but they didn't. In the next shot, both items are back in his hand. (01:39:50)

Other mistake: Just after the police close the roads in front of the news crews and the black police chopper lands in the road. There is a scene where the bus passes under a flyover with a police escort but the police car in front of the bus nearly stops, making the bus brake hard and nearly stop, bringing it well below 50 mph.

Other mistake: When Harry has gone to the house of Dennis Hopper, he is able to move around as freely as any other member of the raid team. His limp appears to have disappeared completely, after having changed legs in the bar earlier in the movie.

Other mistake: During the scene where Jack and Annie escape from the bus using the hatch door on the bus floor, they lay on it sideways holding on to each other. If you had a chance to look at the bus from various other camera shots during the film the gap between the undercarriage and the runway was too small for them to do this, the rear bumper also seems to hang lower.

Other mistake: As Traven is about to slide under the bus on the small trolley, you can see his feet are only just going to get under the bus. Cut to a camera shot from the side, and now the front of the bus is significantly higher.

Other mistake: When Jack and Harry are going down the elevator rope to the freight elevator, in the shot that shows Jack sliding down the ropes, you can see that the roof ends at floor 23 or 24, but there are supposed to be 48 floors.

Other mistake: When the safety cable goes taut and stops the falling elevator, a woman standing in the corner is shown to fall through a hole in the floor. However, the hole in the floor was plainly visible in the bottom of the elevator as it was falling. As the hole was more than wide enough for the woman's legs to fall through, she couldn't have been standing in that corner as it was falling.

Suggested correction: No, however when the elevator stops, it does so with a massive thud. Easily enough to knock a woman off her balance to fall through the hole.

Character mistake: There is no way on earth that a police officer would shoot a hostage in the thigh to 'take them out of the equation'. Anyone who suggested such a thing would likely be taken out and shot themselves. Bullet wounds to the thigh are often fatal, as an injury to the femoral artery causes massive and frequently unstoppable blood loss. Breaking the femur often leads to fat embolisms as bone marrow gets into the bloodstream and then to the lungs. In fact a broken femur is a life threatening injury in itself, and a shattered femur - a typical bullet injury - would almost always result in a total amputation. You cannot aim carefully enough to avoid the bone or artery as their position in the body varies, (as will the bullet trajectory upon impact). Jack is an experienced cop and would know the potentially disastrous consequences of shooting someone in the thigh. He'd shoot him in the foot. (00:21:05)

Swat Cop: Anything else that'll keep this elevator from falling?
Jack: Yeah. The basement.

Trivia: When the bus crashes into the plane at the end, the company logo on the plane is "Pacific Courier." This fictional company name also appears in "Die Hard"--it's on the truck the terrorists show up in (except Karl and Theo, who arrive by car). Jan de Bont, who directed "Speed," was DP on "Die Hard."

Question: When they notice there's a gap in the freeway they keep to that route. However, there were other routes available. Why not take them?

Answer: If they had, there might have been the possibility that to get to these routes they would have to go down a different road and depending on which route they take they might have to slow down to make the turn which would likely cause the bus to drop below 50 mph. Better to just keep going straight and keep the bus going. There's also the possibility that had they taken a different route, they would have to deal with a lot of traffic especially if there was traffic stopped at a red light. By using the highway, there'd be no traffic lights and less traffic to deal with.
