Scream

Continuity mistake: When Randy is explaining the rules of a horror movie to the people at the party he pauses the movie and says "Jesus Christ you don't know the rules?" When the camera guy is in his van later we hear this audio again on the recorder but instead Randy just says "You don't know the rules." (01:13:00 - 01:14:00)

Continuity mistake: When Casey puts the two videos on top of the TV, she puts them on top of each other so they are placed neatly. Then when she picks up the letter opener off the TV later, the videos are no longer stacked neatly. (00:08:10)

Suggested correction: To be fair, we don't see (at least in the DVD version I am looking at?) the VHS boxes for the entirety of the time her hand is on it, and she does bump against the TV set at least twice while talking to the killer, once with the top of the set entirely off-camera.

Sammo

I would say it's a valid mistake because we do see a shot of the tapes later, and they're still neatly placed (for example, when she says her boyfriend will be there any second), so we know she didn't do anything to them when her hand was off camera. And I never saw any bump hard enough after her boyfriend is killed that would move the top case into the new position it's in.

Deliberate mistake: When Sidney is typing the message to the police, you can see that there are red lights flashing, which must mean the police are there, 5 seconds after she types. Obviously deliberately done for the humor. (00:29:30 - 00:30:25)

Suggested correction: Contrary to what the entry says, I don't see police lights flashing as she types, nor when she talks to Billy. I do agree that still it's barely a minute before the police arrive in full force on the scene and it's pretty ridiculous (although I am not sure it's deliberate humour).

Sammo

There's a time skip between Sidney encountering Dewey at the front door and Billy being arrested. It's plausible Tatum had sent Dewey to check on Sidney knowing she was going to be late, and so he arrived before the rest of the authorities. Billy did not chase after Sidney and likely reacted calmly to Dewey to look as innocent as he could, he wouldn't necessarily have been arrested right away.

TonyPH

I have to disagree; you see Dewey's car and another cop car with flashing lights the moment she opens the door, and he instantly calls the others in, so they are already there in full force because of the 911 call.

Sammo

Continuity mistake: When Randy explains the "Rules" to everyone and mentions the rule of no sex only two guys throw popcorn at him. Also they only throw one piece at a time, yet when Randy says "Big nono, big nono" you can see bucket loads of popcorn flying at him. (01:13:20)

Continuity mistake: At the party at Stu's house, when Dep. Dewey is walking through the house looking for the killer, Dewey walks into the living room with the TV and couch. Look at the TV, there is a white phone sitting right next to it. Later, when Sydney and Stu are fighting and she is about to push the TV on top of him, the white phone is gone. The TV also appears to be bigger. (01:40:40)

Other mistake: During Tatum's murder we see some problems exacerbate. The killers are not supposed to be invulnerable and are wearing a cheap costume, but they receive hard hits (Tatum breaks two bottles of beer, one straight to the face) and they don't have a single scratch. When she is killed, nobody hears her scream and nobody else needed to grab a beer either. Furthermore, Ghostface has the garage door fully open, but without knowing who is on the other side, that is one room away from the others, goes by the mysteriously unlocked door to the inside of the house. And we see Billy (who should be the killer there, since Stu was at the party) join in coming from outside.

Revealing mistake: Sidney is teasing Billy, and as a sort-of-reward to him she flashes him before he goes. That's the idea, but in the view from behind you can actually see through the nightie the shoulderstrap of a bra. (00:16:55)

Sammo

Suggested correction: Could she have had a bra that undoes at the front and quickly flashed him?

To actually answer the question; her hand is on full display, holding the nightie open. She'd still have to open the bra. You can technically argue that you can't see her other hand, which she could be simultaneously maneuver to pull down the cup of the bra and expose a nipple, since there's hardly any time to undo it fully and she'd have to fasten it back afterwards. Or that cupless bras exist. Truth is, she opens her casual, normal, comfy nightwear during the unexpected visit of her boyfriend, and the way the scene is shot leaves no room to interpretation.

Sammo

This is a question, not a correction.

Bishop73

Factual error: Throughout the movie there is constant reference to the Sheriff; Burke is the sheriff, Dewey works for the sheriff (and he will become the sheriff in Scream 4, with the same mistake happening), but the car Dewey uses is marked "Woodsboro Police."

Scream mistake picture

Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the movie as Ghostface chases Drew Barrymore the killer is wearing a different style of mask and even has a shiny silver material rather than black. As the killer then sits on top of her then choking her, it is the more recognisable mask.

leemurphy82

Continuity mistake: When Billy jumps on Sidney in the corridor making his comeback, a bag of potato chips that was lying against the bench's armrest goes from vertical to horizontal. It wouldn't be surprising that a small and possibly mostly empty bag would be toppled over considering the movement that just occurred, however when Sidney headshots Zombie Billy the bag is back being vertical. (01:41:20 - 01:42:30)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: In the close-up with Sid smashing the vase on Stu's head, her arm is bloodied all the way down to the elbow, while when she reached for the object the blood reached just about the wristwatch. (01:40:40)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: When Sidney bites Stu's hand, in close-up the wrist is well visible and displays the bracelet in full, but in the wider angle that section is entirely covered by the bloody sleeve. (01:40:35)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: Stu is slumping against the desk and says he's dying. In the closer angles you can see his left fingers are coated in blood, but in wider angles (for instance when Billy grabs the receiver off him and yells "I'm gonna rip you up, you b**ch"), the fingers are cleaner. (01:38:40)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: Finding out that the gun is gone, Stu whines "Houston, we've got a problem here." Sid in background turns towards him instantly, but she re-turns in the next shot. (01:36:35)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: Stu puts the voice box and the cellular phone inside the breast pocket of Sidney's father; the order is clear and visible even after Stu pushes the poor man to the ground; the white box is in front of the black phone. A minute later once they two-stooged their alibi we see again Mr. Prescott on the floor, and the two devices have swapped place in his pocket. (01:34:20 - 01:35:30)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: It's stabbing time for the two idiot killers; Stu is about to plunge his knife into Billy. Notice Matthew Lillard's necklace as he says "I'll remember"; it's above the sweater. Cut (camera cut, that is), and it's under the sweater. Next time we see it, back to a previous angle and to the necklace being above the sweater. (01:35:10)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: When Billy is taunting Sidney saying the game is called "guess how am I gonna die" he is holding the voice box in a different way between shots. (01:31:20)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: When Stu and Randy are begging Sidney at the front door accusing each other, Neve Campbell's hair is pressed against her body or on top of her right arm in different shots. (01:29:10)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: When Gale and Dewey nearly end up as roadkill for a bunch of teenagers who are really on a rush to go see Fonzie hanging by his entrails, Gail initially is on Dewey's right, and you can see Courteney Cox pulling David Arquette's right arm. The stuntpersons though are in a different position, the woman being on the left. (01:17:50)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: When Randy pauses Halloween to launch himself into the famous "rules to survive a horror movie" speech, look at the table. There are two bottles of beer, the leftmost one apparently still with a cap. You can still see it when everyone toasts to the "no drugs and booze" rule. But as he reaches the third rule, the "I'll be right back" one, that beer is gone, and Stu is leaving to get himself a new beer. (01:13:35)

Sammo

Randy: There are certain rules one must abide in order to sucuessfully survive a horror movie, rule number one, you can never have sex.
[Everyone jeers.]
Randy: Big no-no! Big no-no!
Stu: I'd be a dead man.
Randy: Rule number two, you can never drink or do drugs. [Everyone clacks their beers together.] It's the sin factor. An extension of number one. And number three, never, ever, under any circumstances say "I'll be right back." Because you won't be back.
Stu: Hey, I'm gettin' another beer, you want one?
Randy: Yeah, sure.
Stu: [Dramatically.] I'll be right back!
Randy: Yeah, you bent the rules. I'll see you in the kitchen with a knife.

Trivia: The murder of Principal Himbry was added after producer Bob Weinstein noticed there were about thirty pages in the script (which roughly translates to thirty minutes of screen time) in which nobody died. The scene also resolved the climax at Stu's party, as it gave all the guests a reason to leave.

Question: Is it true that near the end of the movie, Skeet Ulrich really cries out in pain (not acting), because Neve Campbell accidentally hit him in an area where he was once injured in real life?

Answer: This is according to IMDb: When Sidney comes out of the closet and stabs Billy with an umbrella, the stunt man was supposed to hit a pad on Skeet Ulrich's chest. The first hit got the pad but the second one slipped and hit him in the chest (you can see it in his reaction). Wes Craven kept it in because of its authenticity.

Shannon Jackson

Answer: Yes, confirmed by Wes Craven in the DVD commentary as well. Skeet Ulrich had open-heart surgery when he was 10 and there's a stainless steel wire in his chest that causes excruciating pain when touched. The stuntwoman was wearing the mask, which impairs vision quite a bit, and the second time around she really hit that sweet spot that caused the reaction you see in the movie.
