Factual error: In more than one scene you can hear the sounds of a steam locomotive chugging and blowing the whistle. Steam locos were almost entirely phased out by the early 60's, and none ran in Philadelphia at the time this movie was made.
Rocky (1976)
1 factual error
Directed by: John G. Avildsen
Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Burt Young, Burgess Meredith, Carl Weathers, Talia Shire
Other mistake: About half way through the movie, Adrian gives Rocky a dog (Butkus). The second time Rocky goes to the meatpacking plant, the dog is with him when he walks in, but he walks out alone and the dog is not seen again in this movie.
Suggested correction: How is this a mistake? Rocky could easily have left with the dog on another occasion. It's like saying, sometimes Rocky is shown in a location but it's never shown how he got there. That isn't a mistake, it's just what happens in films. Also, the dog not being seen again is irrelevant.
Trivia: Directors and producers never wanted Talia Shire to play Adrian because they felt she was too pretty to play a shy girl like her character. So she came to the interview dressed down and was awarded the part.
Question: When they promote the fight, why do they say January 1st is America's birthday?
Answer: They mean the entire year, 1976, is America's birth "day," being the bicentennial of the Declaration of Independence. So the fight, taking place on January 1, is the "first sporting event on our two hundredth birthday."
