Robocop
Robocop mistake picture

Visible crew/equipment: When Clarence Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith) is killed by Murphy (Peter Weller), Boddicker falls into the steel mill's water, blood spewing from his neck. Sharp eyes are required here to see that there is someone standing against the wall in the background... (01:32:40)

Revealing mistake: In the shot where Dick Jones is falling from the top of the OCP building, both of his arms appear to be about a foot longer than they should be. (01:36:30)

Visible crew/equipment: Robocop tries to arrest Dick Jones but fails, and an ED-209 is brought in to destroy Robocop. During their fight scene, it fires a missile at Robocop, and you can see the guide wire that the missile flies along (slo-mo helps but it's not necessary). (01:09:00)

Robocop trivia picture

Trivia: Director Paul Verhoven makes a cameo appearance in the film when RoboCop arrests Leon in the disco. After Leon kicks RoboCop in the groin and he falls in agony, we cut to a man laughing madly at the camera and waving his arms. That's Paul. (00:56:00)

Visible crew/equipment: When Clarence is racing away from Lewis near the end of the movie, the camera zooms in on Clarence driving the car and the camera men and camera truck are visible in the reflection of the car. (01:29:35)

Robocop mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Robocop looks up his old address, his house number is the 500's on Primrose Street, but when he drives by the sign on his street it says he is in the 3000's section. (00:54:15)

Robocop mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Robocop is at OCP trying to save "the old man," Jones is wearing a black suit while he is holding him hostage. After he releases him (as Robocop shoots him) the suit is grey, then turns black again as he crashes through the window and falls to his death. (01:35:30)

Robocop mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When the bearded man is robbing the convenience store, he demands that the owner opens the safe. Look at the Lite cans on the safe. When seen from the right, there are four cans. When the owner kneels down to try and open it, there are now three. When we cut back to a view from the right there are again four. Finally when the robber is shooting at Robocop there are only two. Continuity mistake: Right after Sergeant Reed has removed Fredrickson's sign from the locker and says "Murphy, front and center," you see two men standing behind Murphy. When it cuts, only one of the men are behind him. (00:04:55)

Factual error: The film takes place in Detroit, but it is glaringly obvious that it was shot in Dallas. First of all, in the early scene where Murphy chases Boddicker's gang on the highway, Reunion Tower, one of Dallas's most famous landmarks, is visible in the background. Much of Dallas's skyline is also visible in the final scene where Robocop confronts Dick Jones in the OCP boardroom. (00:15:15)

Continuity mistake: In the beginning when the tracking device is shown, the dot is red and the building outlines are orange. When Dick Jones is holding it later, the dot is white and the outlines are red. (00:30:20 - 01:08:05)

Robocop mistake picture

Revealing mistake: When Robocop is completed and they are going over his gear, they show a tracker that shows his location at all times. The tracking unit is obviously fake; the street layout is a decal and the "blip" that is Robocop is in a fixed position. (00:30:20)

Robocop mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When the guy holding the mayor hostage gets thrown out of the window, we see the only two TV cameras near the location follow his fall down to the ground. A few seconds later on the news though, the footage is the same shot we saw in the film, staying focused on the window. (00:39:55)

Continuity mistake: When Bob is reaching for the grenade on the table, we can see that there is cocaine all over the table, when the camera view changes to Dick's face on the TV and back again to the table, it's clean. (00:58:48)

Trivia: ED-209's voice is provided by producer Jon Davison. He was recorded as a placeholder, but the filmmakers kept it for the theatrical release. ED-209's roar is a jaguar growl played backwards.

Question: Other than serving the plot, why were so many elements of his former life left in the now-vacant home? All evidence of the former family would have been removed before showing it to prospective buyers.

Movie Nut

Answer: I'm watching it on the computer right now and it says "for sale" not sold, who says everything must be removed prior to selling? I'm not American so it may differ from country to country, but I've been to houses for sale during "inspection dates" and some houses STILL have items not removed probably because they are still living in them or still in the midst of alternate living options, some might need the money of the sale JUST so they can move remember his wife is a widow now and probably can't afford living there no more, where is she gonna get the money to move? Also not all houses I've seen had stuff removed (some did) during my house tours p.s Her husband was gunned down so she can't bare to remove anything yet, but her life is destroyed so she might as well put the house up for sale.

Chosen answer: There is no reason except that it is to serve the plot. Normally everything would have been removed by the time the house was put up for sale, but there needs to be some means for Murphy to connect to his past. This is achieved by showing physical objects from his former life to trigger his memory, creating sympathy for the character. This can be considered suspension of disbelief where the audience just accepts something is out of the ordinary for the sake of the story being told.
