Pulp Fiction

Continuity mistake: At Jackrabbit Slim's, when Mia gets her milkshake, she plays with her straw. Between shots she goes from holding the straw with her right hand to her left hand. (00:38:45)

Continuity mistake: When Mia and Vincent arrive at Jackrabbit Slims, they stand in front of a desk and confirm their booking. Throughout her exchange with the 'greeter', Mia's fringe is swept to the side, looks a bit greasy, and is separated. When they go to walk to their table in the next shot, it's suddenly perfect and covering her whole forehead. (00:41:10)

Continuity mistake: At Jackrabbit Slims the red ketchup bottle on the diner table moves about five times between different shots. Sometimes it's behind Mia's milkshake, sometimes it's out on the table, right beside Mia. (00:41:25 - 00:44:45)

Visible crew/equipment: When Vince and Mia get back from Jack Rabbit Slims, and Mia is putting on the music, the shadow of a person walks past her on her left, but Vince is standing still in that scene. (00:48:35)

Suggested correction: I've viewed this mistake many times. What really happened here was Vince actually turned and walked down the hall to take the piss and what we are seeing is HIS shadow as he walks toward an over-lit backdrop. Then to make it worse the producers place him right back at the spot with his keys in hand and a softer lighting to make it look more romantic. So the real mistake could be when they made that sudden change without reviewing enough of the previous entry scene. (Either way you can still barely see how he turns to his right before walking casually down the hall).

Continuity mistake: After returning from Jackrabbit Slims, Vincent goes to the toliet and Mia puts on some music, then sits on the couch. In one closeup of Mia, she takes a cigarette and puts it in her mouth, and you can see she isn't wearing Vincent's grey jacket. Then when it cuts to a wider shot of her lighting the cigarette, the jacket has appeared on her. (00:50:25)

Mortug

Continuity mistake: After Mia has recovered from the overdose, Vincent carries her to her house. As they are walking in the small alley, the camera shows Vincent saying, "If Marcellus lives his whole life he doesn't need to know about this incident," and he opens his arms. In the next shot we can see Vincent from the back and he has his arms in a different position. (00:59:10)

Continuity mistake: When Vincent takes Mia home after giving her the shot, Vincent and Mia talk, then Mia finally tells Vincent the Fox Force Five joke. Before and while she tells the joke, in every shot behind her, her arms are down by her sides, yet in every front view of her, her arms are folded, or one arm is up by her mouth. (00:59:50)

Audio problem: After reviving Mia with an adrenaline shot, Vincent collapses onto the carpet. We can hear him say, "Oh man" but his lips are actually forming different words. (01:00:55)

Continuity mistake: In the flashback with Christopher Walken, we see him hold up the watch, and its hands are clearly pointing in different directions. But when we see a close-up of the watch, it is set to 12. (01:04:20)

Deliberate mistake: When Butch is riding in the taxi and smoking, the cigarette smoke is lazily drifting out of the window of the vehicle. If they were traveling at any real speed (i.e. not on a set with a movie screen behind it) their smoke would be ripped out of the taxi by the wind. Also, when he tosses out some of his stuff you can hear it hit the wooden floor of the stage. (01:12:28)

Continuity mistake: After Fabienne asks Butch about his hard day at the office, Butch turns away from the hotel room window and starts walking towards the bed. But in the next shot his head is facing the window once again. (01:15:55)

Continuity mistake: When Butch is getting dressed in the motel room, Fabienne is sitting on bed telling him what she will order for breakfast. As she tells him, in a front shot of her, her right arm is down and her right hand is resting on her ankles. It then cuts to a behind shot of her and her head is now resting on her right hand. (01:20:45)

Continuity mistake: While scoping out his apartment, Butch walks into the kitchen for toaster pastries. In between shots, his right hand shifts from holding the cabinet door open to grabbing pastries, then back to holding the door again. (01:30:45)

Continuity mistake: In the pawn shop, Butch punches Marcellus in the head several times then grabs him by both shoulders. But after Marcellus says, "You better kill me," the shot changes and now Butch suddenly has his fist clenched again. (01:36:15)

Continuity mistake: When the camera is focused on Marcellus and Butch tied up in the pawn shop's basement, Zed and Maynard walk past. Between shots, Maynard's shotgun changes hands. (01:38:45)

Vincent: Jules, if you give that fuckin' nimrod fifteen hundred dollars, I'm gonna shoot him on general principles.

Question: What exactly does the title of this film mean? Is there even an answer to that?

Sir William

Chosen answer: It is a reference to a class of fast-paced, sensationalistic, and frequently exploitive stories published in cheap magazines from the 1920's through the 1950's. They were called 'pulp' because of the cheap quality of the paper they were printed on, as opposed to the 'slicks' which were more like full-color magazines of today.
