Best action movie mistakes of 2006
Plot hole: There are six metal bars mounted around the circumference of the water wheel's axle. In the wheel's interior, when Jack frees himself he lands on his feet, begins to run and promptly hits his head on one of those axle bars, then falls out. Moments later, when Jack returns and runs in the wheel, he is shorter (way more than a foot) than all six spinning axle bars, which would make that previous shot impossible, however humorous it is.

Factual error: After the ship capsized, the engines (and generators) could not have continued to run inverted due to lubrication and fuel delivery problems. Engines can not run upside down as they will fail due to lack of lubricant, since the pickups are at the bottom. Same for fuel - most fuel pickups are near the bottom of the tank so you can use the full capacity of the tank. With the ship upside down these pickups would fail. Even if battery power could run some emergency lights for a while, there would have been nothing to supply the massive energy needed to run the bow thrusters.
Visible crew/equipment: When Lois pulls up to the house where the blackout was traced to, she hears some music coming from the boat down at the dock. As the camera pans upwards over the car, as she steps out, the whole camera and a crew member are reflected in the side of the car.
Plot hole: The snakes are contained in the cargo hold which is shown to be unpressurised on this aircraft (there is an altimeter which releases the snakes after it hits 35000 feet - if the hold was pressurised it would level off at cabin pressure, which is about 8,000 feet). A cargo door is left open to allow the snakes into the passenger compartment, but this would either cause the plane to not pressurise properly, causing everyone on board severe breathing problems if not worse, or would keep the hold at cabin pressure, meaning the altimeter would never reach the right level to release the snakes.
Factual error: During the big sacrifice scene an eclipse happens. An eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the earth and the sun. Later, apparently that night, the night mood is set by a shot of a full moon. The moon cannot be full until fourteen days after an eclipse, when it is directly opposite the sun.
Continuity mistake: When Leonidas, and presumably all the other Spartans, use their spears to clear their shields of arrows after the arrow shower from Persian archers, the tips of the arrows are still visibly left on all their shields. In the next shot, when the Spartans regroup for the Persian cavalry charge, the arrow tips are gone. (Granted, this is a highly stylized movie based on a comic book, but that does not change the fact that this is a continuity error.)
Factual error: As the two fast boats start heading up river towards the finale shootout, one boat has its navigation lights reversed. It has a red light on the starboard/right side, and a green light on the port/left side. It should be the other way around. (The lights on the other boat are correct.)
Revealing mistake: When the Bronco is underwater at the end of the movie, Claire's hands are tied to the steering wheel. Doug rips the steering wheel off. Anyone who has worked on cars knows you need a puller to get a steering wheel off. Also, the steering wheel is gone when Claire swims to the surface.
Continuity mistake: When Ryan Reynolds is between the two hospital beds, preparing to pull the plugs, there are three wires he grabs to our left (two white and one black). He yanks all of them out (along with another white one to our right) and no plugs remain in the red outlet cover on the wall. But in close ups, as the other agents are banging on the door, we see the lone black wire is still plugged in.
Continuity mistake: After Marcus kills Kraven, we cut back to Selene and Michael. As he talks about her saving his life and that how everything has changed, part of Selene's fringe switches from hanging in front of her face to tucked to the side between shots. In the closeup shots it hangs in front of her face and in the wide shots it is tucked to the side.
Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where the Humvee pulls up at the checkpoint - two chocks are visible by the front tyres. They're not part of the roadblock - a couple of bits of plywood wouldn't stop even a determined Mini. Most likely, they're simply chocks to make sure the Humvee hits its mark.
Factual error: When Hope is driving the pickup in the car chase, she yanks the parking brake, causing a tank of propane to fly out the tailgate and into the car that is chasing her. This is completely impossible. The tank would have slid in the other direction (forward) and slammed into the back of the cab when she slowed down.
Factual error: When the Marines strip off and run into the sea in the final scene, Doc takes off a pair of white socks that would be more appropriate for a final at Wimbledon. Not only are they white rather than khaki, they are virtually spotlessly clean which would be impossible after a week of fighting on the black sands of Iwo Jima.
