The Terminator picture

Question: How exactly do both the Terminator and Kyle find addresses? We are led to believe that is the reason for the phone books, but none of the addresses in the phone books match up to the addresses where either the first Sarah is killed, nor the apartment of our Sarah.

Answer: The phone books are the reason for finding Sarah Conner. The Terminator didn't know what Sarah looked like or where she lived so he looked in there and when he saw three Sarah Conners listed, he was in Kyle's own words, "being systematic." In other words, going to each of the addresses listed for Sarah Conner and killing the women whose name were a match for his primary target. Kyle already knew what Sarah looked like as he was given a photo of her by Johnn Conner but, just like the Terminator, didn't know where she lived so he used a phone book to locate and protect her.

The Karate Kid picture

Question: Johnny mentions something about ex-degenerate. I was just curious, what exactly was he talking about?

Socks1000

Chosen answer: He's basically saying that he's going to go "straight-edge" and stop drinking, partying etc. He's going to buckle down and be good. Most likely to win Allie back.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom picture

Question: Why did Spielberg make Temple of Doom a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark? I read somewhere that he didn't want to make the Nazis the villains again, but that wouldn't be a problem since the Nazis never went to India or China.

MikeH

Chosen answer: It was actually George Lucas who wrote the story, made it a prequel, and has stated it was because he didn't want the Nazis to be the villains again. The idea most likely seems if it wasn't a prequel, the Nazis could still be after Jones, even in China or India. But alas, there is really no other insight as to Lucas' prequel decision.

Romancing the Stone picture

Question: What is it likely that the stone (an emerald, I gather) was worth in 1984 US dollars?

Answer: Any emerald over 1 carat in that beautiful cut and condition would probably go for over 250 million. Real emeralds over 5 carats are rare and the price goes up exponentially after 2 or 3 carats. 305,000 per carat after 5. So yeah that one was probably like 800 or more carats.

A Nightmare on Elm Street picture

Question: Why did Freddy's voice change? At the start of the film when he was chasing Tina, he said, "This is god," but throughout the rest of the film (and the series of the films) his voice went deeper. You have to kind of listen carefully throughout the film to know what I'm talking about.

Answer: The scene you are referring to is a dream sequence. In dreams everything is different and how they change throughout the movie is no mistake.

Footloose picture

Question: When Ren is driving with his friends at night, he is told about the circumstances behind the death of Ariel's brother. It was quite clear that it was driving while under the influence of alcohol that was responsible for his death so why blame it on playing loud music?

Answer: The belief was that rock and roll was the root cause of the accident. The adults who supported the ban believed that rock and roll influenced the teens to do things they wouldn't normally do, such as drinking and driving.

BaconIsMyBFF

Answer: One of the kids answers the question during the conversation by saying something along the lines of there's three things involved, and the adults didn't wanna get rid of two of 'em, which left dancing/music.

Gremlins picture

Question: I have the original VHS version and I've noticed that some cuss words have dubbed over on the DVD. Yet The original VHS is still rated PG any reason why, other than the fact to make it more of a family film.

Answer: The original film was released before the PG-13 rating existed (it was one of the films responsible for its creation). Producers decided to remove some of the language and violence for the DVD release to avoid complaints about the PG rating.

Top Secret! picture

Question: How exactly did they make the whole underwater fight scene work?

Sir William

Chosen answer: The actors were weighted down with lead plates. Oxygen tanks were kept just out of picture, and the actors used them to breathe between takes. The takes were short enough to allow the actors to hold their breath through them. The short takes were then cut together to appear as one long fight. Sound effects were added post-production.

Question: In Dana's bedroom, after she's possessed, there's a picture next to her bed. Is that Reagan from The Exorcist?

Answer: I watched clips from both movies to compare the images. The picture of the little girl next to Dana's bed looks a little like Regan from the Exorcist, but the hair styles are different enough to conclude that it is not. Regan had longer and straighter hair while the girl in the photo has shorter and bushier locks.

Places In The Heart picture

Question: What is the symbolizim of the church at the end of the film? Could it be Heaven? but if you actually believe in Heaven then you might not think that some of those people will be going there. Another possibility is that it could be, well, places in the heart.

Answer: I think the church represents three things: one, showing that we're all one with God, whether we're alive or dead. Two, that those that have died are still in the memories of those that are living (places in the heart). And three, forgiveness, as shown in the last shot with Mr. Spaulding and the kid who killed him.

2010 picture

Question: In the original film, the Discovery's onboard computer states: "I am a HAL 9000 Computer, Production Number 3. I became operational at the HAL plant in Urbana, Illinois, on the 12th of January, 1992." So, "HAL" was a manufacturer identification prefix (standing for Heuristically-programmed ALgorithmic Computers), "9000" was its model number, and "No.3" was its production lineage. In this sequel, however, Dr. Chandra is chatting with one of HAL's earth-based twin computers which has a feminine voice and is called "SAL"; but how can they arbitrarily change its manufacturer identification prefix? Being produced by the HAL plant in Urbana, Illinois, and being identical to the computer aboard the Discovery, the twin's name should have a different production number, but it should still be called "HAL," should it not?

Charles Austin Miller

Answer: The most likely reason the name was changed was probably a literary one. It makes it easier for the audience to differentiate SAL from HAL, showing how they are two distinct computers playing different roles in the film. It may also just be a feminine nickname being that SAL has a female voice.

Question: Why did Mahoney get a medal at the end? All he did was run up a building and got himself taken hostage. Hightower deserved his cause he knocked the guy out, saved Harris and Mahoney and defused the situation. Even if it was for bravery or heroism, Mahoney achieved nothing with his actions and shouldn't have been rewarded.

Gavin Jackson

Chosen answer: Just because you fail in your attempt at heroics doesn't mean you weren't brave as hell for trying. Mahoney knowingly put himself in a very dangerous situation with the sole intent of saving two of his fellow officers. That's bravery.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter picture

Question: As Jason's body is being brought into the hospital, the camera focuses on a room with a crying girl, and presumably her parents, her face is obscured so who is this suppose to be? Is it suppose to be Chris from the last movie?

Answer: The way I look at it there's more than one possibility: 1. The crying relatives are totally unrelated, so to speak, to the events of the film. B) they are relatives of one of the victims, be it Andy or Debbie or Shelly. The girl does not look like Chris from part 3.

Alan Keddie

Answer: The original idea for this one was Jason causing havoc in a hospital and I think Chris was supposed to come back, so your guess is as good as mine.

Dune picture

Question: Admittedly the sound on my copy of this movie is lacking somewhat but when Paul is researching Arrakis and Gurney et all enter I swear I can hear the trailer for the movie playing in the background. Am I correct on this?

Answer: No. At least, not on the DVD I have. It does play the title tune in the background, though.

Zaphod Beeblebrox

Answer: The beginning narration is playing softly, as if it's coming from whatever computer Paul was doing research on. Like he was watching a movie about the world he is living in, which is sort of odd.
