Continuity mistake: It is stated that Phil and Claire didn't have a wedding, and just went to the courthouse to get married, but in episode 1x08, Great Expectations, Phil says he's pretty sure he sang "If you leave" by O.M.D. at their wedding.

Continuity mistake: Phil is holding a plate with a red napkin on it while he speaks with Cam and Mitch, then after a camera change, the napkin is hanging on his left hand beneath the plate. After another camera change the napkin appears over his plate again. (00:00:50)
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Claire and Manny are discussing how they are brother and sister, Claire is placing cookies on a cooling rack from top to bottom. When the shot changes they are now placed left to right.
Continuity mistake: When Cameron runs into Jay and his friends, Shorty initially has his hands in his pockets, but then his hands are out in front of him, holding a cup of coffee. (00:01:25)

Revealing mistake: When Lily hits Mitchell in the face, her 'arm' is covered by a pyjama-like material, but the next shot shows her wearing a sleeveless dress, showing her 'arm' was really a padded stick.

Continuity mistake: When Dylan arrives at the Pritchett family dinner, and Phil notices that he brought his guitar, Dylan's gig bag switches shoulders between shots.

Continuity mistake: When Claire is talking to Phil about having Cam's baby, she grabs a coffee cup out of the cabinet. In the next shot she grabs the same cup out of the cabinet again. (00:13:10)
Continuity mistake: When Jay is talking with his brother and finds out about his brother's cancer, he is holding a glass of scotch with a tiny bit of ice. When his brother approaches him the glass now just has ice with no scotch. We don't see the glass for a short period before he is about to sit in his chair and spills the contents of the glass, which now has the scotch and ice again.
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Luke gets his new bike when Phil places the helmet on Luke's head the strap is not buckled up, but when the shot changes back and forth again it's buckled up and fastened. (00:05:05)
Plot hole: Luke says they received a red light ticket in the mail from the time he stole a car, but it was Cameron's car he stole. (00:21:25)
Continuity mistake: The scene in which the whole family were mud-fighting. Just after the camera man says "Excuse me, are we still doing this" look at Manny's shirt. It just has a small mud stain on the pocket, but as the scene continues the stain looks different with no reason and there is suddenly mud on Manny's face too.
The Incident - S1-E4
Visible crew/equipment: At the start of the episode, Hayley and Luke begin fighting on the couch, and Hayley's filming equipment becomes visible. (01:14:00)
Continuity mistake: In episode 8-20: All Things Being Equal, while Lily is going to a feminist protest with Claire, Gloria, Haley, and Alex, Alex said something like 'The women burnt their bras', and Lily says 'Not me, I just got my first bra'. But in this episode Lily steals a bra because she's embarrassed to ask Mitchell and Cam to buy one for her.
Revealing mistake: While Phil and Claire are racing each other to Manny's birthday dinner, each car goes around corners, but the steering wheels are never turned.
Continuity mistake: When Cam is talking to Lily, the doorknob looks like it's loose, and in the next shot it is fixed. (00:19:49)
Visible crew/equipment: After Cam's really long drum moment, when it cuts to Gloria, Jay, and Manny entering their house, the reflections of the moving boom pole/mic and a crew member are visible on the window. (00:15:50)
Visible crew/equipment: When Manny gets done with the dentist Jay convinces him to go to the movies, and as they leave the office we can see the reflection of the boom pole/mic on the receptionist's glass window, at the top, left side of the screen. (00:01:40)

Answer: Mitch is upset that his dad doesn't seem to support his getting married. When they talk about Jay's friends not coming to the wedding, Jay makes it seem like Mitch wouldn't want them to come anyways. Mitch sees it as it's actually that Jay doesn't want to invite his friends to his gay son's wedding because he's embarrassed and uncomfortable about having a gay son. Essentially Mitch sees it as if he was marrying a woman, Jay would be willing so spend money on the wedding, host it at the club, and invite all his friends to it.
