In shots of Amy, the glass is first absent, then Amy reaches over, grabs it and takes a sip before resting it on the table with her hand holding the stem, whereas her hand is in her lap in shots of River. Chosen answer: The Master knows that deep down, he deserves death for the crimes that he's committed throughout his life, and since he regards The Doctor as his arch-foe, he expects it to be at his hands.
