Question: Is the story in this movie suppose to be leading up to the first Alien movie?
Chosen answer: Not really. Ridley Scott wanted to explore a different story line set apart from the original Alien series. There are connections between the two, and they share the same universe but they are in different time periods, and the prequel is following its own mythology. There could be a link by the end of the new series, but that remains to be seen.

Question: Does the doctor know that there are 3 murderers among Rivers' personalities? he tells Rivers that the killer cannot survive, who's to say it's Timmy that committed the real murders? Ray Liota and his "prisoner" were also murderers.
Chosen answer: Ray Liotta and his prisoner were not real killers. They were only murderers in Rivers' mind. The journal that Rivers kept in the hand of all his personalities would have given the doctor insight into what Liotta and his prisoner were like in his patient's mind.

Question: In the scene where the doctor shows Rivers his real face in the mirror, why is he so shocked? I mean, if Edward is not real, how could Edward know what his own face looks like? (As in John Cusack's face).
Chosen answer: Because he believes he looks like the John Cusack character. When he looks into the mirror, he sees a completely different face.

Chosen answer: Probably because Cusack interrupted Colm Meaney in the first place. Also he probably knew Cusack would lie about whatever excuse he gave.

Question: In the scene where Mr. Orange, Mr. Pink, Mr. White and Nice Guy Eddie are driving to the meeting, Nice Guy Eddie calls Steve Buscemi "Mr. Pink." How did Nice Guy Eddie know that his name was going to be Mr. Pink before they went to the meeting?
Chosen answer: Joe is his father. They probably planned the crime together.
Yes, but why didn't Mr. Pink respond to that? At that time, Mr. Pink didn't know that his name was going to be Mr. Pink. If someone suddenly and unexpectedly gives you a name like that, wouldn't you be surprised?
He could have already been told that it was going to go like that so that he wouldn't tell Mr. White or Mr. Orange his name, and then once it was brought up at the meeting, he asked why he had to be that color.
Answer: Or, Why was he shocked to find out he is Mr. Pink later on if he was cool with it in the car?
Sounds like it was just a blooper/mistake.

Question: Bill tells Kiddo that Pai Mei teaches "no one" the five point palm heart exploding technique, yet he teaches Kiddo, why?
Chosen answer: He probably trusted Kiddo more then his other students that she would never use it unless necessary.
Also I think that a man of Pei Mei's infinite wisdom (and old age) would have sensed that his end was near. Knowing that and given that Beatrix was his most determined and driven student who completely submitted to his teachings... He trusted her and knew she would never abuse his power. So he passed them down to her. Thus, the White Lotus would live on in her. Brilliant.

Question: Why does Wallace spit out the pain killer that the princess gives him?
Chosen answer: Just like he said, it would dull his wits and not leave him fully lucid the next day when he had to face the torture.
He wanted his full awareness so he didn't accidentally yell for mercy.
Answer: Because it's a reference to what his Father's last words to him were at the beginning of the film before he was killed, 'I know you can fight but it's our wits that makes us men'. That's why Wallace says to the Princess, 'It will dull my wits and I must have them always'.

Chosen answer: Regan did (as the demon). It was just meant to be a desecration.
Answer: The desecration in the church added grotesque, pointed breasts and a pointed penis to a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, smeared with red paint to resemble blood. Lieutenant William Kinde later realised that these grisly appendages were made of sculpting clay and paint of the same type that Regan used in her artwork.

Question: I've had arguments with one of my friends about this line in the film when Scarface says "the only thing in this world that gives orders is balls", my friend thinks he says "the only thing in this world that gives orders is BOSS" (which wouldn't make much sense). What does he say, balls or boss?
Chosen answer: You are correct. It's balls. You can find it in the script.
Answer: The official script says "Boss". It's a reference to Frank Lopez not being Tony's boss anymore. "Balls" is completely incorrect and out of context.

The Terminator (1984)
Question: When John Connor sends Kyle Reese back in time to protect his mother, Reese then becomes Connor's father, how could John Connor be the same person he is if a different man's sperm produced him?
Chosen answer: The whole thing's a paradox, which, as time travel doesn't exist, we have no way to determine how it would work out in reality, and thus any movie dealing with time travel can make up its own rules. Effectively an infinite loop has been set up - Sarah gives birth to John, John grows up, meets Kyle, sends Kyle back to meet Sarah, they make love, Sarah gives birth to John and so on and so on. There may have been an original father to John at the beginning, but he was supplanted in the loop by Kyle and thus, in the timeline the film presents, the John who sent Kyle back is the one fathered by Kyle himself. Alternatively, maybe John Connor wasn't the original resistance leader, that some other leader sent Kyle back the first time, leading to the birth of John Connor, who then became the resistance leader instead; thus Kyle has always been John's father. This is the nature of a paradox, that there are things about the situation that don't necessarily seem to fit together, but they somehow come about anyway. The detail can be debated ad infinitum, but no concrete conclusion can be drawn, because that's just how this works.

Question: Who was John Connor's father before he sent Kyle Reese back in time to protect his mother?
Chosen answer: Kyle was. It's a paradox, an infinite loop; Kyle goes back, fathers a son who later meets the younger Kyle and sends him back to father a son who later meets the younger Kyle... etc. etc. There are no hard and fast rules governing this sort of thing, so there doesn't necessarily have to have been an original father who kicked the whole thing off before being supplanted by Kyle. Or maybe there was. Or maybe there was originally a different resistance leader who sent Kyle back, leading to the birth of John who became resistance leader instead. This sort of thing can be debated until the cows come home, but ultimately the only answer is "it's a paradox".

Question: How is Kyle Reese younger than John Connor in this movie? I thought Reese was Connor's father.
Chosen answer: It's explained in the original "The Terminator" - Kyle Reese volunteers to be sent back to the 80s to protect John's mother Sarah, before John is born. They get romantically involved and he fathers John in that time period.

Question: Why does it say "A Band Apart" in the credits at the start of almost every Quentin Tarantino movie? and why is there a picture of 4 guys wearing black suits, like the characters in Reservoir Dogs?
Chosen answer: A Band Apart is Tarantino's production company. It uses the Reservoir Dogs characters as a logo because it was Tarantino's debut movie.
Answer: A Band Apart could also be a reference or tribute to Jean-Luc Godard's film Bande à part.

Trivia: There is a piece of music which plays for a split second when the camera is looking down on the Bride's body in the church. That exact same piece of music is also heard for a split second in Reservoir Dogs when Mr. Blond is flicking through the radio stations (right before he tortures the cop) looking for K. Billy's super sounds of the 70s.

Question: Does anybody know why Bud is so poor, living in a trailer and working as a bouncer? Should he not be rich from being an assassin? Also, Bill looks rich enough, and Bud is his brother; why doesn't he give Bud some money?
Chosen answer: Bud has been done with the assassin life for some time. Given that he's a bouncer/janitor at a bad strip club, it's quite likely he made poor decisions with whatever money he had. As for Bill giving him money, it's certainly possible that either Bill cut him off or that Bud refused Bill's help.
