Looking for a game I think might have been for PS1 or PS2. A guy is sitting in his office when he hears two gunshots. When he runs outside, he sees his wife and daughter have been murdered. A woman sees him standing over their bodies and starts screaming. The guy hijacks a car and drives after the car he saw leaving the area. Don't know anything that was said because the language had been switched from English to some other language.

Answer: This sounds like the PS2 game The Getaway (set in London), with a few differences: Mark Hammond is lying in bed when his wife is shot and his son is abducted by the Bethnal Green mob. A woman walks round the corner and sees him standing over his dying wife and start screaming. He hijacks a car and pursues the criminals who kidnapped his son.

That's the game. Thanks.

There was a man in midlife crisis or something like it, but he finds a portal to a parallel universe which is still living in the Roman Empire. Also the portal is his refrigerator door. So the plot is how he becomes a new ruler of the Empire because he's the smartest man there, while he has relationship problems with his wife in his small apartment.

Answer: Sounds like the French film "Les Deux Mondes" (Two Worlds).

I remember a movie about an African American female ice skater. The movie started off when she was a child, and she was paired with a male ice skater during a recital. These two ended up skating together all the way up until adulthood. One day during practice the female skater was dropped and fell on the ice and ended up getting some really serious injuries, that affected her career. I think she ended up trying to commit suicide, Does anybody remember the name of this movie? I think it was The (insert ice skater whose name I can't remember) Story.

movielover1

Chosen answer: This is almost certainly "On Thin Ice: The Tai Babilonia Story" (1990).

General questions

I remember seeing part of a live action movie on TV that showed a puppy playing with an old woman who lived on the street and she later dies from an illness. The puppy also has dreams of a past life, and later joins with an older dog and he grows up with him in a junkyard. When he is all grown up he attacks a man for stepping on his tail and the man takes his revenge on him by kidnapping him and taking him to a place where he is used in some sort of a test. I didn't watch the rest of the movie after that because it bothered me so much. Can anyone tell me what this movie was called?

Answer: This is Fluke (1995), starring Matthew Modine at the voice of Fluke the dog.

General questions

There was a film, I can't remember what it was called but it's most likely from the 1970s but may have been a B-Movie or a TV movie. It featured a bomb on an airplane that would explode if the plane's altitude dropped below a certain level, but they only find out about it once they're in the air above that level. When the fuel in the airplane runs low the pilot eventually works out that he can (and does) land at an airport that is above that altitude and the bomb turns out to be in his briefcase that he's had all along in the cabin.

Neil Jones

Chosen answer: This is "The Doomsday Flight", a 1966 TV movie written by Rod Serling of Twilight Zone fame.

Looking for the title and actors in a 50's something TV show / movie about a guy in advertising or marketing who had to deliver a marketing plan, but had nothing. A word in a newspaper caught his eye and he started building upon it, without any idea of what product he could market on that lead. The strict, blue-eyed, blond iceberg of a career woman who had to work with him, despised him because, knowing he was a big player, she guessed that he had nothing. In the end he worked towards a secretive product that he revealed to the company as sweets filled with liquor. After tasting too much, the woman ended up in his apartment, wearing only his light blue pajama jacket the next morning, furious with him. In the end he and a hastily commandeered preacher caught up with her while she was rushed towards a hospital labor room on a trolley; the preacher sputtered the holy matrimony questions and the woman, still furious, screamed a pain filled "Y-e- s!" before disappearing into the labor room with the doors closing behind the trolley and nurses and doctor. So funny! I need a good laugh so I need to lay my hands on this movie. Title please?

Is there a scene in a movie where people disguise themselves as firemen and they set a fire in a building so they can get inside? I've been told it is Mission: Impossible but I am not sure.

selbywes

Chosen answer: There could be other movies where this happens, but it does happen in the first Mission: Impossible film when Ethan Hunt's team infiltrates CIA headquarters at Langley. According to this site though, the CIA has its own firefighting unit and does not call in external firefighters, so this wouldn't happen.

In terms of TV series, what exactly is a serial? Like old TV series including the 1943 Batman and the 1949 Batman and Robin TV serials. Both are 15 episodes. So what's the difference between a TV series and serial?

Quantom X

Chosen answer: Episodes of a series are more self-contained, and while they may have an over-arching continuity or arc, each episode is a fairly self-contained linear story (examples "Quantum Leap", "Doctor Who", "Star Trek"). In a serial, several parallel storylines flow from one episode to the next, such as in soap operas ("Days of Our Lives", "Neighbours", "EastEnders"). Also, in the UK/Commonwealth, the term series is often used to refer to US seasons (eg. "series 3 of Friends"), so serial may mean any kind of narrative TV series to distinguish it from a single season/series. Early serials were shown in theatres, sometimes in addition to films, but sometimes as the feature. When TV was introduced, the entertainment industry transferred this type of regular-viewer activity to TV, to keep the regular viewers interested in the new technology.

Wondering what a late 80's American TV movie was. It had 3 or 4 cowboys that somehow were in the future (The 80's) They would fight for good and said some ridiculous line "like smooth a silk to the hilt" or something similar when they were going to gun fight. I remember it being ridiculous but funny.

Answer: This was "Outlaws", a CBS series which ran for 12 episodes from late 1986 to 1987. IMDb has a catchphrase in the quotes section which ends in "...to the hilt."

I saw a trailer a few years ago for a movie that looked interesting but I've forgotten the title. All I remember is that it was vaguely steampunky and/or futuristic and a sniper seemed to play an important part (who maybe wore a mask/goggles?). Fairly sure it was live action - sorry it's so vague, but maybe it'll ring a bell for someone.

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: Probably "Franklyn" from 2008 - Ryan Philippe plays Preest, a masked detective with a steampunk-style sniper rifle.

15 years ago I watched a movie. It was funny and little bit of a survival movie. I don't know the name but some scenes I remember. A man and woman go for a journey somewhere in a private airplane. Their airplane got stuck in the trees. When the fuelling of the plane was finished then the man used his wine as the fuel. When the man was hungry, he stole an ostrich's egg and the ostrich ran toward him. A Mongoose bit the wheel of the airplane and punctured it.
