Question: I have never understood why Luke and Leia needed to be hidden with two different families. As a princess, Leia is actually in the public eye. It would have been much safer to let Owen and Beru raise her along with Luke. Why keep them apart?

Answer: Nobody knew Luke and Leia were alive, most did not know they existed, others thought they were dead. If someone with the name of Skywalker were around, it could be anyone. Aunt Uncle, Cousin, not necessarily the Skywalker. Besides, the Empire was busy fighting and maintaining control of an entire Galaxy.
It certainly could be a popular name, but it is still tempting fate since this particular Skywalker is being raised by Anakin's step-brother. A step-brother that Anakin is not only aware of but has personally met. Also, once Vader finds out that the pilot who blew up the Death Star was named Skywalker, he knows that young man must be his son.
Answer: Obi-Wan said they needed to be taken somewhere where the Sith could not sense their presence and then Yoda said they needed to be separated, which one could assume was to increase the chance the Sith won't sense them. They also made it seem like Padme was still pregnant when she died, meaning everyone would think her child (ren) died before being born. Leia being in the public eye wasn't really a factor or concern. Bail and his wife had always talked about adopting a girl, so when they took Leia, no-one would question where she came from, especially if the Organas appeared loyal to the Emperor. In "There is Another" (from "From a Certain Point of View", considered canon), it's suggested Yoda's plan was to train Leia and not Luke. So sending Luke to live with his family would hopefully limit his development of the force, limit his involvement with the Empire, and if discovered, draw attention away from Leia.

Question: How could Ames have received the death penalty if he didn't actually kill Clyde's wife and daughter?
Answer: They made a deal with Darby. Darby testified saying Ames was the one who killed the wife and daughter in order to get a reduced sentence. Since Shelton's testimony was inadmissible because he blacked out it was Darby's word again Ames'.
Answer: He was a participant in a felony during which someone died. That means the felony murder rule applies. Felony murder is a capital crime.

The Mummy (1999)
Question: In the scenes where Rick lights a match to use on a stick of dynamite, he does so by striking the match against either his own ear or the ear of Ardeth Bay. Is there an explanation to how he does this?
Answer: He's lighting the match on his beard-stubble by raking it down his face. He's not striking the matches on his ear. It's not practical at all (and in fact, it's basically impossible unless you have beard-stubble like sandpaper), but it's just a cute way for the movie to show how much of a bad-a** he is. In reality behind the scenes, they actually had a strip of matchbox taped to the actor's faces that they were striking the matches on to light them. But with the right camera placement, it looks like they're lighting them on their faces.
Answer: Matches in those days were friction matches, with added red phosphorous so you could light them on basically any surface, as long as you generated enough heat. Some prefer the bottom of their boots, or a wall, but others light them on their own body, or someone else's.
Bare skin does not provide the necessary friction to light a match. It's possible to light one using one's fingernail by flicking it hard against the match head, but not with skin. There has to be a hard textured surface to create a spark.
Rough stubble?
Those matches are known as 'strike anywhere matches', because of the phosphorous coating on the matchhead they can be used on any suitably frictional surface. That's why Rick used Ardeth's stubble beard to strike the matchhead against.
Answer: I don't think he was rubbing the match on bare skin, more likely the edge of where the beard grows. The rough hairs would make the area of skin able to produce enough friction to light the match as long as it was rubbed fast enough.

I saw an animated movie in the 90's (maybe an 80's movie, Secret of NIMH style) where I only really vaguely remember the beginning scene (I think). *At night, possibly raining* Two characters in a small room when a knock at the door comes, the older of the two knew it was threatening so hides the younger behind a cupboard door, then a struggle between the older and intruder ensues (Holding a knife I believe), the light swings about and young'n witnesses this. Any ideas?
Answer: That is Disney's The Great Mouse Detective from 1986.

There was a movie that took place in a high school and it was a comedy. One scene in the film had a female student getting even with a snobby female student. She does this during biology class by taking what looks like sushi and tricks the snob into thinking she's eating a frog's intestines. The snob then runs out of the class and tries to make it to the restroom to vomit, but instead ends up throwing up on the principal.
Answer: I believe this was Rock N Roll High School Forever, starring Corey Feldman, from 1991.

There is a movie that I saw a couple years ago, it was about this troubled teenage girl who had curly bleach blonde hair - she dressed like a guy in school but one night she goes to a club type place and removes her hat so her hair comes down, her and her guy friends break into a jewelry store, and her boyfriend calls the cops on her.
Chosen answer: This sounds like a movie called The Invisible, starring Justin Chatwin and Margarita Levieva. She has brown hair, not bleach blonde, but everything else sounds right.

I am looking for the title of a movie. I do not know around when it was made, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't foreign. I remember there being a (possibly albino?) teenager that had some sort of power; able to bend/move things with his mind, etc. I remember that he was very angry, didn't enjoy being different, possibly violent towards other teens. Anyone know what this is?

General questions
I'm looking for a TV movie, but I only remember certain parts. I think it might be a story set in the real world that parallels a fantasy world. I remember towards the end there is someone in the real world, possibly a mother, who is trying to drown someone in a bath tub. In the fantasy world, there is an evil queen who throws some sort of party and means to give all of the guests a potion that will kill them, but the potion gets switched out for a sleeping potion. I also vaguely remember a talking pearl at some point in the movie. I know it's not a lot to go on, but any ideas would be very helpful.

Question: I'm just curious, it is stated in "Cold Lazarus" that Oniell's son's name is Charlie, did he name his son after his friend Major Charles Kawalsky?
Answer: No. In the first or second episode of the series Kawalsky says he worked with Jack all those years and never even knew he had a son.

Answer: The reason they are split is so if one is discovered they still have the other. Leia certainly lives a much more public life but she could easily be passed off as the daughter of Bail Organa since she takes his last name and lives as his daughter. The real question is why on earth would Obi Wan give Luke to family that Vader is aware of and let him keep the Skywalker name?

Adding to this, Tatooine wouldn't be somewhere where Vader would want to go. He doesn't have fond memories there e.g. death of his mother, slaying all those Tuscan raiders.
Also, if I remember correctly, no-one knew she was having twins. Everyone knew she was pregnant, so when Luke showed up it wasn't necessarily questioned. Leia was given to another family so no-one would put it together that she was also Vader's child and therefore hiding her from existence.
