Top Gun (1986)

Corrected entry: The helicopter on an aircraft carrier is usually one of the first aircraft airborne during flight ops. The helicopter should have been airborne already when they call to launch the rescue helicopter when Hollywood was shot down.

Ken Hogan

Correction: Sort of - a helicopter will be airborne for launch and recovery...usually. It is permissible to have an alert helo and either manned RHIB or plane guard surface unit for SAR coverage. Furthermore, once the launch and recovery cycle is complete, prior to the next launch (approximately 1.5 hours), helos will often land to get gas, swap crews, or swap actual aircraft.

Top Gun (1986)

Corrected entry: I don't remember there ever being an Alert 5 aircraft during normal flight operations, like Maverick was at the end of the movie. He should have been up in the air already. The Alert aircraft were normally set up before normal flight operations started in the morning.

Ken Hogan

Correction: I'm a former Air Boss. This situation actually does happen.

Corrected entry: When Jack gets on the plane with the Flying Elvis', it's obviously a last minute thing. How does the announcer know what his name is when they're jumping and being announced at Bally's as they're landing?

Ken Hogan

Correction: The flight lasted for at least an hour. That was plenty of time for them to call ahead and give them Jack's name.

Vegas Vacation (1997)

Corrected entry: At the end, all 4 of the cars that Rusty won were in the parking lot of a pink motel by the chapel where Clark and Ellen renewed their vows. How did Rusty know to have all 4 cars delivered there instead of to the Mirage or back to Chicago?

Ken Hogan

Correction: The whole reason for going on vacation was for Ellen and Clark to renew their vows. Rusty would have known where the chapel was, seeing as he and Audrey were witnesses to the wedding. Since he was using fake ID the whole time he was gambling, he probably ha the cars sent to the nearest motel to the chapel so as not to draw attention from security at the Mirage.

Vegas Vacation (1997)

Corrected entry: When Clark and Ellen go to join the Mile High Club on the airplane, you can see a foot of someone walking behind the curtain by the lavatories when Clark is trying to find which one Ellen is in.

Ken Hogan

Correction: How is that a mistake? Flight attendants are continually moving about the plane. Passengers occasionally have to use the facilities, etc. Seeing someone's foot walking behind a curtain would not be unusual.

Vegas Vacation (1997)

Corrected entry: When the family leaves for Vegas, it's daylight out (you can see daylight from the windows on the plane). When they're picked up by the limo in Vegas & they're driving down the strip, it's dark. Seeing that they're from Chicago & Vegas is 2 hours behind, it should still be daylight out when they're picked up at the airport.

Ken Hogan

Correction: I live in Chicago and have flown to Vegas a few times. It is a three and a half hour flight. It is quite possible for it to be daylight when you leave and night time when you arrive, even with a two hour time difference. (This is the equivalent of getting dark in an hour and a half.)

Top Gun (1986)

Corrected entry: At the end of the movie, how did the flight deck crew know to cheer about what happened in the air? There would be no way for the news to spread THAT quickly for them to cheer & surround the F-14's to congratulate them when they first land back on the carrier.

Ken Hogan

Correction: There is plenty of time for the crew to be informed of the news via headphones that the crew wore, PA system or just word of mouth.
