Continuity mistake: After Jack and Nancy leave the Allison boat and are returning to shore, just as they are watching their stolen car being towed from the shore, there is a shot in front of them and Nancy is snuggled up close to Jack, slightly behind him. Then in a wider shot from behind them, Jack is a couple of feet off from Nancy, slightly behind her.

Question: When Gimli, Legolas, and Aragorn are leaving the troops to go summon that ghost army in the mountain, all of the troops and even Eowyn think he is abandoning them. Why does he not explain where he is going? If he would have told them that he was going to summon a great army to help it would have done a lot for their morale. What does the book say about this?

Audio problem: When Luke and Vader are fighting in the carbon freezing room, at one point Luke forces Vader off the side, looks around, then jump down himself to look for Vader. Listen to the sound that is supposed to be the sound of Luke's feet hitting the ground; you can see Luke stand back up after jumping over the side in the bottom left corner of the screen, but Luke is almost full stood back up when we hear the sound of his feet hitting the ground.

Question: At the beginning, when Frodo and Sam capture Gollum, when they have the rope around his neck, Gollum screams "It burns us! It freezes!" What does he mean by that? Is the rope just annoying him, or is it actually causing him some sort of pain? I mean, it can't be choking him because the rope isn't tight around his neck. What does the book say about this?

Question: When Frodo first finds the ring on the floor of Bilbo's house, Gandalf makes Frodo put the ring in an envelope and then seals it. Why does Gandalf do this? Was it to protect Frodo from having to physically touch the ring? If so, why didn't Frodo just carry the ring in an envelope in all three movies?

Question: At the end of ROTK, when Frodo is at his desk writing in the book and Sam walks up, and says "You've finished it?" and Frodo looks at Sam knowingly, and says "there's room for a little more..." Is this a hint from the director that there is going to be more related films of some sort to these Lord of the Rings movies?

Question: When the fellowship meets Haldir in the woods of Lothlorien, the scenes are radically different between the standard and extended editions of the movie. In the standard version, Gimli says "These woods are perilous, we must go back", and Haldir says "you cannot go back, come, she is waiting". On the extended edition, Aragorn has to practically argue and plead with Haldir to let them go forward. Why such a difference? I understand that this is a "extended" scene on the extended version of the movie, but the fact that Haldir makes them go forward on the first DVD, and Haldir saying they can't go forward on the extended version seems to contradict one another.

Continuity mistake: After the great battle in Pelennor fields when Pippin finds Merry under the Orc, Merry says, "I knew you'd find me," and you can see that Pippin has his hand under Merry's neck/head propping it up. Then, the shot pulls back to show both hobbits, and Merry says, "Are you going to leave me?" and now Pippin no longer has his hand under Merry's neck; he is sort of stroking his hair. (02:17:45)
