General questions

When I was a little kid in Ukraine, late 80's, I saw a movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger in which he was a detective or a police officer. Anyway, the only scene I remember was at the very end when he was executed at a kindergarten playground, or just a back alley. In the movie there was also kids, but this wasn't Kindergarten cop, because he doesn't die at the end of it. Does anyone know this movie? Or at least any movie where Schwarzenegger is killed at the end, excluding Terminator.

Kirill Ostapenko

Chosen answer: The only movie that Arnie dies in (except the Terminator movies) is End of Days, but he died in a church, protecting the heroine. It must be another actor.

I, Robot (2004)

Question: The rich guy was found dead. I don't quite understand his involvement, did he order the attack on Spooner? And I also don't get his wound around the neck, for a second I thought he was a robot, since it was a little odd and there was no blood.

Kirill Ostapenko

Chosen answer: Just like the earlier murder, this one was also caused by VIKI and the NS-5s under her control (they also attacked Spooner). He tried to protect the company and its profits by preventing any information about potentially unreliable robots from dissemination, not knowing the depth of the problem. VIKI killed him when she no longer needed his protection. The wound on his neck was from his throat being crushed by an NS-5, hence the fingerprints.

Collateral (2004)

Question: I noticed from the previews that this movie looks very different. What is it? Is it a digital camera that has been used? Or no lighting effects used? The movie really has a "behind the scene" feel.

Kirill Ostapenko

Chosen answer: It was shot with a digital camera. IMDB is a great place to answer questions like this. Go to *Technical Specifications* in the *Other Info* section of the menu on the left hand side of the screen. In an interview in American Cinematographer, Michael Mann said that as far as he was aware, this was one of the first movies to attempt to make a "look" out of digital video rather than trying to make Digital Video look like film. This approach meant the movie could be shot in the low-light scenes of urban desolation Mann wanted - because Digital reacts much better to low light than film. The approximately 20% of the picture that was shot on film was mostly, according to Mann, the portion set in the "Fever" nightclub - because this is the scene with the brightest lighting states, a condition in which Digital Video does not perform as well.

Spider-Man 2 (2004)

Question: Is the doctor Spider-man visits the Lizard Man?

Kirill Ostapenko

Chosen answer: The Lizard (not Lizard Man) is Dr. Curt Connors, Peter's professor, or at least, he will be. Dr. Connors, if you remember, has no right arm; he becomes the Lizard (in the comics, anyway) trying to use reptile DNA (or something similar) to replicate reptiles' regenerative powers (since some reptiles, like skinks, can regrow their tails).

Spider-Man 2 (2004)

Question: When Doc Ock is in the operating room, he has a blindfold on. And his reaction when he takes it off appears that he went blind from the implosion. And we also see what he sees from the 4 arms. Its also shown that he is disoriented until the arms point to a direction. like when he flips the taxi, he doesn't seem to see it until the arms see it. So, did he become temporally blind? Or what exactly was it, because at first it did seem that he was blind and was relying on the arms for vision.

Kirill Ostapenko

Chosen answer: In the operating room Otto is unconscious and the arms are operating by themselves. He looks disorientated because he's just come out of the anasthetic, he has giant metal tentacles attatched to his body and everyone else is dead. When he flips the taxi, the tenticles are acting as extra eyes (sort of like Peter's spider-sense) which allow him to see in five directions at once, he looks with his human eyes to double check what the tenticle is showing him.

Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004)

Question: What was that phone number that they listed of that guy that lied about having an 800 number?

Kirill Ostapenko

Chosen answer: (202) 225-2536. It's not that major a revelation in the film, as his number's publicly available on a variety of sites.

Continuity mistake: During the end, when the Bride is talking to Bill, as the camera changes, the position of the Tequila bottle cork changes from lying on its top to its side.

Question: What exactly is a Ghost, and in the last line of the movie, what has occurred? Have the two merged into one and become a new entity?

Kirill Ostapenko

Chosen answer: The Ghost is your spirit. In the end yes, they both merge, making a new entity, not just a human/cyborg and an AI, but a complete new entity - the whole is more than the sum of the parts.

Question: Someone made this trivia contribution: "At the end of the movie where the Oracle is talking to the Architect, there is a plaque on the bench she is sitting on which says 'In memory of Thomas A. Anderson.'" Where did this come from? At no point in the movie is there a clear shot of the plaque to make out its words, and in no behind the scene specials does anyone mention that last scene.

Kirill Ostapenko

Chosen answer: Its in the special features on the DVD for Matrix RELOADED (not Revolutions, even though that's where the bench features). One of the people interviewed is sitting on it and the plaque can be read.

Predator 2 (1990)

Question: At the end, what does the date and the name on the gun mean? Any significance? Other then that they have been hunting before, I wanna know who that person is, the name on the gun.

Kirill Ostapenko

Chosen answer: The person was a pirate who the same predator fought along time ago. The antique gun is proof that the Predators have been visiting earth for a long time.

XIII

Question: Through what method does Neo have a connection to the machine world?

Kirill Ostapenko

Chosen answer: The Architect says it is because he took the second door (to rescue Trinity) that no one else ever has before. This somehow (not explained in detail) gave him a connection to the machines.
