Friday Night Lights

Factual error: One sweep through the town shows a Dodge Durango in a parking lot. The movie takes place in 1988; the first Dodge Durango was the 1998 model, ten years later. (00:34:15)

Factual error: In one of the shots of the championship game, a player is seen wearing a shirt with an Under Armour logo on it. Under Armour came into existence in 1996, well after the 1988 championship game in question.

Continuity mistake: The sign says it is 3rd down with 10 yards to go. Announcer says the play went for 6 yards, but the sign now reads 4th down and 8 yards to go instead of 4 yards to go. (01:33:40)

Boobie Miles: I get straight A's. I'm a athlete.
Reporter: In what subject?
Boobie Miles: Hey, there's only one subject. It's football.

Coach Gary Gaines: Everything all right?
John Aubrey: Everything's going to be just fine. Everything's all right as long as we win state.
Coach Gary Gaines: Or what?

Boobie Miles: Y'all wanna win? Put Boobie in.

Question: I don't know anything about football and the college drafting process, but isn't odd that the QB from the Odessa Panthers did not receive some kind of college scholarship? After all, he was theoretically the 2nd best QB in the state, as his team made it to the State playoff game, even if they ended up losing.

Chosen answer: In the movie he was being recruited by the fake school, I forget the name something Kansas. And at the end it said that he played football for Baylor, so I think he did get a scholarship. But in many cases just because a player is on a good team does not mean he has what it takes to play at the next level, there is a big difference between high school and college. For instance you could be the starting QB on a State Championship team, but the team is mainly a running team, and almost never passes, or you are a running QB who almost never throws the ball, you might be really successful in High School, but not have any of the skills to play QB college.

Question: When Boobie hurts his knee after going back in when Comer can't find his helmet, wasn't Comer the third string running back? Why couldn't they have kept Boobie's backup in there? On top of that, there was only a minute and some seconds left in the game and Permian was up 42-7. Couldn't they have just taken a knee instead of trying to run another play? The game was out of reach, and there was no need to run another play.
