Other mistake: In the last battle scene, the same death is shown twice. Just before 1h32, a Magisterial guard slumps towards the left foreground, his daemon bursting into dust from the right; and two minutes later just before 1h34 the same piece of footage is shown again.
The Golden Compass (2007)
1 other mistake
Directed by: Chris Weitz
Starring: Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Dakota Blue Richards, Ben Walker
Continuity mistake: In the last battle scene, Serafina kills one soldier by flying down from the sky and kicking him. In one of the shots, a body of a dead witch is a few meters behind this soldier. In the next shot, the body disappears, only to appear again a minute later in another scene with Serafina at the same place.
Marisa Coulter: Come with me, Lyra.
Lyra Belacqua: I'm not yours! I'll never be yours.
Trivia: During the scene where Lyra and Mrs. Coulter are in the zeppelin and we see shots over the city, The Swiss Re building, more commonly known as the Gherkin, can be seen. It is in the mid ground to the far right of the screen during one of the first shots of the city.

Answer: The first film made too small a profit and failed to resonate with its targeted youth audience. The global financial crisis of 2007-08 was also a factor in deciding to cancel the sequels, and New Line Cinema, the company that produced "The Golden Compass", instead put its resources into the ongoing "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy.
