Revealing mistake: When Daniel and Kumiko first see the storm coming near the end of the film, the wind outside is blowing the trees sideways. They open the door to run out and the camera shows what is outside. The trees there are not moving.

Revealing mistake: In the fighting scene when Chozen has Daniel choking on the spear, before Myagi appears, the first person was standing on the deck to the left and throwing plants through the hut, but then Myagi comes and all of a sudden, he comes at him from the right. Somehow he made it from the left of Myagi to the right of him without anyone seeing him.
Suggested correction: Chozen wasn't such a dirty cheater. He wanted to earn slightly more than he should. No mistake at all.
Sato owned the village and the land, and leased it to the villagers. As the villagers grow crops and harvest them to sell, they might pay a fee to Sato based on how much they produce. Sato isn't likely buying all of that food from the people. That's the only way the weight scene makes sense.
The villagers were getting paid directly during that scene, which means the original poster is correct. The weights would have to be heavier than normal for the villagers to be upset and rush Chosen.
How would he earn more by paying out more? That makes no sense...it's a mistake. He paid out more by using fake, lighter weights, and after Daniel points it out, you can even hear a village say "You cheat people."
Chozen is selling vegetables to the villagers, as evidenced by the large wad of cash in his hands. So if each weight is marked 1/2 pound, but in actuality is 1/4 pound, a true pound of vegetables would read as two pounds therefore he was cheating them.
Chozen is not selling, he's buying, evidence by the fact he gives money from his wad of cash to another villager. And the old man with the carrots is having his goods weighed so that Chozen can buy them. But the mistake is valid for the information we're given. There's no way he'd be able to cheat the villagers at all or earn just a little more than he should.
Bishop73Chozen is purchasing the food not selling it. It is a simple movie mistake there is no question. The food is being weighed directly against the weights. In this scenario having lighter weights would never favor the buyer. I think the goof was the writer of the script might've had a more modern scale in mind. In that case if the food is placed on the scale having lighter "0" weight would favor the buyer (Pay by the pound and the scale saying your pound of food was only 1/2 lb - so you would need to put twice the food on the scale to receive normal pound of food payment). But in an old school scale like shown in the movie the weights are directly weighed against the food. So lighter weight would cause Chozen to overpay each time. It IS possible that because Sato owns the land he charges a fee to the farmers so this would make sense, however, to me that is a stretch for the viewer to have to figure out! In my opinion it is much more likely a simply goof in the movie.
