Continuity mistake: Whilst discussing how to split the money, after Finch says "Please don't argue anymore, you're hurting everybody's feelings", Benjy says "Look" and raises his hands upwards. In the next shot, he is suddenly pointing with a finger on his right hand, something he was not doing in the previous shot. (00:30:23)
Continuity mistake: When Culpeper's hat gets run over, the hat is shown landing upside down, but in the next shot, when the man in the car is shown driving away, in the background we can see that the hat is now right side up. The hat is also positioned to the right of the road markings when it lands, but when the shots cut, it is now left of the road markings. (00:24:30)
Continuity mistake: Just after Pike gets out of his truck, he begins to walk along the small path to the side of the road. In the first shot, he is standing directly in the sunlight, but in the next shot, he is suddenly standing in the shadows. (00:21:27)
Continuity mistake: When the police officer approaches the dead body, just after Melville asks "Are you a police officer" and the officer crouches down, the positions of Melville, Ding and Benjy change when the shot cuts to a closer shot of the officer and the body. (00:12:55)
Continuity mistake: When Smiler succumbs to his injuries and dies, he kicks a bucket down the hill with his left foot. In the close-up shot, his foot is shifted to the left, but in the next shot, his foot is suddenly pointing straight forwards. (00:11:47)
Continuity mistake: When the men are looking over Smiler, just as Smiler asks "Is he kidding", he is shown looking towards the left. When the shot cuts, he is suddenly looking to the right. Pike's hand also moves further away from him in between shots. (00:09:17)
Revealing mistake: In the opening credits, just after the credits for Director of Photography, Production Design and Art Director are shown, the globe in the centre of the frame shifts downwards and to the left by an inch when the credits for Film Editors, Assistant to the Director, Assistant to the Producer, Production Manager (and many others) appear on screen. Other mistake: One of the cab drivers who fell off the ladder is shown landing on an Abraham Lincoln statue. After landing on the statue, he is shown using his arms to push his upper body upwards. However, in the following scene, when everyone is in the hospital, the same cab driver can be seen with casts around his arms indicating they have been broken from the impact. He would not have been able to push his body up after landing on the statue if his arms were broken. (02:36:38 - 02:39:44)
Continuity mistake: Whilst Culpeper is being chased by the two taxicabs, there is a shot from inside Culpeper's car looking out of the front windshield. In the shot, a "One Way" sign can be seen in the middle of the road whilst the car turns around the corner. It then cuts to a wide shot where the sign has suddenly disappeared. (02:28:13)
Continuity mistake: When Culpeper is shown driving down the road, and is about to turn back onto the main road after leaving the park, the two taxicabs filled with the other 13 people who went after the money can be seen to the far right of shot. A couple of people can be seen standing behind the taxicab in front. But a couple of shots later, when the people in the taxicabs get out, those people shown standing by it are nowhere in sight. Continuity mistake: Just after the briefcase with the money has been dug up, whilst Benjy is saying "Everybody's gonna get something, so no arguments cause we all get an equal share", Meyer is shown holding onto the briefcase with both hands on each side. It then cuts to a closer shot of Meyer, where his left hand is now shown touching the money. (02:16:10)
Continuity mistake: When Culpeper and Emmeline approach the others whilst they are digging up the money, Finch is shown saying "Faster, faster, dig, dig" whilst holding onto a shovel. His left hand is shown holding onto the socket section of the shovel at first, but when the camera cuts to a closer angle of him, his left hand is now shown holding the blade of the shovel. Visible crew/equipment: Whilst Culpeper is walking across the park, a couple of seconds before Meyer is shown hiding behind the bushes, the camera passes in front of a tree and the shadow of the cameraman can be seen cast on the tree trunk when it passes. (02:07:50)
Continuity mistake: Just as Culpeper is about to turn around the road leading up to the park, Meyer appears and drives up the same road. When Meyer begins driving up the road, Culpeper's black car can be seen at the bottom of the road. A shot focusing on Meyer driving up the road is then shown, but Culpeper's car cannot be seen in the background shown outside the back window. (02:04:00)
Continuity mistake: When Ding and Benjy are landing the plane, in the shot of Ding saying "Benjy, here comes a restaurant", the view outside the plane is slanted, revealing that the plane is at a tilted angle. When the plane is shown crashing into the restaurant in the next shot, it is perfectly level with the ground. (01:58:57)
Continuity mistake: Whilst Ding and Benjy are trying to land the plane, the man in the control tower falls over the edge of the tower and is shown tangled up in a microphone wire, hanging below the tower. In the first wide shot, the microphone he was using is shown dangling below him. Then in the following shot much closer to him, the microphone is suddenly in his hand. (01:58:10)
Revealing mistake: When Sylvester's car and Finch and Hawthorne's rental car drive off the road and crash, in the shot of the two cars crashing, Sylvester has been replaced with a stunt double. (01:52:58)
Revealing mistake: Whilst Sylvester is driving, there is a shot of Finch and Hawthorne driving past, followed by Sylvester shouting "Hey, Russell! Russell", then turning around to follow them. In the shot, we can see that a stuntman is shown driving the car and not the same actor. (01:50:35)
Visible crew/equipment: When Meyer drives his car into the river, the shadow of the camera can be seen on the side of his car. (01:31:09)
Revealing mistake: When Finch pokes Hawthorne in the eyes with his fingers during their fight, Finch's fingers miss Hawthorne's eyes and instead touch the corner of his face. (01:25:43)
