Other mistake: During the scene with Pyramid Head removing the bar blocking the door to the room where Rose and Cybil are, the flashlight's light is being pointed at the door the entire scene. However, Cybil is only seen pointing it at the door at the beginning of the scene, and then at the end when she realizes Pyramid Head is destroying the barricade. Throughout the entire middle of the scene, Cybil is not pointing the flashlight at the door as it would seem, rather she has her body, and hands, pinned to the back wall with the flashlight pointing downwards.

Silent Hill (2006)
1 other mistake - chronological order
Directed by: Christophe Gans
Starring: Sean Bean, Radha Mitchell, Deborah Kara Unger, Laurie Holden
Continuity mistake: When Chris pulls up at the bridge barricade, he gets out and his collar is down. In the very next shot his Burberry collar is sticking right up.
Dark Alessa: Now is the End of Days, and I am the Reaper.
Trivia: Director Christophe Gans wanted to use the original soundtrack recordings of Akira Yamaoka's scores from the various "Silent Hill" video games in the film. However, due to a legality issue necessitating the hiring of a Canadian composer for the film, Jeff Danna was selected to serve as the lead credited composer. However, it was later confirmed that he actually composed very little original music for the film, and instead mainly focused on created re-mixes and new recordings of the themes from the video-games, so that he and director Gans could preserve Akira Yamaoka's music and style as much as possible.

Answer: It is a reference to the red pointed hoods the executioners of Silent Hill wore in colonial times. This is also why the helmet is a pyramid in the game. Since he is never officially named in the game, only referred to by the characters as "Pyramid-Head," the filmmakers were free to come up with their own reference for him. "Red Pyramid" sounds more dramatic than "Pyramid-Head" and it ties the creatures' reason for being into the name.
