American Psycho

Revealing mistake: Throughout the whole movie in the scenes at the office, if you look out the window you can easily tell that the city view is a backdrop. The perspective is all screwed up. (00:08:50)

Suggested correction: The overwhelming suggestion at the end of the movie is that the whole episode has taken place in the head of a solipsistic, self-regarding yuppie: Patrick Bateman (though none the less entertaining for that). 'Mistakes' such as this one simply illustrate the unreality of the situation.

As far as I know, there is no official confirmation that the effect is intended to be artificial. They were shooting in Canada for the most part, and it could be simply a bad effect, or it could be both. I wouldn't explain it away predicating it on the assumption that it is deliberate.

Revealing mistake: When Patrick brings Sabrina into his apartment for a threesome with Christie, as the camera passes the open door to the bathroom, you can see Christie stood still by the door, waiting for her cue to walk in. (00:40:23)

Revealing mistake: When Patrick orders Christie to take off the robe, you can see the actress is wearing panties. She comes directly from the bathroom where she was bathing, and Bateman only told her to put on the robe. For her on the bed, there's just a little babydoll to put on, and Patrick directly references her showing her hole to the other hooker. So, panties really don't seem to have been part of the equation at any point. (00:42:45)

Revealing mistake: When Patrick opens his fridge to offer Jean some sorbet, you can see the decapitated head of a woman in the fridge. If you pay close attention, you can see the head is moving a little. (00:59:36)

Suggested correction: It's a prop head resting on a freezer shelf. It could simply be that opening the freezer door causes the head to sway a little, similar to if you had an egg, lemon, or something else that didn't have a flat bottom resting on a shelf inside a fridge.

No, the way it was filmed was with the actual actress putting her head up through a hole in shelf. It's her head moving.

Revealing mistake: As it often happens, much of this NY-set movie was filmed in Canada. Patrick Bateman's office building is actually part of the Toronto-Dominion Centre. A funny nod to this gimmick occurs after Patrick kills the janitor and has to sprint between building towers. While he runs in the long shot, a Canadian flag can be seen waving in the wind on the left side. (01:21:10)

Visible crew/equipment: In the opening scene, the camera and camera man can be seen reflected in the knife. (00:01:20)

Patrick Bateman: I have all the characteristics of a human being: blood, flesh, skin, hair; but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for greed and disgust. Something horrible is happening inside of me and I don't know why. My nightly bloodlust has overflown into my days. I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip.

Trivia: The infamous scene where Patrick Bateman kills Paul Allen while discussing Huey Lewis and the News was recreated by Huey Lewis himself in the role of Bateman, with "Weird Al" Yankovic being his victim as revenge for parodying his song "I Want a New Drug."

Question: When Patrick talks to Carnes, he confesses that he murdered Paul Owen. Why doesn't Carnes believe him, and how could Carnes have had dinner with Paul?

Answer: There are two possible answers. First, Carnes doesn't recognize Christian Bale as Bateman, instead thinking he is someone named Davis. He insults Bateman and thinks "Davis" left the message as a joke. Realize also that someone claims to have seen Owen/Allen in London, but mistook Herbert Ainsworth for him. Second, Bateman is delusional and only thinks he killed Owen/Allen, who is in fact alive and in London.
