Character mistake: Patrick, being the music buff that he is, mistakenly claims that Huey Lewis' Fore! came out in 1987, when it was actually released in 1986.

American Psycho (2000)
1 character mistake - chronological order
Directed by: Mary Harron
Starring: Chloƫ Sevigny, Christian Bale, Jared Leto, Reese Witherspoon, Samantha Mathis, Willem Dafoe
Visible crew/equipment: In the opening scene, the camera and camera man can be seen reflected in the knife.
Patrick Bateman: I have all the characteristics of a human being: blood, flesh, skin, hair; but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for greed and disgust. Something horrible is happening inside of me and I don't know why. My nightly bloodlust has overflown into my days. I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip.
Trivia: Leonardo DiCaprio was originally tapped to play the role of Patrick Bateman, however his agents felt that the role was to twisted and may hurt his image with his younger fans. He ended up passing on the role.
Question: When Patrick talks to Carnes, he confesses that he murdered Paul Owen. Why doesn't Carnes believe him, and how could Carnes have had dinner with Paul?

Answer: There are two possible answers. First, Carnes doesn't recognize Christian Bale as Bateman, instead thinking he is someone named Davis. He insults Bateman and thinks "Davis" left the message as a joke. Realize also that someone claims to have seen Owen/Allen in London, but mistook Herbert Ainsworth for him. Second, Bateman is delusional and only thinks he killed Owen/Allen, who is in fact alive and in London.
